Ryan, have you used the 3 sided "nut Grip" VG's (LW4 & LW10?) before? if not you will like them - they can do things no other tool can at times!

Nice score!

Some beauties there guys.

Nice 16 incher 3jakes.

Ryan, what brand is the blue colored adjustable?

Neat finds Outlaw, right up your alley. Looks like a Coleman day.

The fuel is greenish like you said, and smells the part.

I got a couple of lots at a local auction of random tools
These are the best of them that I kept for me.
The Crescent Tools box has what might be a complete set of Craftsman ignition wrenches.
The helix adjustable wrench was probably a give away from a seed company.
The Chevrolet pencil is pretty neat, not sure of the age.
The drill gage should clean up nicely, just a little surface rust.

Some different places I found some stuff.
IMG_0930.jpegThis was a $20 score from my favorite second hand store. The red Kennedy box is cool, needs some body work and paint.
IMG_0931.jpeg
IMG_0932.jpeg
IMG_0933.jpeg
Some screwdrivers.
IMG_0954.jpeg
Hit a few garage sales while waiting for the store to open, first one had none of the advertised stuff, but did get a nice metal square and a good hand saw and a partial set of Wilson “SamSnead” golf clubs.
IMG_0949.jpeg
IMG_0950.jpegIMG_0952.jpegIMG_0956.jpeg
IMG_0955.jpeg
The next sale was more fruitful, as you can see in the pic I got a decently nice 1/2 air impact for $2, got another coping saw like my powr kraft one, some misc. hardware in organizers and nice glasses.IMG_0932.jpeg

With War Finish items brought up here often I thought I'd post its War Finish embossing that i hadn't seen before
Nice find. Brings back memories. All our dad's machines were surplus WF.
Yale padlock for the Ord Dept.-
Nice find.
Hallowell No. 25 Socket Screw Key. Gerald has a similar one on Progress is Fine.
Lugz has a similar one on GJ! :) Standard Pressed Steel (same mfgr of "Unbrako" brand hex keys) made them. We have a thread. Listed as Hallowell in the Index. My kit - see post #6 - is not nearly in as good condition. Nice find.
...I believe unused Desert water bag.
Very nice. I have a few canvas water bags, but none of them with markings that vivid! It almost looks repro it's so nice.
The Crescent Tools box
Nice find. I'm jealous. They're not exceedingly rare, and there are a few others floating around GJ on the VB. I've just never run into one yet. I love that decal.

I have not, I figured they could be very handy for removing broken bolts & studs.

The green colored handle adj. wrench is a Thorsen, all of the adj. wrenches were taped together so it was hard to see exactly what brand all of them were. I originally thought it was a Diamond Tool brand

Two days worth of finds. On Friday, I had to go down to the town south of me, so I figured I would swing by whatever sales I could find, followed up by the Restore. The sale (singular) was a bust, but as I was checking out the tool aisle at the Restore, I noticed that the gentleman next too me had an interesting ratchet in his hand. Well, I proceeded to inquire about it, and to even offer to purchase it from him. But to no avail, as he knew exactly what a Blackhawk freewheeling ratchet was! I seems I had just been beat out by another tool collector, and since I told him I don't live in that town, we both proceeded to swap stories of finds. It was actually quite nice to talk to another tool **** in person. But, while I was talking to him, I spotted a Kennedy mid-box and managed to snag it before he had noticed it. Day saved!

Today, I hit four sales, with the first, third (a TOO) and fourth worthwhile. The second, which I had been looking forward to, as they showed several 5-drawer Kennedy parts boxes in the ad, was a bust. The Kennedy's were priced higher than I was willing to go considering the condition. And, even though it was a country barn sale, there was nothing else of interest. But, even though it was way in the heck out there, I did manage to find that TOO, which was nice. Anyway, here is the score:
52820640513_3cd317a64e_c.jpg
Obviously, the Kennedy was from Friday, but the Snap-on #0, woodie pin vise, vintage puller, drill bit packages (half-full) were from the first stop today, along with an unopened flask of Kroil in the free pile. The TOO had, amongst all the junk, a perfect handle, Armstrong DP hold-down, milling spot facer, and 23rd edition of the machinery's handbook. The final stop was the estate of a shooter, so even though it was the closest to me and started the earliest, I saved it for last, as the number of people coming to buy ammo would be huge, in my opinion. And I was right! I did manage to pickup the Proto box, solder, a very nice little brass/soft face 2oz hammer, and, in my eyes, the best find of the day, and maybe year, vintage Crosman air gun targets!

