It's probably everything I'd ever need but feels like it's nothing I'd ever use.
Except for the 14mm socket I think my Tool Check plus has everything in this set plus some more. Oh, well. It’s like buying an expensive automatic watch - beautiful to admire but a quartz Timex keeps the same time.

I still want one of those damn things. I've been able to resist buying it, because I already have an alternative to everything it comes with.

But damn it, having that many tools in a slim single package is beyond tempting. I also wish it included a 14mm however.

I actually bought a 14mm Wera socket and replaced the 13mm. I hope I’m never sorry but I carry it on the motorcycle and I’m sure I won’t need a 13 on there.

I have bad habit of buying tools I either want (but don't need) or have a future expectation of needing (but rarely do). I also struggle with redundancy.

I don't consider myself a tool collector by any means. I bounce between getting paid to wrench in a shop environment and just being a DIY mechanic.

The point is I buy tools with the intention of actually using them, not displaying them, showing them off or just to have. Unfortunately however life often has other plans and too many tools go unused or are no longer needed.

I've also been battling minimalism and sentimental attachment to tools. Finding ways to mentally justify not selling them. Something I rarely experience, I own very few material objects other than tools.

I've accumulated enough that about 9 years ago I began a thinning of stuff. I've sold and donated yet the varying areas of that accumulation is tough. I have redundancy as well and at times it has been reasonable to have it. Other areas it sits and I look at those as wasted $ that did not need to be spent at the onset. To me the joy now comes from using.

A buddy buys constantly in many areas and the accumulation is immense, having just to have must fulfill some void in his life. There is no way he can rotate through all of it and he stated he doesn't use most of it.

I already had this compact Hazet set.

When I bought this similar Wera.

Thing is, they’re different grades of tool, and I use them differently.

The Hazet tends to get used on higher quality fasteners, and lives in my shop.

The Wera is a sort of “mid grade”, and gets used on everything from household jobs to woodworking tool adjustment. There seem to be a lot of “Wera grade” tasks in my life at the mo.

I’ve got a serious load of 1/4“ drive sets, but I’m in a country where I encounter metric, SAE, BA and Torx fasteners, not to mention every variety of screw, so every set has it’s role, and I use them all.

Almost everything I buy at this point is wants not needs lol. I’m sure I’ll find more needs as my career progresses but right now I’ve got everything I need. So yes I buy tools I want. Like I love old Craftsman stuff so when I find it I buy it as long as the price isn’t high most people seem to think they are gold. Now that my pawn shop closed I can’t find any at a good price. I also buy other brands. I love having tools whatever they are. All the ones not in the box at home or work or in the vehicles are stacked up in totes and cardboard boxes. I have so many hand tools it’s crazy but I want to be that person someone comes to when they need something. I love being that guy at work that all the old guys come too because they don’t have it haha.

That’s a Hazet 856-1.

Basically Hazet’s answer to the Facom “Nano” sets. If you want the most compact / easiest to carry then I think the Facom sets still win, but the Hazet sockets and accessories are top end.

There’s now also an 856-1HP which substitutes a “HiPer” ratchet and has colour coded sleeves on the bits.

There also seems to be a good deal of price variation on these.
