Outdoor Storage Shed Door

Hi, my house doesn't give me a lot of outdoor space for a storage shed, and I'd like to move some bulkier things out of the garage to free some space. On the side of my garage, it's about 5' from garage to fence, and I would like to build a shallow shed 2' deep and roughly 8' long and 7-8' high. I'm set on the structure, but my only concern is the door. I can't have anything that opens outward, and a two piece sliding door restricts putting longer items into the shed. I was going to use an outdoor retractable horizontal privacy curtain that would cover the opening, but the reviews say that it's a bear when the curtain is pulled beyond 6'. Since it would live 99% of it's life extended, that's a lot of stored kinetic energy just waiting to hurt someone.

A commercial roll up door breaks my budget too. I then thought of those accordion style doors, but I can't find any outdoor or 10' wide ones. Any suggestions?

seems like you have 3 feet to swing the doors (5' - 2'). Is there some particular reason you can use 2 sets of bi-fold doors opening out? that could allow to access most of the length.

make sure you aren't in a city that has a set back rule that will affect your plans. Here, we had no setback required for sheds. Now it is 5' from the property line and 5' from the house. My shed is grandfathered in beacuse it was installed before that rule, but more and more areas are adopting it for fire code.

Use two 24" slab doors, make one a deadman.

I'd be inclined to think of creating some easily removable panels for access that aren't "doors "

Bifold doors made from shutters so they are made to be outside?

I just did something like this. Narrow space between garage and fence, limited outswing. 2' deep, 8' wide, 6' tall. I used 4 doors - 2 sets of 2. I built mine to store HD tubs on shelves, 4 total per row, 4 rows tall, with a 24" wide full height vertical section at one end.
If your requirement is storing 8' long items, then my approach might not work.

My only concerns is longer items might be harder to get in and out because the shed would never fully be open. that being said, if I can't put an item in the shed with half of it open, then it probably won't fit anyways. I'll look for an outdoor option, thanks.

re: bifolds and sliding doors. Difficult to effectively seal. Don't know where you live, but we have trees that drop crud, landscapers that blow dust, .... Unless you pay attention to the details, it will be difficult to keep out debris. Depends on what you're storing in there.

nothing sensitive, and I won't have the debris you mention. Really just want to keep UV and water off. If a little water gets it, it's fine.

Can you put the door in an end wall? That might allow you to slide the long items into the shed.

Maybe two doors, one on the end and the others on the side.

My thoughts exactly. The end door is strictly for feeding long items into the shed.

I avoid those HVAC companies that heavily advertise on TV and the News papers. I know an independent shop thatprofessionaly installs quality equipment. They don't advertise nor do they extend credit. it's either Cash or Credit Card.
