All,

Need some help trying to source a side cabinet that will work with my 26 in black craftsman box. I am running out of room and could use the extra space. Craftsman doesnt make side cabinets anymore that i could find anywhere. Does someone have a link to back stock or a site that might have them still? Or am i stuck searching CL and FB marketplace?

If not what all side cabinets will work with my Craftsman box will a HF hang off the side just fine? Was hoping to find one of these, but i don't think i'm going to be that lucky. Any help is certainly appreciated.

I have been looking for a Craftsman side box for years. They were not super common, and when you do find them they command a pretty penny. Craftsman hasn’t made them for years so ebay/CL/FB is about your only hope. I wanted one since the Craftsman ones are smaller, and I envisioned using those drawers for things like screwdrivers and other thinner tools. The HF ones are nice, and they should hang on any box that has an appropriate raised lip. You may need to drill a hole in the bottom of your box in order to secure the side box - I think they have 2 bolts near the bottom.

Supposedly HF is coming out with a series 3 side box later this year, so there may be goood deals to be had as they clear out old stock.

You may not like this answer but have you thought of just replacing your whole setup? Your current Craftsman was the entry level home owner series and any side box you find is going to be a step up from that. You can find some pretty nice used Craftsman boxes with ball bearing drawer slides for reasonable prices if you are patient. Even the new boxes at Menards or Harbor Freight are going to function better than your current setup. Might be a good time to change your setup completely (wider, more drawers, better slides, etc.)

As far as Craftsman side cabinets, I've only been able to buy 1 in the past 4 years and I buy/sell a lot of Craftsman tool chests. They just don't come up very often.

Oh... and GBR!

I bought a side box from Harbor Freight (HF) as well. The only issue is that the new ones from HF are wider than your current box.

While i wouldnt mind a new box, just some extra room would be nice. Everything now a days comes in these nice plastic blow mold case but they take up a lot of room. Would both either or both of these work hanging from a Craftsman box like mine? I assume can hang these off either side also.

Surprised no has photos to share, i assumed this was old hat to everyone, or then again maybe everyone broke down and got a new box.

I recently saw a video on YouTube of a guy who hung a Harbor Freight Side Box onto his Snap-On Tool Cart.

Seemed like a crazy thing to do. But, it looked good. Color matched pretty well too..

I think they stopped making those ~10 years ago; as said, you are going to have to look for a used one. And they were fairly expensive for what they were, so I'm betting they're very uncommon. I have the Cman griplatch roller bearing boxes, and I've been looking for another similar box on Marketplace for ~9 months and have only seen one in my area- 300k+ people.

Saying that, keep in mind that you have a lower end box and they don't have unlimited weight capacity; be careful that you don't overload it. When I was a kid we bought my dad one of the standard Cman chests for Christmas, like what you have- less the middle box, and the lower chest ended up buckling on the bottom from the weight- and he didn't have that many tools.

The HF side cabinet is 22" deep, but I believe your Craftsman bottom box is only 18" deep. You might have to shorten the hook on the HF cabinet to get it to fit, I think.
