I saw an ad for a farm estate sale that listed tools. Well, it was mostly old power tools, which I have no interest in, but off to the side I found this:
53236424887_90c619e847_b.jpg
It was full of cheap, import wrenches, but those are now bound for the Restore, and this will be filled with the correct Williams tools. But, when I was on my way to pay, I noticed this off to the side:

so, of course, it came home with me. It makes a rather nice shop stool, quite comfortable.

Saturday I attended a rummage sale at a local church. Tuesday I was able to pick up the two cabinets I bought there for $10.00 each. One is a five-drawer lateral filing cabinet, and the other is a four shelf unit that was designed for hanging files, but all that is easily removable, and the shelves pull out on ball bearing slides. I use the lateral files for bulky tools like saws and drills. The shelf unit will hold similar items that I don't want to lift out of the lateral file drawers.

Four Shelf Unit.jpg
The duct tape is just to keep the drawers from sliding out while moving the cabinets around.

Saturday, I attended an estate sale and have already posted my finds from there. Many of those finds came from three card files that the departed hoarder had obtained from the County Tax Office. The estate company was asking $150.00 each for the cabinets, which was a little steep.

I attended the monthly flea market on Sunday, and dropped by the estate sale on the way home. It was the last day of the sale, and I offered $150.00 for all three cabinets, with the agreement that they could continue to sell any items from the drawers until the sale closed at 3 PM. They took my offer, and helped load everything out about 5 PM. We removed the bins/drawers to move the cabinets, which are quite heavily built. All three cabinets have the same outside dimensions.

The green cabinet is built differently from the other two. It has front panels attached to the slides, and two bins lift out from each drawer. There is a latch to keep the slides from moving, so this would be perfect for a mobile installation.
Green Card File.jpg

The two gray cabinets have bins with front panels that lift out, leaving the slides in the cabinet. They are built identically to a cabinet I already own, except for the manufacturer. Apparently these were built to a government specification.
Gray Card Files.jpg
There was quite a bit of stuff left in the drawers/bins. I have found a few goodies (collectible tools, useful supplies, etc.) and not much that will go into the trash. I should be able to find homes for the rest easily. I've already cleaned out six bins for the green cabinet and am sorting things by use (AC power items, 12V DC items, etc.) as a first step. The top pallet of bins is from the green cabinet, and the lower pallet holds bins from the gray cabinets.
Contents 1.jpg
Contents 2.jpg
I'll be keeping the gray cabinets for sure, but may sell the green one.

^^^ It's possible, but I will point out that like @misterbill's example, most of William's branding was a sticker and therefore did not require factory-placed holes in the cover. Whether Duplex routinely pre-stamped those holes there for all their contract work, I can't say.

Maybe @misterbill can tell us if his box has holes under the sticker.

I can’t remember when or by who but I thought I saw a Williams box like it but it had a badge in that spot in this thread.

Had an errand in a neighboring town today so checked out a garage sale outside my usual territory. Broke my rule of being picky and not grabbing rusty things that need cleanup but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Here’s what $5 got me:
-Unbranded 1/2” drive impact gun
-OTC drift punch
-long c Craftsman breaker bar
—Blackhawk locking socket and Snap On socket
-Kastar feeler gauges
-1/4” drive Speedmaster ratchet, I think made by Wright?
-Lufkin center punch
-Proto 4” adjustable wrench
-Craftsman short extension
-extendable magnet wand
-box of copper rivets

Nothing crazy but stuff I’m happy with! The speedmaster ratchet is fun. The head is bulbous but I had one like it in 1/2” drive that I thought worked really well

While out running errands today, I stopped by the one sale that was of any interest, and then the Restore afterword's.
53239646549_df0f6a5b3a_b.jpg
At the sale I found a set of Lectrolite DBE's, while I was lucky enough to dig out of the socket bins a bunch of Blackhawk 7/16s drive sockets. And while I was digging, I found a Snap-on and Proto LA to boot.

But the real score came from the thrift a few weeks back:

This Williams CL find supposedly came from a closed mill in the Mon Valley. A fairly clean 3 drawer box (including key) with most of the 1/2" line that Williams sold at the time I'm guessing.

I believe this is your set, you should see how much of it is still left after all these years.