EDIT; you might notice that I placed everything on top my wife's freezer. I do this as I am now completely out of space in my shop, and need to use a flat surface that if I don't immediately clean it off I will catch hell for using it as a work surface. I am getting things unburied, but it is taking some time!

Nice finds there BMW, especially the targets, MHB, and mini brass/soft hammer (better pics?) but a free full, can of kroil? suckage!

You made a nice haul too Jeff!

I take most pics next to the kitchen sink for the great light, but similar reasoning - Got to clean it up right away...

I finally got pics as the sun was setting. Little old lady’s estate sale. For having just one carry box dumped out on a table, and a few misc. tools on shelves, there were some decent vintage tools.

I was surprised to see six brands represented in non-chrome wrenches, maybe remnants of a military kit. Wrenches are Mac, Proto LA, Plomb, Vlchek, Billings, Barcalo. Chrome S-K and Thorsen Speed-Hed.

Western Auto feeler gauge. Pliers are Thorsen, Boker, Craftsman, possibly Diamond (marked K-36). I forgot the name on the oil can. Also a singer oil can and Singer type loop screwdriver (not as cool as the drivers Jeff Moss just posted above).

Interesting Elora Germany 1/2” drive spark plug socket, Williams and Blackhawk chrome 3/8 extensions. A dark unbranded extension with a 4 digit part #, looks Duro.

Two nice Stanley wood chisels. Two long punches, a long Snap-On mini pick. Had to ask myself how a little old lady wound up with that SO. There wasn‘t much modern stuff. Road find? Stopped the Snap-On driver for a new crochet needle?

My favorite find came dead last.

I looked the shelves over from side to side a few times. Looked in every container, shuffled through everything. I was done and took one last peek in a shelf corner. In doing so, I moved that green fly swatter pictured in my initial post.

Like magic, Herbrand 4 incher! I was recently thinking how I didn’t have a 4 inch in Herbrand in my collection.

Nice finds 3bay! Yeah sometimes you can find the oddest things in the oddest places. I got a SO 1/4" ratchet found in a box of household junk, and a lonely Athol #10 2" vise on a table of a typical "drive by, don't stop" sale not a single other tool in sight - The only reason I stopped was for cardboard boxes to see what was in them (which was nothing)...

I got that same Singer oil can (same price on it too; 75c) at an estate sale a few weeks back, then the next day on clean-out day a vintage can of 3 in 1.

Several garage sales today. Walked up on the third one as a Grandma was setting up a table with grandma stuff. I told her I look for tools ... she says you've come to right place! There were several tables off to side, she peels back the blue tarp and I was blinded by the glare off all the chrome. Nice Snap-on metric wrench set, metric socket set, assortment of various sockets and other wrenches and two 1/2dr ratchets. Filled a box there. Last sale of the morning out in some town called Royesford, got the creeper and a bunch more assorted sockets and wrenches. The Craftsman stubbys and the kromedge tap set are like new, don't believe they've ever been used, picked them up Friday morning at a garage sale. A good haul this weekend, feels good!

Minor Haul while visiting PDX for work. Traveling by plane, so had to keep the pickings light. First off was a GS out in Hillsboro, probably a professional sale, the Craftsman flex head -V- 44201, and the Proto 9704 Professional screwdriver.

The next was from an antique store, with a few bins of junk. Started poking around for potential tool chest handles, and saw a few things I will try to grab next time I am up with the truck. Saw the uniquely shaped screwdriver, and grabbed it, couldn't decipher the lettering in the light. Refrigerative on one face, Seattle and ELIOT on the next, Portland and EA....77 on the next, and No. 4781. Suspect it was a gimme by Refrigerative Supply Company, but I can't find any vintage phone numbers to say what the rest of ELIOT should be. Then a Stanley Phillips bit for brace, Lic 1 with 2 patent dates.

