Is saving the design headaches worth it?

The design stage is just as gratifying*sp?* as the building stage ;)

That seems very simple. Seems like someone can do it themselves if they knew how to measure and use a circular saw.

FWIW, if one wanted, they could probably build a full workbench for that price and they wouldn't have to worry about clamps failing.

Figure 25 2x4x96 and 3 sheets of 4x8 plywood for a simple 3'x8' replica of that design.

Aside - with an 8' span, I would prefer a 2x6 on the top section like blaze's or six 4x4 legs.

If you take your time, draw out some sketches, and figure out your size requirements/limits; it isn't that hard to cut a few boards and fasten it together. The only thing you are saving yourself is the "hassle" of making clean square corners.

I really like BB767's work bench design seen on page 17 here:

If I talk my wife into building the workshop, I will have a whole wall of those built.

Thanks guys, I knew I'd get some good feedback here. I've got the tools, I've probably got the skills, and now I just have to find the time.

I would suggest building the "frames" for the lower and upper shelves then add the legs. Once in place, measure, cut and add the plywood shelf tops.

Think of it as a bunch of small projects and it is sometimes easier to find the time.
