powder coating place did it. it was a legit company that does much bigger projects but i don't think they've done many auto parts. there was another place that does calipers often but my buddy used these guys before for other parts and they turned out fine so i went with them.

Lol. Well for one thing, it has too many doors. For another, no one can truthfully remember how many times its been hit in each rear corner.
Sounds parts worthy.
I agree. If any vehicle has more than 2 doors all it's good for is a parts car. 😁
There’s a few Cadillacs I would say are pretty cool, but ya, you’re generally right.

A craftsman mower deck came up for sale on FBM. Ended up giving the guy $100 for it. He was asking $150. After looking it over, it’s missing a wheel, and the bracket for it, and one of the mount bracket welds is cracked.

It does have some rare parts mine are missing. So this one will either be a parts deck for the rare pieces, and stored away until mine finally are too bad to be fixed, or I’ll weld this one up and use it as a spare. Sounds weird, but I have one deck for mulching blades, and one for hi-vac blades. I figure if I have to lift/remove the deck to switch blades, it’s easier to just switch decks. Gives me a chance to inspect and repair. Which apparently I have not been doing a good job at as both my decks are broken Lmao

I should also mention that this is a craftsman deck and mine is Ariens. Though both are Husqvarna/AYP. So the red one should fit my orange machine LMAO.

I spent some time this morning slapping together a rolling base for my new Barrister Bookcase. There is a Connecticut Transportation Department inventory tag on her so I named her Dot, or Connie Dot if she's in trouble.

IMG_0747.jpeg

She needs a good cleaning, a piece of glass and 2 pulls and then she'll be as good as new! She's a Globe Wernicke.

All my projects need to be on wheels as I'm tight on space here . . . These particular casters have been used for several projects

1 - A rolling base for a Fisher tube amp console stereo while it was being refurbished by my son
2 -#1 reworked into a rolling base for a vintage Blaupunkt “Grenada” console stereo with a tube amp in an ILSE cabinet.

Cheers

OK we finally finished painting the "TV wall", so I can post pics of the primarily speaker wire plates, finished -the main plate has both Cable TV and Cat 5 as well, as modern electronics needs internet... This one wire will go to a high speed splitter box so we can feed the Cable box, the TV itself ( a brand new Sony Bravura 65" as the 12 YO Toshiba croaked while all this was going on...) a PS 5 and a Nintendo Switch, at least... (I'm not the gamer, that's everyone else..)

Only 4 of 5 speakers needed to go in the wall as one will be beside the TV.

I put the wrong plate on the duplex, it had a fancy brass one (hence the ivory outlet), and I didn't notice the ivory receptacle until after I was done - no matter, it won't be seen:

1-mian Ent Cent Panel.jpg

The center speaker "outlet" the duplex has been there for ages, and is switched, We used to have 7 ft high book cases on the wall and this powered 4 halogen "under cabinet light pucks" for indirect lighting. It will now power an LED indirect light for next to the speaker and above the TV. an oak 26" shelf will hold the speaker and light, and the speaker will hide the hookups.

2- Center & switched outlet.jpg

There is one more in the wall on the opposite wall of the LR, (No pic, its behind the couch and I'm lazy) for the R&L rear speakers. Those will go to a speakrn switch I made, and those will be the "stereo" speakers for the small unit I already have on that wall Not "serious" listening - that will be in the family room that I'm taking over as my "office" and "workroom".

I didn't decide this -it was offered as having me work almost in the center of the house makes it harder for the family to "keep quiet" if i'm in a zoom call or concentrating on complex work.

And the whole "TV Wall" as its been christened: -I should get a "before" pic; - This used to be the "Art Gallery" we all contributed things to. That will move to a corner to the right of the door to the kitchen from the TV wall, where my current "office" is (Easy chair and lap desk for my Laptop, plus a side/end table...)

I got a used Harbor Freight 56 inch roller tool chest and I'm in the process of inching through my garage, through the wood shop and past the stairway into my metal shop space. I don't have either shop space organized very well yet, but I needed to get the new to me tool chest inside close to where it will end up. Took awhile but it is in the right room now, and next step is to move the lathe and other bench that are in the way so I can get it in it's final spot.

Couldn't figure out which accessory was screaching on my 331 fox body LTD.
Stethoscope indicated it was the idler pulley. Replaced that, still same noise.
Next did the AC compressor bearing, as it appeared to be right in that area
(either idler or compressor).

Vid below is after idler and compr bearing.

Back in the day, there was 2 or 3 V-belts, you could at least take one off at a time.
Not with serp. I did take the blower belt off, as that makes a nice blower whine
(even though you could easily hear accessory screach noise over it).

So removed belt (again, UGH!!) and tried rotating by hand, the only thing that made any noise
was water pump, as it just about came to a stop.

But especially with a blower on this motor, the water pump is a BIG job, so I wanted to be sure.
So how to get accessories to spin at speed, but one at a time.

Worked pretty good, ordered a 32" belt, which will be an effective 16" "length". Hard to get it to stay on serp pulley on drill, "that" far away with longer belt.

Water pump was not it, it was metal idler pulley, bad new one I guess. I went back to a new plastic idler pulley,
like the one it came stock with, no more noise.

