My current garage isn't very wide, so I don't have much depth for wall cabinets.

The guy had an HVAC business and these came out of his vans. I think they will fit my need.

I got these for $30 a piece.

I'd like to paint these. Anyone have a suggestion for the best wait to accomplish that?

Splurged on this trash can for $25

and bought a non functioning Wilton 1750 for $30. I'm restoring the Prentiss that used to belong to my Great-Grandfather. I'm trying figure out if I should fix this one up to keep or get it in shape to sell. Is this a Wilton that's worth anything?

Is there a Wilton that's not worth anything?!

It's a tradesman vise which isn't a heavy duty as a machinist but it's still worth something to someone. A new one of the same style retails for ~$250 or so.

Dang, those are nicer than the cabinets I had in my HVAC van!

If it were me, I'd have those powder coated. Not cheap, but that stuff is way tough. Good looks, too. FWIW

I think you did really well. The cabinets will clean up really well and look good with some new paint. You can't build them out of wood for that price. What's wrong with the vise? I see the jaw pad missing. Just rusty and needs freed up?

You scored! First thing you want to do is try to take that red sticker off that vise and save it until after you repaint it. That vise had no stanped name of origin except for that sticker and you don't want to wipe away the red ink thats on it when cleaning it. If that jaw travels in and out and only the jaws are an issue, new ones on Ebay are under $40. It appears to be in nice shape. Take a look at the red 1750 restored one on Ebay. You can still turn them for a profit. Nice find!

I used some van cabinets (out of my own) as shop storage for a while and they worked great. I put them on casters so I could move them around.

For paint, I'd scuff them and roll on Rustoleum -- I'd thin it with 100% pure mineral spirits and put a few light coats with a day's dry time between. If you do that you'll get a smooth finish and it will be hard quickly. If you roll it thick and full strength it will work but you'll likely get some orange peel effect and it will take quite a while to be scratch resistant. Baking in the sun helps! Use the white foam rollers, 4" or 6", you can get at the Lowes or HD or even Big Lots.

Great stuff you've got there!

Well I guess that's the first thing I'll do then. Thanks!

Yup, it's currently stuck. First step is to get it freed up

Mix up a 50/50 blend of acetone and automatic transmission fluid (ATF). Soak the stuck parts of the vise with it, give a few raps with a hammer, and wait. It should "un-stick".

BTW, great score on your finds. Really like the storage units in the first pic.

if it doesn't want to even go out, be careful. The least little pressure forcing it out will schear off the heads of the 3 screws holding that front collar on. 1st, step, take that collar off and unscrew the spindle shaft.

Looking again at that photo, it will make an excellent restoration. Even new pipe are $20 some bucks! I might have a set of older used smooth jaws if you get desperate. If you didn't notice, that beautufully restored 1750 on Ebay is without a swivel base..
