So this guy is trying to sell a single Craftsman 42961 16mm x 18mm Double Box End Wrench for $30 !

First off, Craftsman wrenches are NOT COLLECTABLE ! They will never increase very much in value !! $20 would be a lot (IMHO).

Second, if it was "collectable", the value would be greatly diminished by engraved owner marks !

Dreamer?

Been on eBay long?

People list at ridiculous prices all of the time. If someone buy the item - great, if no one does - whatever.

Spotted a brand new Turkish made tractor fuel pump for $66. Found the exact same pump for $33 - from the same seller.

I look at it in a different way...
I know tools, after 50 plus years if I ever fail it would be to Alzheimer's.

Now take for example if i had to buy something for my wife and I saw a nice-looking dress and the seller wanted several hundred dollars for it, who am I to say how much it is worth? Hell, I have not the first clue as to what is a good price or even a name to look for? In other words, I am clueless as they say. Oh, sure I could do some kind of search, but it might take some time.

So, going back to the typical non tool person they have no clue either. $30.00 might just sound like a bargain for their loving soul mate that needs a wrench.

Again, just my two cents...

Oddly enough, Craftsman is becoming quite collectible, with a pretty decent value increase attached.

I have been selling off my Craftsman stuff as I upgrade, and have been pleasantly surprised with the prices it’s been bringing.

That wrench, however, is dumb.

Well, like it or not, some Cman wrenches have become collectible. Here are a few examples. Agreed that engraving them certainly diminishes their value.

I bought a lot of wrenches etc. off of eBay about 20 years ago, dirt cheap.

I am willing to pay a "fair" price, and $30 for that wrench (IMHO) is not a fair price even WITHOUT owner marks !

I agree; the thousands of people who think the item is over priced don't matter. Only the buyer with money who thinks the item is a bargain matters.

Given the number of skip-o-phobes and wrench polishers around here $30 might not be too absurd a number for someone missing that size to complete a "set". Or perhaps it will be used as intended, this is probably half the price of a tool truck version and much vintage C-Man is arguably just as tough. If vintage 16/18 probably didn't see much action.
Don't like the price? Don't buy. Want that item but too much money? Find another. Can't find another? Pay up.

20 years ago a lot of things were cheaper. New Craftsman in the store was still US made and this wrench could certainly have been had for well under $30. Owner's marks don't diminish the usefulness of the tool, only value to collectors. Your objection to the owner's marks leads me to think you may want it for a collection.

I mean it's a 12 point so it's worthless regardless of the brand.

Oh man! I just got these in a craftsman rolling box for $30 at an estate sale. I had never seen a whole set. I have a lined milk crate full of antique and vintage Allen keys but this was a first haha.

Nobody thought any of the now collectable brands were going to be collectable at the time.
For sure, then they were inexpensive tools, people used.

They are collectible (and expensive) today, because of our infatuation with old school Sears.

Seems doubtful the next (and subsequent) generation(s) will care at all.

Why would they?

Sears/Craftsman also offered a four piece DBE Whitworth set in a green plastic pouch.….they’re also collectible.

I love the word vintage on those sales. To me vintage is 1950's or older. I see so much with vintage on it and I go I think I got that in the store last year I really do not think of it as vintage. My daughters idea of vintage is pre-2000. Then the seller not understanding that you need to keep both the wrench and the pouch or box it came in together for top price. That is the nice thing on a couple shown above.

Still this happens in other collector fields. I have some old farm toys. In multiple cases the box cost me more than the toy. Toy without box $100 Toy with box $500.

People forget that Craftsman was to Sears what Hart is to Walmart.

It never was special, it was just readily available and inexpensive because there was a Sears store in almost every town.

Tools in pouch/box from 1930s-80s is always a cool find for me. I always try for pre-barcode. I have some channel locks and a couple bits that came with packages waiting to be cleaned.

Good Craftsman tools decent money if you have a matching set in the same finish. I have a lot and they always sell pretty well when I complete a set.

I am not talking Snap On money, but I sold a complete -V- metric wrench set for $50. 8-22mm combo's.

Some other things sell very well. Like the chain wrench or the RHFT ratchets.

Most antique dealers consider vintage to mean 40 years or more. Antique is 100 years. But there is no official definition.

I saw a set of Craftsman socket wrenches for sale on Facebook Marketplace. I really wanted them until I saw the price. They were twice as much as buying new Facom who I believe made them for Craftsman.

True. I have to laugh when I see certain record albums being re-released when I used to see them lingering in the discount bins back in the day.

So what you are saying is that you a really out of the loop on the current market of Craftsman USA tools?
Well, no I don't "monitor" it on a daily basis !

I have a couple of spare Craftsman combination wrenches (15mm and 16mm; don't ask why I have them, I don't know !). Forged in USA. I don't think I could get more than $5/ea on eBay after shipping. Not worth my hassle.
