I fixed my “shortcut” last night, it took longer than I hoped, but it is done. I still have a few more things to enter, but I should be ready for the accountant this evening.

I hope to have the main chunk of office paperwork wrapped up in a day or two, then I need to get prepping things for the auction, it is right around the corner.

I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and it isn’t a train coming at me!!!!

Accountant is coming over tonight, I suspect there will be some things I need to get her, things above and beyond what I have already, but at this point I feel good about everything. I want to have all the books caught up and current, I hope to have that done by Wednesday. After that I may take a little time to do some things at the Salvage Garage for a change of scenery, I just had to turn the AC temp back a bit, I was getting chilly, guess fall is coming.

The local guessers are saying it will hit Halifax directly, we will be in the "cone", it looks like the end of the week and this weekend is when we will really feel it. I just hope we can get through Friday without too much craziness. I already have enough to worry about without Mother Nature kicking me in the balls.

Seeing as I live right on the coast, wind direction will be everything. Marinas are pulling in-as many boats as they can. Fueling hose, reels etc are coming off floats. Most people are taking the forecast seriously .

It is better to be prepared than wishing you had been. Unless it changes course drastically, I probably won't have much of an issue except power outages and generators. I am working on some of those issues right now. Most of the towers are rated for 90 MPH winds with some radial ice, so we shouldn't have any issues in that respect.

It's a good thing, I had the fuel tank filled back in may and I believe that the toggle switch got accidentally pushed to "run" and the battery was dead from opening the fuel solenoid. Both the "dashboard" and fill pipes are on the other side.
A couple of hours on the charger and it's running now. I'll give it an hour or so.
I don't think this storm will amount to much but if I hadn't checked and the battery was dead, we'd loose power for sure! 😆

After going through Harvey, Hanna, two ice storms and living with an ancient set of Rural Electrification Association power lines.... that is a beautiful thing! I like it, A LOT.

They keep downgrading it, so I think we will only have some decent wind, nothing too crazy, I am still expecting power outages.

The accountant is almost complete with the taxes, I am standing by incase more info is needed. It will be a decent relief to get that taken care of, but we have to look over 2023 and get things figured out.

I think Dad is going to freak out a bit, he told me that he wanted to start building a bank account, but I don't think he understood what that was going to involve, he had a "profit" of over $200k last year, at least on paper. Essentially he has run the company a year behind on everything, so without all the expenses and me paying off all the big bills (at least what I had for extra), there really is no profit in the bank. I think it will take another year, then once we are caught up, he will start to accumulate funds. I can't wait for the tax bill, at least we have enough to pay it, shouldn't even need the line of credit. I do think we are going to buy him a new truck, so that will offset some of the taxes for 2023, but I suspect there will still be a good chunk due because I am still working on paying off the other loans.

Who knows, he could decide he just wants to spend it all and not have the taxes or the bank account. I am going to also discuss with my Stepmother, I want her input as well as his moving forward.

Apparently something in the plumbing must be leaking or running, recent issue too. I had checked the water tanks and I had almost half a tank about a week ago. I am totally out now, but I can’t do anything about it right this minute, I have to get the tax documents dealt with first. I know what I am doing this evening though, water, water, and more water.

Well, $hit...

Apparently the last time I filled the tanks I release the new valve to let the water drain back. I didn't remember that, but it has been a while since I filled the tanks. Anyways, when I turned on the pump, it didn't seem to work, I figured it was the pressure switch, so I bypassed that, still nothing, not even a burp of air. I waited a while because I knew the line was empty regardless, then I had to leave it on to see what was going on at the well. Got down there and the pump was pumping for sure, at this point I figured I had an issue with the line, so I waled all the way up to where they are much more exposed, no leaks, but also no water. When I went back down to see if there was something else going on, I realized that there was flow, it was just flowing directly down. I had to go into my pictures to find out how the bypass valve was and sure enough it was pointed down. At this point the water is too murky to want to pump into the tanks, I must have circulated it at full force for half an hour before I realized what is going on. I really need to finish all that plumbing and the aluminum hatch, it will make everything ten times easier. I am going to close the bypass valve and let things settle, I should be OK to pump things up tomorrow, if the weather isn't too bad. Luckily I have a 5 gallon water container so I can flush the toilet. If I can't get the water to pump tomorrow, I have a partial tank out front that I can string together all my hoses and get it to pump into the tank downstairs, at least that will give me some water and hopefully I can figure out why it ran out so quickly.