My wife would tell you I **** at relaxing unless I can't physically do something... And she'd be right.

After trying to relax (for about 30 minutes), I went out to the shop.

I emptied the collection buckets on the dust collector and then made two more drawers for the 3d printer stand.

Now I'm eating lunch. Need to stop off at HD and pick up some liquid weed killer to spray the yard.

I have the same deck on my 2011 YT3000. Wife bought it new before we were married. It has been a good machine, replaced the head gasket twice - first time I didnt deck the head/cylinder area and used an aftermarket gasket. Hopefully the 2nd attempt works better. Last season I had to replace the cam, the decomp arm broke off. Also has a repaired deck where the mount breaks off. Your repair is much better than mine. (y)

Took delivery and installation of the new refrigerator for a rental.

The delivery crew wanted $65 to haul away the working old refrigerator. I know a guy who will haul it away for less and then resell it.
Doesn't your electric company offer free recycling of refrigerators? Most utilities do.

Ran out of excuses (or worked up the nerve) to try my first welding practice run. Ran a couple of beads on scrap and started sticking random bits and pieces of other scrap metal together. I think I made a cannon?

Assembled my newly acquired Wilton 20....
This baby had seen some actual use in its lifetime...
I decided not to remove the gouges, and hammer marks, and preserve some of its history since its creation on May 1950...
Just a thorough cleaning, degreasing, rust removal, Verde green hammered and light grease...
I heated the lead screw, side locks and jaws to 350F and then a quick oil quench to blacken the finish...

Nothing today. Just tryin to rest as much as I can. Had an unexpected surprise delivery. Wasn’t supposed to be delivered until Tuesday at the earliest.

As y’all’s know, I REALLY do not like windrows in my lawn. I couldn’t help it this last time, as weather, work, and a broken mower deck meant the grass grew just a little too long.

I’m hoping these mulching blades on my mulching deck with the mulching kit will help with that. Plus, I only had one set of mulching blades.

Once I heal up, and the weather gets nicer, I’ll find out!

So today I needed to do some pre-emptive maintenance on the Weber grill. The middle burner tube was mostly clogged about 1/3 of the way down the tube - towards the gas inlet side. This caused the left side of that tube to burn so hot that the warming/flavor bar glowed RED while it was in use. That caused a hot spot on that side of the grill. I took the tube out, cleaned it and problem solved. It needs new flavor bars and grates but that can wait until after the Mother's Day steaks are cooked tomorrow evening.

painted the ceiling in my shop build. Semi gloss SW Creamy white. Should be exactly what the space needs. Trying to decide if the beadboard should be a vintage green or the entire wall should but be SW creamy semigloss. Family opinions are diverse and causing stress:)

Light colors make working easier, especially for old, tired eyes. But, you do you.

I painted the walls in my garage gloss white 35ish years ago, after a smooth finish on the sheet rock. I used a thick 1/2" roller and it gave a semi-stipple finish, and never looked back. improved the lighting 100%. Still going strong today, any messy splatters were easily wiped off of the gloss.

Switching to LED shop lights a few years back gave another lighting improvement. You can't really have too much light with ordinaty lighting.

I rearranged the 1/4” socket strips in my metric socket drawer. I made it so the hex sockets are on the red strips and all the other sockets are on the black strips.

I was going to use a paint marker to draw a white line down all the red strips at the 10mm socket line, but I didn’t…

I also didn’t clean the black strips. I always said if I pulled them out to reorganize, I would wash them with dish soap… but I didn’t… I am already regretting that… you can see the dirt in the picture.

Was working on a brake caliper, sitting on my **** cross-legged. Left leg and foot were asleep, and when I stood up and moved left, my left foot dragged on the ground and flopped under just as I came down on it with my weight. Aieee! I may have cracked my 5th metatarsal, because I can only walk on my heel. :(
Not being mean here. I hope it's just a tweak, and you get over it by lunch. However. Something that catastrophic injuries and old age teach you, it's to watch what your body parts are doing before just moving willy-nilly. Especially if things are numb, which also comes with age and injuries.

My son has foot issues related to nerve issues in his legs. He broke his 5th metatarsil last year while doing laundry? The othopedic doc say's it's a wimpy bone and is common to break. A walking book for a while and it healed.

I hope you recover quickly.

Spent the afternoon moving my "new" rolling chest into the metal tools room, which meant moving the little South Bend lathe (which has been sitting on a wheeled cart for a year), the vise and vise table, a couple of 1/2 hp motors, grinder stand and 2 grinders on another cabinet, but it is finally in the right room. Currently it is sitting under the window where the SB lathe is sitting in the picture. Today I'm taking the wife out for brunch so I may not get much done in the shop.20230513_155653.jpg

Turn up the power.
Thanks for advice - was playing around with the new welder a bit, feed was too fast for sure at first. Didn’t mess with the power as much so as I get a little bolder I’ll do that.

LOL - that would be the HF fiberglass welding blanket but looks about like my spot at the table if I’m hungry enough. I’ll buy or build a proper welding table at some point but this was practice on a wooden bench.
