Is a quick chuck really necessary for an Astro 4980/498K?

I'm thinking of finally getting a Big Nasty or Thor to help with (among other things) an upcoming Subaru hub replacement. Is a quick chuck really necessary? As a hobbyist, my time is "free", and for the few times I'll need to break it out, I don't think the small amount of time to unscrew the spring to change bits will bother me. Other than convenience, will I miss anything without one? It would be the difference between getting a 4980 with chuck or a 498K without.

Nothing in life besides water and food is necessary. However, a quick chuck, which ASTRO in fact sells itself along with Gray Pneumatic for the 0.498 chisels is really, really nice. This thing has so much power that if the spring broke you could throw a chisel through a wall or yourself.

Have you ever used an impact hammer ? Mine both have the spring type retainer and you do not unscrew it to change the bit. You just push the end of the spring over to the side and slide the bit out and then the new one in.

I have an IR 114GQC that includes a quick change chuck, so I've never had to use a spring before. I guess I assumed incorrectly based on the videos I've watched where everyone is undoing the spring that it needed to come off to change the bit.

As long as the lack of a quick chuck doesn't affect functionality, I'm OK with using the included spring. I would hope that Astro spec'd a spring that's designed to not break under normal usage. But I will concede to **** happening.