If you don’t mind my asking how much did you give for this box.

And you helped me determine the brand of a box I got last week.

Thanks Bill! @S-K Tool Fanatic! Even though we know Duplex supplied boxes for multiple brands, thanks to Bill's photo above, there is no question your's certainly could have been a Williams. Congrats!

Picked up a few things at Hershey. Trust me when I say it was a lot of effort for a little return, but I completely enjoyed it. 4 hour drive round trip, $20 for parking, and walked all 9 fields in one day.

1” Blackhawk combo for a set I’m working on was the only “must have”. An SK 1/4” tin for the next set building project. A “G” dated M-60 Snap on extension, and the rest are Bonney that I rescued because I just can’t leave a Bonney behind, unless sellers think they are made of gold. IMG_5200.jpegIMG_5198.jpeg

I've had an automated email alert setup on CL for "Delta Drill Press" for several years. 98% of the alerts are spam or Chinese homeowner toy DP's. About once a year a vintage Delta DP shows up but they are either basket cases, incomplete, 15" or grossly overpriced. This time I got lucky with an ad for a beautiful 17-600 machinist model for $175. Since the ad was 13 hours old I suspected it was long gone but called them anyway. They returned my call right away and it was still available. I offered them $200 cash sight unseen and told them I could pick it up in a couple hours. (decided to highball vs lowball). It's really nice. It's dirty but there's not a blemish on the table and nothing's missing. They threw in a whole bunch of big drill bits, a rolling drill bit index , a Palmgren and a Simplex vise and a few other items.

The owner said he had a few more things he had to get rid of. One of them was a Delta grinder in excellent shape with lighted eye shields. He said $65 and I said I'd take it. I've seen a lot of homemade stands but the stand for one is built like a brick *********.

As I was about t leave the owner asked if I was interested in a Kennedy toolbox with a mic, caliper and misc. I told him probably not but said I'd take a look anyway. Out comes an absolute mint Gerstner machinist chest cram packed full of machinist tools. He said $100 and it's yours!

Been awhile since anything interesting has been around in my area but today I spent $8 on a small lot.
PXL_20231007_172435400.jpg
Wright 15/16 wrench
Snap On Torx driver
Matco 1/4 flex driver
Homebrew hammer(I like finding Homebrew)
Bag of sockets: 1 snap on, 1 Mac, 4 craftsman plus t handle, 2 gearwrench, 1 sk, 2 challenger extensions, 2 Stanley, 1 kmart, 1 action(I think that was the brand), pile of Taiwan plus random bits

Overall not really interesting still but it's something for me to clean up at least.

Ah, the old bait and switch. A shame you got taken advantage of like that. After a stop like that, i'd keep looking, buy a lottery ticket or two, continue seeing if your luck holds up

No tools today. I did get this for free. Seller thought it was unrepairable. I replaced the power supply from my junk pile, and it powered right up. These are ****, but have good bones for a mame build.

Geez, two pairs of the hi strength wire cutters, and that's just what jumps out at me on my phone, without my glasses on. I can see the low pressure region moving north, with an impending weather change.

Picked up a cigar box of end mils, misc. drill bits and counterbores a few weeks ago at an estate sale.

Traded away most of the decent end mills (a lot were junk).
Sent quite a few S+D drills back east to my buddy for resharpening.

Sorted out the counterbores, pilots, and the driver today.

Not bad for $25 .

Picked up these valve cutting tools today.

What do you think would be a fair market value asking price
if I were to sell them on FleaBay ?

Estate sale ($40): 3-SK sockets sets; 22 cal pistol; Diamond Calk 4" crescent wrench; PS&W bit brace; 50' Ace Hardware tape measure; bicycle light?; Mac SP16 scraper; Master Tufboy no.308 8' tape measure; Estwing E3-22SM 16" framing hammer; Keencut 13C-8 scissors; Yale pad lock; Schrade -Walden (1953-1957) US Navy survival knife; Carl Nath **** chisels; Vermont American no. 65966 dove tail saw; Draw knife; Propane, Las'stik king sized dust cloth.

Normally, I ignore loose sockets, but in this instance found the empty cases so I decided to sweep up the entire drawer of loose sockets and ratchets. Tada I think I'm only missing one 1/4" - 7/16" deep socket.
