Gear Wrench 120xp same as Sata 120?

Hopefully this isn't a repost! I noticed amazon is selling the GW 120xp 3pc set for $85. It looks like they are selling a Sata tools 120 tooth 3pc set for $65. Has anybody gotten their hands on the Sata? Both are made overseas (Taiwan, I assume) by Apex so I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same. Looking for a little confirmation.

if it was me and i needed new ratchets that 28 dollar set is the one i would get. 72 teeth is plenty for most things and that single pawl design is rock solid with little backdrag,. not a big fan of the 120 action, too much drag and little if any benefit. the single pawl danaher style with 60-88 clicks is my ratchet sweet spot.

I think you'll find that the SATA 120xp and anything branded SATA is made in the PRC whereas, the Gearwrench 120xp line was made in Taiwan.
SATA is also where all of your PRC made Gearwrench comes from.

The 120 tooth tech ratchets all come from Taiwan whereas the QR are from China, pretty much Husky clones. Hence the large gappage in cost.

Makes sense considering the Taiwanese aren't under communist wage fixing and thankfully are a democracy.

Looks like SATA is Apex tool group's manufacturing division with large operations in China and an office in Singapore. Their distribution network covers Asia, eastern Europe, and South America. I highly doubt Apex tool group is going to warranty SATA tools in the US.

The 84T gearwrench is far better head and gear design.
another option look at is the capri 3pc set currently with a 15bucks off, the 72T but a good single pawl design and good swivel tension design .
The double stacked pawl design of 120 xp is troublesome, higher back drag and large heads .

That was my understanding, more SATA stuff is showing up on amazon. Looks like husky and gearwrench mix, which fits the APEX ownership.

I got some indexing prybars from them, 30 bucks vs. 40 from gearwrench.

I actually warranteed a sata ratchet. (the snap ring holding the guts in broke and it fell apart. Some of the little pieces disappeared into the ether. This is not a failure I've ever seen before on a ratchet). I sent them pictures, through the contact form on the website. some time later (weeks, but not a month) UPS brought me a replacement. No communication, just a replacement. I have the 1/4 and 3/8 drive ones in my bag of tools I take somewhere where they might get lost. they work fine, no real complaints.

I've never had one and I like the concept so I bought the cheap ones to see if I even use them. And today it happened. I used the large one. This is my only Sata purchse thus far and it seems to be a thumbs-up at this point.

The SATA and Gearwrench ratchets seem to be identical except for the color of the plating. SATA is what I call gun metal color and is limited to fixed head. I’ve had good luck with SATA branded APEX products and saved money. Their ratcheting tap wrenches, and sockets have been much lower cost sometimes, depending on how they’re distributed, with the same level of finish and tolerances as far as I can tell. Apex claims to manufacture over a million sockets a day. They seem to be pretty good at it.

Apex owns sata and gearwrench. Its the same ratchet and even made in taiwan just like the gearwrench. Some of sata's products are worse than gearwrench. Then again gearwrench isn't what it used to be either. They switched a lot of production to china and quality has gone down big time. Boy this is an old thread btw.