And finally, saw the bizarre tooth pattern sticking up in another box, grabbed two Plierench jaws, but no wrench, pouch, or other jaws. Will look for more of those on my next trip as well

OK, this is a MASSIVE You ****. This stuff is very expensive, not common, and specialized. If you do mountaineering, not cheap and easy rock climbing, this is what you need. This is the good stuff!

You ****, Marty!!

chenry and his brother **** too!

Here is my paltry little score from three sales yesterday. Total outlay--$2.43.

14 Apr 23a.jpg

The biggest turnaround from disappointment to glee was with the six pack of NOS 2.5 GPM aerators. I thought they would fit my bathroom faucets but don't--but six packs are selling on ebay for $30-$40.
My old tool-cleaning wire brush has about had the schnitzel, and this is a direct replacement for $0.50.
The $0.75 wood carving mallet might be "pressed" into service as a potato masher because I hate our wire masher.
I like to use wipes after rooting around in other people's greasy/rusty tool boxes. Two-thirds full for a quarter.
"mallet" is a stomper/pusher for power meat grinder - a welcome tool when the alternative is using one's hand to shove meat down the hole.

Went to the local "pickers" store and found a Yankees lithograph and a never before seen Rheingold Scotch Ale beer tray from 1933. My grandfather worked for Rheingold brewery in Brooklyn from the late 40's - the 70's. I like to grab Rheingold items when I see them. I can't even find this one on eBay so $15 was perfect for both of those.

I also found a box of NOS Ford parts laying in the corner. The first box I opened, my eyes about popped out of my head. It was an NOS headlight switch without fog lamps for my Foxbody SSP Mustang. These go for anywhere from $75 up to $200. I dug through a little more and so that it was all Ford parts. I brought the box to the guy and he said give me $150 for the box of parts and the tray/Yankees lithograph and I happily obliged. I came home and went through the parts and there's a bunch of NOS turn signal switches, turn signal stalks, resistors under, electrical parts, window switches etc... The best part I found without looking everything up was the fuel gauge for a 1966 Ford Mustang in a tattered FoMoCo box. Luckily the gauge is mint condition. I even put 12 volts to it and it worked. I'd say it worked out well today! Can't wait to look up the rest of the parts. PXL_20230416_151104610.jpgFox body headlamp switch 💪PXL_20230416_151147082.jpg

never been entirely sure on the etiquette for awarding suckage, as whilst I follow I don’t post regularly, but… @Rickster very definitely *****…

@ctuai also *****, that’s an impressive rack for anyone climbing, but I’d be making damn sure I was happy with the fabric components before I went swinging off them - whilst the metal parts are all good, the fabric breaks down with UV and dirt exposure along with time, so only has a finite life. Hopefully if you know what that kit is, and how to use it then I‘m stating the ****** obvious!

well, I thought we were done for the weekend, but found one that didn't post to CL yesterday. They had a vintage drill press, so figured it was worth the 15 minute trip north.

Got there, lots of vintage wrenches and stuff cluttering the driveway, tap sets, etc priced reasonable. Went into the garage to see the drill press, and it was obviously vintage, they were guessing $1k sales price. After chatting with them a bit, got the light on it to realize it was a Canedy Mfg, Chicago Heights IL. Showed them vintage machinery and ITCL to help them figure out what they had. (And bonus, no arc of shame)

PXL_20230416_165323444-X2.jpgPXL_20230416_165312598-X2.jpgPXL_20230416_165326526-X2.jpg

I then poked around a bit, found a Kennedy Bighorn, painted red on the exterior, and factory green on the inside. Added a few more wrenches, nutdrives, and spiral tools, then found a few really fun items. A Whitney 20C punch, and a small heavy machinist vise. Total price out the door, including plants for the wife was very reasonable.

L-R, Kennedy Bighorn, Yankee non spring spiral screwdriver, Walden OR916 wrench, Wood handled hollow shaft unmarked nut driver, red handled hollow shaft 1/2" Indestro Super, Yankee push drill, Simanco wrench 23535, Craftsman 5/16"? 1/2" drive socket, long underline, Lowell wrench, guessing special purpose, Heavy drill press vise, Hazet 17mm crowfoot, tiny screwdriver hidden under the vise, Corona bypass lopper needing new foam handled, and a Whitney 20C punch with only the punch for 0.309" (5/16), no die. Tried to hunt for it in the off limits area, but they think they brought that in from the other house.

