Anybody own an SK 45175 fine tooth (72) ratchet? I have a chance to buy one in a set and I'm curious if they have a good reputation.

I picked up a JS 12000 3/8", turned out to be an S-K 45175 clone made for the military. Very fine tooth action, quite nice. Didn't even have it back together after cleaning and lubing when a buddy stopped by and said he'd buy it!

I got my first snap on f80 today and took it to garage to compare it to my SK fine tooth (the one with the palm control thing), and they felt about the same. I use the SK all the time and I like it alot.

a nice ratchet bolster. the screw in the cap needs to be adjusted properly and it is a sweet runner if it is right. the same design as the facom ratchets. the screw should have a dab of loc-tite and then turned tight and backed off just until it runs smooth if you take it apart. if you have it apart just remember to hook the point of the heartshaped spring on the pin on the bottom of the cap when you reassemble or it won't work. you'll figure it out.

Shoot, you guys sold me on it. I don't need another ratchet and SAE socket set, but with this sort of recommendation how can I say no. If I can't find a home for it myself perhaps one of you folks can adopt it. This is what we do, right? We find good homes for good tools?

Soon you will be able to count me among the proud SK owners! Given they are no longer available, how can a guy like me resist? :bounce:

OH NO, I'm turning into a SKophant! (I'm already a Plomboron and a Protonaut and a bit of a Snap-oid.)

Darn wish you had told me that three weeks ago!

Duly noted. After a while the selector on mine worked its way loose. I ordered a repair kit, but after taking it apart realized that I could have gotten away with applying more loctite to the screw. Now that SK has gone under, I'm kicking myself for tossing the innards. All told the selector is about my only gripe with the ratchet.

I had on in 3/8. Never really used it, but it seemed like a high quality item and I hate the regular SK ratchets.

Yep, I had to mess around with mine for a bit before I figured out the spring deal.

Glad I did a search on this...good thread. I just bought a lightly used 3/8" version today at the flea market for $8.00! Wow, it's a smooth ratchet. I cleaned it up and lubed it w/ never-seize (my lube o' choice).

Here are some shots of the guts if anyone wants to see inside one of these...
