I think I mentioned as the second phase of prep projects for the paundry room addition, I needed to move my fence and gate back to allow room for all the work to be done....decided last night was going to be the night

Here is the fence and where it butted up to the back corner of the house....also essentially where the addition will be built, right where that exterior door is, the door opening will remain in the same spot to go out into the paundry, then the exterior door will turn 90° and exit towards the front of the house at the front outer corner of the addition...which will be approximately where the window is now....total dims are 8ft out from the house and 14ft long

Today is the unofficial/official start of project paundry room, builder showed up today to drop off the block for the foundation and the bobcat. While he was here we "popped" the concrete pad off the top of the old entry way by the side door....of course in my engineer brain it would work fine....it did until we turned in 90° to rotate it so that it would slide into the new home I made for it...forks weren't quite long enough and the weight won the battle

new home was outside the basement entry door beside my shed, spent a little time out there last night leveling and tamping that out...came out rather nice

almost perfectly successful placement of the old slab top...womp womp...does anyone have any experience with "self leveler" as the builder called it? it seems like it should be relatively easy to clean up enough for where it is, its purpose (shed door does open, that was check #1)

How's the old saying go, while the cats away the mice will play? My wives been out of town since Wednesday afternoon, found an above average amount of garage time...and maybe an above average amount of miller lite drinking lol...but had some fun working on my car and found a pretty screaming deal on a new to me tool for the garage.

Friday afternoon as I was about to cut out for one of my remaining "summer hours" half day Fridays, a quick check into marketplace reveled a delta variable speed drill press for $30!! So It was must have that took me about an hour and a half up the road, but, I view the time/drive as a sunk cost regardless of what i found and it was a great deal

In car project progress, many hours cutting 3/16" plate steel, I have working engine and front subframe mounts! The car is officially supporting its new heart on its own...both frame rails are reinforced with 3/16" plates fillet/rosette welded into place

After a busy week of work travel, got home and knocked out a few projects that have been lingering....

Finally got sick of seeing the cover for the mini-split lines laying around, so tackled that little project...I always kick myself for putting stuff off, was too simple to have waited that long

Got the recycled concrete pad leveled and pieced back together, filled the cracks with concrete, will likely sand it flush, get some crack filler to clean it up a bit more then paint both pads brown to match the brick on the side of the house...also recycled those pavers to make a little bit of a step/transition...not perfect, but it will serve the purpose

I just found myself in this exact scenario over the weekend. Probably close to three years ago I ripped up the carpet in our boys' room. Shortly after, we purchased all of the vinyl plank flooring necessary to finish the rest of the basement. I kept putting it off with many excuses. Lack of time of course, but I also originally was convinced that I needed to do more than flooring (trim, repaint, new outlets, etc) and that scope of a project to me was just so daunting. I finally recently convinced myself that I didn't need to do all of that, that just putting the flooring down is enough for now. So this weekend I did just that, installed all of the flooring in the boys' room in one day. I enjoyed it too, and at the end the impact of seeing the floor finished made me just feel really silly for over analyzing so much and putting it off for literally years.

Big rocks and little rocks. I have heard this before but it was slightly different with a cool twist at the end.

A professor teaching a class had big bowl and a few golfball sized rocks rocks. The rocks represented important things in life, home, family, career. He placed the rocks in the bowl and asked if it was full. Most of the class said yes.

He said not so fast and pulled out a smaller bowl full of pebbles. The pebble represented the little things in life. Cutting the grass, a new phone, the cable bill. He then pours the pebbles over the big rocks and, like in the video above, they fill all the gaps and spaces. Same question to the class, 'is the bowl full?' "Yes" was the response from even more students.

Then he pulls out a bowl of sand. What color to paint the hallway. Red shirt or blue shirt. The sand represents all the things that might be insignificant, but still work their way into your life on a daily basis. He poured the sand in and it filled all the gaps and spaces between the pebbles. Same question, 'is the bowl full?' The whole class loudly claimed 'yes.'

The professor went on to explain his lesson, and that embracing order and organization can help you lead a better, fuller life by prioritizing the most important things, the big rocks. He then stated the bowl wasn't yet full and pulled out a can of beer, and while pouring it into the full bowl, explained that 'even when life is full, and you feel outnumbered by the tasks in front of you, there is always room for a beer.

Your compressor is in that shed right? A pneumatic can crusher would be great there. I got one a few months ago and love using it. Everyone else does too!

Appreciate the kind words! Yes, compressor is in the shed, need to get it plumbed soon, been putting off that project for way too long

Had a nice long weekend, took Friday off to do some house projects, unfortunately the one I was most looking forward to was a failure, forgot my garage door was 18ft, thought it was 16ft, so the retractable gate I bought wasn't long enough...but we will get back to that soon, I have a revised plan, lol....

Gate was planned to keep the dogs out of the garage while working/hosting people in the garage...was a good buddies birthday friday, and for his bday he wanted to tackle a laundry list of maintenance on his new daily beater....so coordinated with his wife to do a thrash in the garage/surprise drop in bday gathering....apparently i forgot to take photos, but full front suspension refresh and clutch change was a success, by early evening car was back on the ground and we were enjoying good company and frosty adult beverages

Yesterday got a bit of a treat, a different friend organizes a small porsche and euro car meet, got to see my first ever Singer 911 in person, I must admit the live up to the hype, but not sure that is where i would spend ~$750k +, but i guess when you have that kind of money its a different conversation....but wanted to drop these here b/c it really was a beautiful car

Got back to work on my project the past couple nights, got my oil pan cut up Monday night, then some CAD fun last night

This is all to clearance for the steering rack input/pinion....

