It's a fine stand - but the old guys I used to work with ALWAYS fluted the ends of the tubes - or else they had to wrap them with something and keep wrapping them. The bare cut ends will cut away at your hammer handles everytime you slot one....

slick deal for holding the hammers. I was thinking the same thing as etek, make sure the tubes are deburred.

nice work!

Did you see that in Hot Rod Deluxe, or Home Shop Machinist?

Yes I got the idea from HRD and just used what I had laying around. I deburred the tube and I'm planning on slicing some rubber vacuum line to put over the edge or something similar.

That's cool... that's the first time I've ever seen someone actually copy one of the projects I've done for a magazine!

It makes a handy portable welding table, too.

Here's what I did on mine:
Took a piece of heavy-wall scrap tubing and beveled a 45-degree angle onto it, then used it in my shop press to bell-mouth the ends.

First time you've witnessed it - likely not the first time it's been copied!! I saw your article in print and loved it!

Thanks!

The thing is every bit as handy as I'd hoped.

I used it a bunch before I even could get it painted :) I am excited about clearing out a couple of drawers in my tool box full of hammers.

That's one of the reasons I made mine, too! It's amazing how much space hammers take up.

nice work boys, I read that story Brad54, good read- it's partially what inspired me to do my hammer rack, I'm pretty short on space (intend to move my whole workshop into a 20ft sea container in the future). So i just welded a piece of scrap flat bar form th rubbish tip to the side of my welding bench and oxy'd out the holes- yes it's pretty rough but it does the job- i'm been using it for 6months or so and have't had any damage to the hammers yet which is good and it does save alot of space. cheers tyler

You get Hot Rod Deluxe that far away?! Damn.

I really like your idea with holders on the end of a welding table! I'm going to incorporate something like that when I finally get around to building my welding table. THANKS!
