Anyone setup a fabric shelter?

I'm eyeballing a 30x40 for about $6k to throw up until I decide where to put an A frame 30x48 quonset hut. I'd be able to store the tin for the q hut in there, along with a summer car, skid steer and attachments, etc.
Have a 30x42 shop, but I'm living in it right now.

Why don't you just make up your mind on the building and put the 6 grand toward that? Though I think building an A frame Quonset hut might be a little difficult due to the intersecting curves and acute angles.

I don't know what part of Alaska you are in, but would it handle the snow load?

And if you are like me ”temporary” uses have a way of becoming semi permanent or longer so durability is important

Tons of them here in Prudhoe, though most are better quality. ,

Not too hard to put up, just a ton of bolts. I have a man lift and 80ft boom truck to help.

My neighbor had one up here in Mi.. It lasted 10 + years before the cover started to shred. He found out a new cover cost twice as much as he paid for the entire unit. But it lasted 10 years in some heavy storms and high winds.

You missed the point. A Quonset hut is half round, and an A frame is an acute angled structure

A frame one is a modified shape Q Hut. Was the easiest way to explain, as it's not the point of the posts.

There was just a thread about the smaller carport size shelters. Consensus was waist of money. Place I used to work for had 2-3 of the large ones, from what I recall 2 didn't make it through the first winter.

Make up your mind and put the $6k towards the actual building.

I had a Cover-it(sp) Qunset hut for many years in Michigan, 12' x 40'. It is still standing to my knowledge, after maybe 25 years. I sold the place 13 years ago, but visited a couple years ago. I had it for maybe 12 years. 1" steel pipe frame, gray plastic tarp cover, zippered plastic tarp doors at each end. Pretty heavy duty. Held up to wind, rain, snow in Southern Michigan. Only problem was I set it up over grass in back yard, terrible moisture inside. Everything would rust or corrode. Eventually I removed the doors on each end, moisture problem was greatly reduced.

I moved to Las Vegas, and tried other tarps over a metal frame I purchased used, none would last more than a couple years. No snow, little rain, but strong wind and Sun took their toll quickly. Nothing I tried came close to the Cover-it tarp I previously had. So depending on your need, and what you plan to store it it, it may make sense.

That's a few years down the road. Few hundred hours of dirt work needs to happen.

I'd guess it's the 30k version vs the 6k one.

We used them for aircraft hangars when all the hard hangars were full. Worked fine in violent east Texas storms.

30x65 was $5k shipped to WA, so what the heck.
He said a new tarp is about 3k.

Maybe by then I'll be able to setup the metal building.

They last one or two years here, if you’re lucky. There’s the remnants of one for free on marketplace now. Pictures show a bunch of bent poles. Shelter Logic brand

The Shelterogic ones are 15-18k. 5 year warranty.
