Just picked up a 397.19340 1/2HP grinder. I purchased a Weiler 02325 6" wire wheel. It fits over the shaft but with the spacer, it sticks out past the body. Is this a aftermarket spacer?

the norton wheel that was on it:
NORTON 7 X 1/2 X 1-1/4 32A46-KVBE ME13717 TYPE 12 DISH WHEEL

What are my options to fit this wire wheel on?

I do see 1-1/4 arbor hole items but haven seen a 6" version

That looks like it is a v belt sheave or pulley. Wonder if someone was using it as a bushing to get up to that 1-1/4” arbor on the old wheel.

Looks like you are missing the internal flange washer to hold your wheel in place.

Yea, I saw a pic of an old grinder when I was researching, and it looked like that piece. There is a hole with threads on it (only see on the inside where it meets the shaft, must have been welded over?) For what I think is a grub screw to hold it in place. Hmmm

What would I be looking for to get it back to original?

Googling

Bench grinder flange washer

Or maybe arbor washer

brings up lots of results for stamped pieces. Obviously you will want to match you shafts OD. You will also need the appropriate nut, and that may be left handed threads.

I found a pack of ten nicely machined flanges a few years back, for a reasonable price, seem much better than the cheap stamped ones.

Yup, so looks like it's just the same piece as the exterior washer the nut goes against. I put that washer on the inside and it worked, but need a little more space between the body and wheel.
Yup, got the nut already.

That wash is the same size as the indent on the wheel, so it doesn't sit flush in the indent but right over it. I don't like that. Guess I can just get a spacer. But rather not20231011_105526.jpg

I usually use a spacer so that I can get the wire wheel centered in the guard so it does not rub. Should have a wheel flange on both sides also. Hope you got a good wire wheel and it does not vibrate...

I got a Weiler. Read it as a reputable brand. What are the chances it's out of balance? Found an Etsy seller from Ukraine that makes flanges. They sell one with a sleeve so I you don't need to use the nylon washer. Going to ask for a flange with OD 55mm so it can fit inside that indent

you could get a second nut for the inside, or a flange with more offset, rather than a simple spacer.

Yup, going to need to order at least 1flange for the inside. I want to get a flange with a collar so I don't need the nylon spacer to go from 5/8 to 1/2

Anyone have a weiler wire wheel? I don't know if this is a fake 02325 or not, since pics show more wording, like made in usa. Purchased on amazon. Thoughts? Also it's rusting already? It's been sitting on my desk20231016_154022.jpg

That pulley sheave would be better than a standard flange as it has some length to keep it true on the shaft. Many of the best vintage bench grinders, like Delta-Rockwell, Wissotta, and Kingston-Conley, made their flanges like that. If the ID matches the arbor diameter I don't see any reason not to use it for a wire wheel.