Got to the flea market for the first time this year, and it was totally worth it!

Lot 1: $6 for all pictured. Three tubes for bending tubing, a screwdriver handle that is also an extendable magnet and penlight, Lutz File Company of Cleveland handle (no name on the file), a pair of cheap multimeter leads, a Lufkin 10 foot tape measure, a New Britain puller, and a cool little tack hammer.

Lot 2: $5 for all pictured. Proto scraper in beautiful condition, S-K 7307 pliers, S-K 7308 pliers, Xuron Saco micro shear 170II cutters, Blue Grass awl, Proto 252 pliers for wire clamps, I think, a no-name center punch, and the 1/4" drive Kobalt T-handle.

Lot 3: $10 for cantilever toolbox and contents. Highlights are a Yankee screwdriver, Vaco screwdriver, Proto 278 pliers, Boker 5507 舠\'93channellocks舡\'94, Sears Kromedge 4舡\'94 triangular 60 degree file, two small Mayhew punches, Boker dikes, Black & Decker star drill, and a Betr-Grip adjustable wrench that is also a 12-point 5/8 wrench. The box has definitely had a couple of layers of paint on it, and it's marked in a way that makes me think it might be US military. Can't read all of it but it says BOX, TOOL, MECHANICS, SPECIFICATION 5140-288-8911, SIMONSEN METAL PRODUCTS CO, CONTRACT NO GS-005-36117 U.S.

Nice one Don!

That "thinner" can looks like one of the old GI oil cans? (Wish I bought a bunch when these were dirt cheap in surplus stores..)

Nice find on the plomb wobble 1/2 drive impacts! But the real question is- did you get the craftsman red and gray mid chest pictured in the add ? Those can be pretty spendy if sold in the right arena....

Kinda slim pickins lately, not that many estate sales and flea markets not really open yet.

Unused Craftsman Screw extractor set, bought it for the box and stand.
S-K 1/2 dr. Torque wrench part, was never used. It was at a machinists sale, he must have taken it apart. odd.

Neighbor is having a moving sale. He's the head/master plumber for the local city zoo. Most of his tools were plumbing specialized but he did have some regular hand tools. After picking through the stuff I showed him what I wanted and he said, "just give me $5, cool?"

Absolutely. I can now say I officially own my first Snap On tool(s). Granted I'll probably never use them but I'll throw them in my "Well ****... you're having a bad day" drawer.

Vintage(?) SK socket tray with two 8pt sockets and one 6pt socket. Don't think the ratchet is SK. The socket has no markings and doesn't look to be SK quality even though the handle has similar knurling. Box has some original red paint on it. I might just clean it up and use it as storage of something.

Two random USA made sockets. One only says, "11mm USA" and the other has no markings other than "USA" on it.

The Bighorn Series was the green line, run from about 1934 when first mentioned, to about 1960 or so. And the answer to people who say Kennedy never made green tool boxes.

PXL_20230416_223009686-X2.jpg

This is a three drawer, all full width, with an opening top, chest, as seen here in the 620 line (20w x 8 x 13h)

Same layout as this one I got in 2014, but not as clean inside.

never been entirely sure on the etiquette for awarding suckage, as whilst I follow I don’t post regularly, but… @Rickster very definitely *****…

Thanks for the advice. It really is nice kit, but I have vertigo like you can't believe so it's all off to flea-bay. Already made my money back on the rope alone. I'm going to keep the tent peg as the Chouinard/Black Diamond T-Stake is supposed to be the ultimate tent peg and who doesn't want to own the ultimate of anything :)

***ahem, please read my post #1 and please refrain from this type of photo in the future. This is exactly what I was referring to. I don't want to look at your crotch while trying to see what you posted. Do you really not have any other flat surface in the entire house, car, garage, etc where you could lay out the tools to photograph ?**

Estate sale ($5): Metal sanding emory cloth and sand paper; Sandvik 250 saw.

I own a similar Sandvik saw and really like its aggressive tooth pattern.
