Some decent coupons/ITC deals brought me out today:
9yGfiw.jpg
I've been wanting that power strip, but $34 seemed kinda crazy (until I looked for other magnetic alternatives with USB ports - sheesh) - but the ITC deal was $25. I've eyeballed the extractors for a while too, and at 25% off ($15) I was happy to take a potential showstopper out of the equation.

The coupon for the wrenches was $99 for the set, so not quite 25% off, which is about as much as these ever go on sale for. I have a set of SK XFrame that I'm going to replace with these.

I’ve done several front ends with the cheap Amazon kit that looks almost identical for any one interested.

$75 at local Bauhaus,Wisent 20-110 3/8. Wisent is Bauhaus store brand like Napa's Carlyle. This Wisent torque wrench is made by Kabo, same as Carlyle torque wrenches. It aint stahlwille, gedore or hazet so i dont expect much from a $75 32 tooth torque wrench, its 3% so id say it MIGHT work.

picked up the Tone RMA400L set recently, and added the 13mm to it. Pic shows Tone 14mm and 10mm compared to Carlyle same. The Tone are slightly thicker at the flex end. Got the Tone because the spline drive on the Carlyle is annoying, and the direction switch on the Carlyle also annoying....can't use it in close quarters without it getting wrongly switched repeatedly. Flex end on the Tone are all indented but not on the 13mm which wasn't part of the set. Odd.
anyway, i'll put the Carlyle up for sale, good concept but the spline drive and switch just got to be too much...

I'm a fool for RBRT stuff!

Been thinking a lot about these wrenches lately. Asked my MAC guy this morning if he had any, and he does. But for about $350 out the door, it's a hard sell for me these days. I don't need them and I'm being cheap. But damn it, I want them.

This is actually part of the haul from yesterday, but dropped it coming through the garage

They dropped the price on these to $8 (from $10). I gave a full set of these Doyle Heavy Duty to my oldest for the first apartment, and was pretty impressed with them. For eight bucks, I'm glad to have a couple beefy IDGAF screwdrivers that are made to be abused.

That’s a nice set. How much did they run you?

This showed up yesterday, OTC Front End Service Set

Can you let us know what you think of this? I assume you have a job at hand.

Ditto...

I've destroyed rented pullers with hand tools, would love to find a good set. Seeing some pretty bad reviews on the cheaper sets (easily damaged, etc.).

Mike

I've had that same set longer than I've been a member here. I've used every piece of it many many times. Does what it's supposed to do.
I even have a couple extra of the Tie Rod puller that comes in this set because I've ground the ends down to make the points better able to grab a hold of the race that always gets left tight up to the flange of a hub when pressing off a wheel bearing. It's the only tool I know of that helps with that unless you want to cut it off with a grinder or a torch.

Lots of brands have an identical kit. One of my boys has had the Gearwrench set and my brother I believe has the Harbor Freight version (he bought it after wanting to borrow mine and I know better). They all look the same and I've seen theirs used a many a time too without issue. I'm not sure there's really any appreciable quality differences between them, but it's worth noting that OTC's 6295 Front End kit is the OG for this kind of set and are still the manufacturer for both Mac (FE6295A) and Matco (MST6295B) that sell for a LOT more for the exact same kit.

It's been a very quite year for me on the tool front, but I did pick up a few things this week.

First up: a couple of Toyo T-320's. I'm not sure if these are new colors or not, but when I saw them, I had to have them.

Next up: A small order from KC Tool. I figured it was about time to get something that's less destructive to my leather punches. Then a smaller level, and a carbide scribe.

I’m just going to wait until they start selling individual rbrt wrenches and pick up the ones I need. I’ve got enough wrenches to hold me over until then.

Hey is that carbide scribe WITHOUT a magnet? I've been looking for one because the magnet is always getting loaded up full of metal shavings.

Buy the USAG versions?

I wasn't aware the RBRT style was available from the OEM or under any other brand. I thought it was exclusive to MAC.

I know the standard "Precision Torque" style wrenches are available under Facom and possibly others, just without the MAC name.

I've seen people getting the European versions, not sure but someone in the US was selling some, otherwise it's the import from overseas deal. I beleive they are getting the set anywhere from 150 to 200 bucks.

Big day for me. I scored in ebay Kleinganzeigen a full set 5.5-32 of Stahlwille open box 13s, unused. After careful consideration, I had desided that this was the best wrench pattern for my taste. List price 550€ , amazon de price 350€, I got these for 195€ shipped. No insurance though.

There are several custom saddle makers here in Wickenburg. Every one uses a rawhide maul for striking their leatherworking tools.

Personally, I'm not a fan of that style of mallet...they are extremely expensive, heavier than I like, and not as practical as a more traditional style mallet/hammer