I think I am good from a clearance standpoint, I've got the pan back installed with the cardboard templates, I can't "feel" any interference, but that is where the cut/tack will come into play

One of my new favorite stores is metal supermarkets, there is a location (luckily) 20min from my house, called them yesterday after I updated this thread, ordered 3x 6"x12" 16ga HRS sheet, was ready at 1130a, ran over at lunch which kept me moving forward last night....

Footers got poured Wednesday, then the brick mason came on Thursday to get started....

Foundation got wrapped up Friday....wasn't without a little bit of a struggle...Thursday he had the back, front and starting to make the turn to the front corner, we pulled a string back and realized it was out by ~4", so we pulled all the block back off from the front side, lots of measurements later we were back in business...sometimes working from home has its benefits as I was able to jump in and help (brick mason is 83yrs old and the measuring was the builders miss)

Then today I ripped off all the current siding and the old , nasty, original siding that was under that....stuff is a mess and certainly full of asbestos....but ready for the builder to come tomorrow and get the floor started so the mason can finish up the stairs....project should come together quickly

In garage type updates....second jetta wagon in the garage in two weeks....helped a buddy do timing belt/water pump service on his sons car...all my fell vw enthusiast will know how annoying going a timing belt on a 1.8t...ugh...working on oem vehicles is aweful lol...but always fun to help a friend and get some quality shop time in with the guys

I'm always impressed how quick things take shape when folks that know what they are doing are doing the work...looking at it, there is nothing there intimidating to me, but I would over complicate things to no end....walls up, stairs get finished up tomorrow, then start on the roof

Waiting on two windows to arrive that will go on the long wall, you can see where they left a stud out....windows will be ~32x16, something skinny up high just to let some light in and allow us to have storage on that wall

Thanks, we are getting excited....ordered washer/dryer and deep freeze last week because lowes was having a sale that was too good to not capitalize on ~$1k worth of savings....although, I'm sure another will happen soon, but didnt want to risk it....so things are certainly starting to come together.

The wife and I celebrated our 1yr anniversary this weekend, so snuck out of town mid-morning Friday to have relaxing weekend up in Asheville, NC. Our/my favorite brewery had a music/beer sampling festival, so we treated ourselves to tickets to that along with some time away for general relaxation

Paundry room project update before we took off Friday....they are stick building the trusses b/c my old house was stick built and the roof pitch is kinda strange, so the builder wanted to ensure where they roofs meet on the back side line up as good as possible

Couple cool photos from the weekend, my wife loves to take photos....even of my car....we got up and did a drive each morning in Asheville, leaves are certainly starting to change, especially when you get up in the higher elevations. Fun fact, Mt. Mitchell, ~1hr outside of Asheville is the highest point east of the Mississippi....~6800ft, was 37°F up there Sunday morning...chilly in shorts and flip flops lol

Another day, a little more progress, got all the exterior walls up and almost fully wrapped....didn't get the back done b/c they needed to adjust the header for the windows, the soffits on my house are odd (old house problems), so it needed to come down another 3"

They are getting the roofing plywood up today, weather permitting roofer is still set for Friday....Its going to be time for me to start on my end of things pretty soon

Good Progress yesterday, photos don't do the amount of work justice, but plywood is on the roof, fingers crossed that the weather holds out and we will get the roof on tomo.

Window got install, so close to feeling like its, "in the dry," talked a lot about electrical layout this morning, need to finalize that with the wife over the weekend

In a more fun note, I had planned a "couples drive" for some of the local car friends and wives, we are very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and it is as close to "peak season" as you will get, I didnt take any photos, but one of the folks in the group is a rather good photog, he snapped these along the way, but since he was the driver didnt get any of the crazy colors we saw when driving, but it was certainly really pretty in a lot of spots....I'll have to see if my wife can send me some good ones

Been chipping away at the paundry, past our initial "in the dry" inspection last week, I got 90% of the insulation, caulking done yesterday, lined up the drywall guy, so hopefully get a few little things done this week, get the "after insulation" inspection done, then onto drywall....seems like this little project could come together quickly

Also - just about time I posted yesterday, I got a little treat from the USPS that I've been patiently waiting on for 3-4months.....my seats for the widebody car finally arrived!

I know some may hate it, but its my car lol, but in all seriousness, I've always wanted a white car with a red accented interior, specifically seats, I knew when I ordered these this would be the only time I'd ever do it b/c I would never go back and order new covers or have something recovered once they were black (I'm just cheap like that).

So here they are, Recaro Profi SPG in red velour. I'm a huge fan of the Recaro Pole Positions that are in my Cayman that were previously in my R32, these are very similar and don't carry the "Pole Position" tax....

Excited to get bases and sliders on these, get them in the car and keep working on my steering system/linkage, got started on that last night, but not much great photo-worthy, mainly just disassembly

That color combo for the widebody sounds awesome. I really wanted some Recaros for my AUdi, but I'm too cheap to buy them new. So, I found some comfy Corvette seats instead.

Believe me, it pained me to buy these seats new, but they came in at just over $2k for the pair shipped to me, so for that, it was hard to justify buying used when most people want well over $1k for a pair and then likely still have to buy shipping.

Found some garage time last night, one of my big variables with the v8 swap in the gti has been steering routing, seat placement and all those "little" things that work together and if not thought out, they can really kick you in the ****...

So last nights small, but never straight forward project was to get the drivers seat in the car so I can start working on the steering....I had these old Recaro side mounts laying around that worked with a set of sliders I needed for another car/project at one point....put some painters tape on the back of them to keep the from scratching up my fresh new shinny seats

Seat somewhat bolted in....unfortunately these sliders/rails are different than what the seat brackets were built around...womp womp....and then the side mounts are actually different....so debating how to best address that, but in for mock up

Next step will be to get the seat a little more secure, it only has one bolt and a clamp holding the rear of the slider down, that got me to a stopping point last night