After everything that has been going on lately, I decided to just setup the pump and transfer the water that I had. It is still pumping (probably take an hour). At least I figured out what happened to all the water, the chain on the toilet mechanism got tweaked around the flush valve and it was stuck open. Probably last thing I did before leaving was flush the toilet. It is fixed now. I am going to eat my lunch, a little late, but I am hungry. ;)

Just got home, got a bit more than half a tank of water, might be able to fill the rest of the tanks tomorrow. I have to change out the cheap valves that come with the tanks, you have to destroy the old valves, they can’t make a full revolution due to the handles. I figure changing those out is a good thing, they are much nicer ball valves. I also got some valves that have a one way flap built in, so they should make the setup I use with the auxiliary pumps much easier to use, no big mess of fittings.

After having a couple of flappers hang open or land slightly askew over the years, I've developed the habit of waiting for the fill to complete. Mind boggling that a modern Kohler toilet can have that issue but it's just a mechanical gizmo. 30-45 seconds of my time is worth the peace of mind.

It is funny, from the radar images you would think that we got some decent rain, but not a drop hit the ground. It may end up being a bit more breezy this afternoon, so far so good, plenty of day left to get effed up though. I am going to fill all the tanks, then try and do some service to the Blurb, oil change, undercoating touch up, and you guessed it, adjust the rear brakes. :(

It’s pretty crazy up here, lots of rain, lots of wind. Lost power, tree on line camp fixed already. Neighbor and I cut up maple completely across road. Wanted road open for emergency vehicles, state wouldn’t get here until next week.

Strouty, you interested in 2 black gold waste oil furnaces? Probably pretty cheap. They worked but they couldn’t keep them primed after they were shut down every weekend.

I figured it would be worse for you Walrus. So far I have not lost power or internet. Had to do a few things before getting the water tank project going, should be starting that shortly. I am going to clean out the well a bit, then add some bleach, that way it has time to do its thing while I am swapping valves over. I really need to add some handles to the lid of the well, with my messed up finger, it is really tough to get it up and off. I will update with some pictures later.

He is more “Downeast” IIRC.

I have all the valves swapped out, going to start filling the tanks now. Fingers crossed there are no more issues.

The new valves are nicer ball valves versus just a gate/flap seal. They also have swivel nuts to connect them, the original ones were all one piece. They have a special tool to turn them, I may have to look into it, they are not easy to get tight and I may need to tighten them more as they seat themselves. My hands are probably at 60% ability right now, but they are as tight as I could possibly get them. It will most likely take four hours to fill all the tanks, maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. Once I start, I can’t really stop, the pitless adapter leaks back and it will make the water murkier if I wait too long.

I have enough water in each tank to make sure there are no leaks, so far so good. Totally filling the first of six tanks, should take about 40 minutes. I am going to start working on getting the Blurb on the lift, technically I have to clear the floor first, so it may be a few.

It is taking 45 minutes per tank, a little longer than I remembered, but I have only filled the 330 gallon tanks once. The original ones were 275. I am getting things done in between the tanks, almost have the shop floor cleaned up enough to get the Blurb inside. I got the battery and disconnect switch installed in the riding mower. Put air in the XC70 tire, jumped the battery, then moved that out of the way. Mowed the front of the house and I am finishing up weed whacking now. At that point I should be filling the three outside tanks, those are easier to deal with as they aren’t under the house and I don’t have to worry if they overflow a bit.

Adjusted the brakes and changed the oil, then the fuel filter, having trouble bleeding the system, pretty sure my lift pump is bad. I tried to see if it would catch with the fuel that was in there, no luck, started, then died. I am pretty sure I have another pump, fingers crossed, otherwise I will have to take Bev home.

NOT the lift pump, checking things over, makes no sense as I drove it in. I checked ground on OPS, I have a relay bypass and it doesn't do anything. I feel like it is oil pressure switch, going to test that next. Yes I did put oil in it...

OK, has to be OPS related, when I crank, the cluster shows no oil pressure. Now to see if I can figure out why.

I only have 40 minutes and then all the water tanks will be full, so I wanted to be ready to leave when that happens. We will see.

It appears to be the wiring somewhere between the relay and the lift pump. I am going to try and verify things again, but if I put 12 volts to the lift pump, it absolutely pumps. Gotta love it when something dumb happens when you are just trying to do simple maintenance. :(

All the water tanks are full, but the Blurb still has no lift pump. I am going to change the OPS even though I don't think that it is the problem. I may have to see if I can find my GM service manual and start running deeper checks. This is crazy, never had this happen before, but seems like a wire is broken and it either had enough contact to function until just now. I may be able to hot wire the pump to an ignition power source, it will start after I put 12 volts to the lift pump and prime the system. I just hate to hack something together and then have another problem after leaving the Hill.
