A 3-pak of Diablo 12" carbide pruning blades, bought from Fat Boy Tools via Amazon. These are made-in-the USA. When I was at Home Depot about 6 weeks ago I bought a single Diablo blade identical to these, but it was made-in-Switzerland, and I paid $12.97 for it. The blades in the 3-pak are $8.75 each.

I picked up one of those a few years ago when I had to cut down and cut up a tree for disposal. My brother lent me his small battery powered chainsaw. I went to the local hardware store to get the oil for it as my brother didn't have any left. I saw that blade and picked it up as well as have the saw for it. I hadn't seen a blade that long before. The blade did a better job with my corded "sawzall" than the battery operated chainsaw.

So far I've cut down and dispatched 2 tress with it.

I can't recall exactly what I paid, but thinking around $10-11 a few years ago though. Well worth it.

Geez, I had the opposite conclusion when I got some kind of blade like that for my decent sawzall ten years ago. The issue may be that everything that falls in my yard is oak.

The battery operated chain saw was not some heavy duty tool. I think it was mostly made for branches. It was pretty weak. I think it may have been a 9 inch or so. Battery operated chain saw vs corded reciprocating saw with that blade was no comparison for that task

If someone has a heavy duty chainsaw or gas operated one, then I don't think that blade would win out.

I think that blade is a good addition to a reciprocating saw for pruning trees and cutting them up if you don't want a chainsaw. Certainly makes your reciprocating saw more versatile.

My first visit to a Menards store. Coming back from Pittsburgh we passed thru Westover West Virginia where this store is located it’s like an upscale Rural King with a whole grocery section and everything. Absolutely amazing store. And I found some old stock USA made “speed” screwdrivers the shank rotates really cool. Picked those up. Got a really long 24 inch flat head. I don’t have one quite that long so for $8.89 I said why not. And a 10mm wrench made in Taiwan not Vietnam like most of their wrenches were. Well worth a visit if you have never went to one of these stores before. I was going to get a socket too but they only have 12 points and cheap 12 point sockets are usually bad news. Plus I have nearing 2,500 sockets so I don’t need one lol 😂. The screwdrivers are just plain cool though.

Anybody have the Astro stubby impact triple squares? Comparison size wise between those and the vim/matco/blue point stubby triple squares?

I'd also like to know. I need buy a triple square set. I have their stubby torx and they have worked out well. Also have the stubby hex set from Sunex, identical to the Astro set.

I’ve got the matco set of regular ones but I could use some small ones. The CTA gold ones also look decent as an alternative. I feel like the Astro’s are going to be a little larger than the others listed.

Can you share a link for these blades from Fat Boy? I didn’t see them when I did a quick search.

Thx

Picked up this 100th anniversary 1/4 100 pc Snap On socket set and Snap On 12 pc 1/2 swivel impact set off of marketplace this weekend, $1000 for both. The impacts list for more than I gave for both and only 2 impacts had ever been used and the 1/4 set was still in the plastic. Also added a second set of torch gages that were on clearance at Tractor Supply. Didn't need the sockets but I have the Snap On 56 pc set in my truck and wanted a nice set for the shop so here we are. The impact swivels were a bonus at a price I couldn't pass up from the same guy. I put the torch set on the spare bottles so if I need to really heat something up I can use both sets and at $139 seemed like a good deal.

I got lucky back earlier in the year and they had the USA versions on the 18 and 24 inch flat and Phillips screwdrivers on an endcap. They said clearance but were the same price as the import versions hanging in the regular screwdriver section but I went ahead and bought both in both lengths. Glad I did but not sure why as I haven't used any of the yet.

Upgraded my pliers. I saw the other guy's post about his 1996 Craftsman mechanic set getting him this far (he was talking about the ratchets). I have the same exact set and same exact thought. The four pliers that came with that set got me through nearly 30 years. But as I get older I feel as though I deserve to upgrade and buy tools with specific functions instead of, for example, making my Craftsman diagonal cutters do everything cutting.

Koken 3725z 3/8 ratchet 72T (bought from Amazon... that $39 Prime listing. Don't know how or why it's so cheap but it is. I opened up the head and confirmed it's the 72T dual batwing/pawl mechanism)

Pocket Pry Bar Angled (awesome pocket pry bars for a fraction of the cost of name brands)

Igarashi IPS HLB-300 Long Reach Angled. (the long reach straights are being shipped separately for some reason)

Igarashi IPS SF-165G Spring Slip Joint Pliers

Igarashi IPS SFW-210G Spring Water Pump Pliers

Igarashi IPS Soft Grip Pliers PH-165

Igarashi IPS THS-190 Ultra Thin Slip Joint

Tsunoda TH-150NC Nipper w/Lead Catcher (6-Inch)

Tsunoda KBN-150 Cable Tie Cutter

Tsunoda King TTC Diagonal Nippers CN-130

Knipex 70-160 Diagonal Cutters

@Madjik Man , tell us about your Tsunoda CN-130 & KBN-130 cutters please. I've only heard good things about Tsunoda. Thanks.

