"Fixed" the old Cobalt. I bought this 2008 Cobalt 2.2l auto from the original owner in 2013. Always well maintained by him, and then myself. Great little backup, winter beater, grocery/beer getter, or if someone needs a loaner for a few days. Runs like a little sewing machine, easy to work on, and parts are cheap. Keeps the miles and salt off the Silverado when it's not needed.

A month ago the CEL comes on. Did a scan and of course the only thing that shows up is the oxygen sensor. Trans starts to feel like it's slipping shortly after. Not wanting to put much money into it, did a check at "youtube university" ;) A known issue of a bad ground on the TCM, ECM or what ever M&M runs the car. Sends a "Power Steering" warning in the message center first, and the speedometer quits working. And will NOT shift into third gear. New jumper ground wire from the computer to a clean solid ground on top of the shock tower....100% fixed. Still laughing over it. Went from possibly hundreds for a fix.. to a six pack 🍻

Not in the garage but in front of it I ran the wire harness from the switch to the relay, & then to the battery & the lights. Mounted the switch just below the headlight switch.

I don't recall what this was about. Did you add some bar lights?

Was gonna move some tools I bought at a farm sale into the garage. My somewhat vintage opener that was there when we bought the house has an issue. The motor wants to keep spinning when it is fully opened. I believe this is some type of limiter switch that should trip but gets hung up and seems kinda broken. Not sure if such a switch is available any more. I will have to research it and see if its a cheap fix, I don't have time to deal with putting a new opener in just yet, still busy rehabbing the house. :(
Reminds me that my 1975-looking opener started jumping the chain and I just disabled it "temporarily" -- about a year ago! But I've gotten used to just opening the door manually and forget that I have one I can fix! :ROFLMAO:

Finally welded up my dewalt storage bin cart. used full extension slides so i can pull the shelf out and open the storage bin. ugly but works. then proceeded to move the bins over. sooooo satisfying to have these out from under foot. of course the one with thousands of screws was not closed so dropped all over the floor. called it a day after that.

I'm not sure a metal kite is a good idea...
I am sure it’s not a good idea. Besides the electrical hazards, I’ve seen a few do a quick rollover and power dive straight into the ground. And I have seen and been hit myself by diving kites when I was kiting as a kid with friends. Back in the early seventies there was a brand that had an aluminum weight at its top juncture point. After several years and a few electrocutions they were recalled. You don’t want to let loose that aluminum into power lines if the string breaks and the kite is carried off somewhere. Any damages incurred by the power company or any of their affected clients could be laid at your feet.

I remember back in the 70’s Hampton beach put a ban on kites on the beach. A few people getting skewered from kites ruined one of my favorite things to do as a kid.

Another day of cleaning and arranging. Put a flap disk and wire brush on an extra bench grinder motor I had. I finally sorted all my poly bins that have had **** randomly thrown in them for years. I also attempted to install my new bandsaw blade and saw why the last one broke... My wheels' rubber tires had rotted away. The blade kept slipping, and I cranked the tension up not knowing the blade was slipping because there was no rubber on the wheels. So naturally, max tension + metal-on-metal = POP! So I ordered new tires, and put the saw back on the "waiting for parts" list.

Business has been dead for me for a month or so. Rather than wallowing in it, I've been trying to improve my shop experience with my down time. All this sorting, cleaning, fixing, hell, I even pulled my benches and cabinets out and swept behind them. This place is getting a well-needed deep clean, lol.

I was going to bid on some nice shelving units at a local auction, but at the last minute I noticed that they were rusted out on the bottom. So, I'm kinda getting sick of looking at overpriced used shelving (and/or being outbid at auctions), and I am about to just go buy some new ones at menards just to be done with it.

Tried to start my back up generator with no joy. Carb looks to be gunked up even tho I ran it dry and drained it last time. Ran out of patience and time today, need to pull the carb and give it a full look over.

Had to shoot the gap three times to work on the antique cast iron today. Between Shawn finishing bailing the east field and Farmer #1 from yesterday (who also owns the 12 acre parcel to my west) showing up first to cut and then fluff, those boys kept me on my toes.

East field

On the bright side, they're about done for a few weeks and it certainly beats having neighbors.

I can see me doing that too, but I am trying not to!

I started to mow the lawn and the mower was surging so I pulled up to the garage. I pulled the fuel line and drained a little gas into a glass jar - it was cloudy with a layer of something settled at the bottom. I drained the entire tank and the gas can I had filled the mower from into another gas can thru a water separating fuel filter. I removed the inline fuel filter, flushed the fuel line and replaced the inline fuel filter with a new one. The mower ran fine after all of this so I mowed the front lawn. This was the end of my fuel stash so I have no idea how old the fuel was.

I then changed the oil and filter in my daughters Hyundai Elantra GT. While I was was flipping thru the menus to reset the service indicator I noticed that the computer says it averages 34.2 miles per gallon. That's pretty good!

Cheers

I got 5 Garland mallets (two solid head three split head) last week at an estate sale for $3 each. Two of them were pretty rusty.

Today I knocked down the rust with a brass brush. After that, I put Fluid Film on the metal.

Painting garage trim in the early hours and then worked in the garage most of the midday trying to complete the batch of bookcases for the high shelf in the master bedroom. I made a jig out of pegboard and belatedly drilled some shelf height adjustment peg holes then finished applying stain to the carcasses. Then later started applying polyurethane to the various panels I'd stained the day before. Warm and dry around here helps stain dry fast, so I've got that going for me.
Rest of the weekend I'll be applying more poly to various faces and shelves and working to get that high shelf primed and repainted so those shelves can be mounted and trimmed (4 bookcases in a row with fluted moldings between, nearly 16' long)

Takes about an hour to replace an opener, once one has already been installed. Make the time, it will be well worth doing sooner rather than later.

Roger, from my only visit to Hampton Beach, NH on the 4th of July, they should have banned swimming. I think that ice cold water permanently damaged parts of my body.

They banned everything back in the '70s, including the perfect herd thinner, Lawn Darts (Jarts). Apparently you can still buy the components and make your own set.

One of my neighbors is a RN who also does Anesthesia, her husband is gravely ill. As I was walking to my workshop, she was trying to back out of her garage, but was blocked by a BroDozer diesel pickup with a plumbing company logo on the tailgate. She said "that pickup has to move so I can get out, I have an Emergency!

I walked, with my cane, and told the guy that that truck needs to move Now, my neighbor has an emergency! He looked at me with a blank look, I started to yell at him "The truck needs "Right Fing Now, don't keep B S ing on your phone, "Move that truck, Right Fing Now".

Why do some people think they can park in a the middle of a Fire Lane, with Red Stripes on both sides?

We were at some store the other day and I saw these.

Told my wife, "Those lawn darts don't look near as much fun as the ones when we were kids". She chuckled.