I've got the IPS HLB-300 & SF-165G, haven't used the long bent nose much but have found the spring slip joint pliers very handy. I had to wait til the price was right on the HLB so I guess I can wait on price drops for the HLB's little brothers the LPL-165 & LPL-200.

The CN-130 are fantastic. I’ve may have only used them a couple of times but they are my go to along with the Knipex

The KBN-150 are great flush nippers. I really like them. But I find myself grabbing the the ones with the catcher more often for the convenience of not having to find/fish the cut zip tie end.

Picked up this socket. Probably paid too much for it at $18 but it was convenient. I will need this tomorrow when I replace my ABS tone ring on my Ford Escape. 3 out of 4 are 32mm the front passenger is a 31mm it’s been replaced at some point. I have to be productive during vacation time lol. I have several projects to do this week now that we are back from Pittsburgh. The Escape limps when you make a slow turn because this ring is broken and it makes it kind of slide too and it takes forever to make the turn with it limping. The other side split about 2 years ago. It’s a New York car so everything is rusty so I sprayed the heck out of this axle but hoping I can get it off with no issues. I wanted to order the socket but I don’t want to be down a car and won’t have time to do it at the end of the week or weekend. I have my truck but I hate driving it because it has no air and it’s not that safe for the drivers we have around here.

You really should have bought a complete set of sockets from Tekton. Unless you get a lot of store rewards from buying parts there.

Was gonna order the Astro coolant adapter but realized there’s appear to only be useful with their kit. Snap On man had one so picked it up. Also got a deal on their stubby triple squares, still gonna need the VIM ones or something in 1/4” drive. And I did not have a digital angle 1/4” torque wrench and needed one….. so, now Im almost back to being completely in possession of everything I could need.

Toptul haul!

I was in Romania recently and got a bunch of stuff at what seemed to be pre-inflation prices.

CFBC1630 1/2″-drive extra-long (30″) breaker bar with KNIPEX 87 00 100 Cobra XS pliers for scale. This becomes my longest breaker bar. Definitely feels stout:

SJ6Hgf.jpg

GAAD1202 extra-long hex, triple-square (XZN), and tamperproof Torx 1/2″-drive bit-socket set in a pretty 15″ metal case:

UbhvKq.jpg

GAAR0401 miniature hook and pick set:

0MspKc.jpg

GAAG0809 1/4″-drive tamperproof Torx bit-socket and GAAG0804 3/8″-drive Torx bit-socket sets on rails:

9AwTgz.jpg

DFAG1211 long-reach needle-nose pliers (11″ long) and GAAR0403 set of miniature retaining-ring pliers:

vaHtxK.jpg

DAAV1A08 sheet metal, DAAQ2B10 (10″) curved jaw, and DAAS1A06 (6″) long nose vice-grips. Not great jaw alignment on the sheet-metal ones but the others look good:

Qeg6k9.jpg

SCAA2017 utility knife with spare blade inside the handle:

TQX954.jpg

JJAP1219 plastic trim removal wedge and JJAJ0813 scraper:

9pCEeU.jpg

AAAK1415 short double-ended 45° offset ring spanner and JJCG0350 three-claw grabber tool (20″ long):

IfJ8rh.jpg

I also got a bunch of individual bit sockets, etc., that make for very dull photos.

Another couple of recent additions that do look interesting:

Gedore No. 7 R straight ratcheting combination spanners. I believe these are the only spanners of their type made in Europe. Gedore didn’t have a set that suited me, so I bought a small four-piece set and added the individual sizes I wanted. I’ve placed the 13 mm spanner upside down in the photo to show what the reverse side looks like:

MBSEhG.jpg

Unior 215/2 DIN 896 double-ended tubular socket wrenches (or whatever you’d call these) in 600698 (8 × 10 mm) and 600717 (13 × 17 mm) common sizes, with 600745 stepped rod to drive them. The manufacturing and finish quality of these is better than I expected from Unior, whose tools always have great steel but sometimes a pretty rough finish:

Nothing major, just some Asahi metrics, but I was itching to make a test purchase from Amazon Japan (to the UK) to see how things were handled.

Glad to say I am very impressed, purchased these at the weekend and they arrived this morning (Wednesday), pain-free from purchase to delivery. I was under the £135 import duty limit, so I will have another buy over that and will see if I get stung for duty next time.
Interestingly enough I did not spot anything on the outside of the box stating the goods value or the contents which I thought was supposed to be on there (?)

I’ve come to repent, I was weak and couldn‘t resist temptation…..just kidding :ROFLMAO:

Finally got a set of these and have to say all the hype around these is warranted. The dexterity and rigidity is perfect, and SO actually priced them pretty fair.
