This table saw is up for auction and it has some issues.
The good - seems to be new, comes with Biesemeyer Fence system

The bad, was damaged in shipping (dropped?) the adjustment wheels are broken, one seems salvageable the other is toast and the top is rusted.

Would you bid on this and if so, how high would you go?

Around here, CL has them $750-$1000, with no shown issues. Really depends if you can get parts, but I probably would stop at ~$500, depending on the drive to fetch it.

The last thing you want is a table saw that is difficult to align or won't hold alignment. Piece of mind is worth extra $$ imho.
That had ran through my
Mind. If it took a big drop, would it be tweaked everywhere and have alignment issues.

Depending on Horsepower 800 max max may be missing part of the top.

eta and they don't ship them with the hand shaft installed in the wheel. So it would have been assembled then dropped

My low bid would be what i estimated, the Scrap Value to be, then after a visual examination consider the value of the accessories and electrical parts.

Broken wheel and switch is pretty cheap to replace - in fact FOR ME, as long as the switch worked, I wouldn't even replace it and just rebend it. I wouldn't care about the scratches myself if the price is right. Since it looks like the top was bolted to the housing at the time, it MAY be good - but unless there's a way to check the trunion and carriage to see if it warped/bent, it's a little risky even if the chances of damage are modest.

I'd probably go as high as $400 myself.

After thinking about it more, I raise my max to $600 considering it's unused. I really don't think there would be any damage that would cause it to be unalignable or in need of extensive fixes/replacement parts. Plus with the Delta saws, you would likely be able to scarf parts from older models (to a point).

Thanks, I just checked and the bidding activity started moving again. We will see how it ends up!

Thanks everyone, I stopped bidding at $605
It went for $765 Plus 13% bidders fee and tax. So almost 20% in fees for about $920
No idea what the saw was worth, but I've seen some stuff in my local auctions go for damn near new when you figure that 20% in fees and tax. I think some people forget about them. 😂

New it is $3k plus. People definitely forget the fees, had a buddy get burned big time.

This one had some issues that without being tested, made it hard to bid more.

With a $400 Biesemeyer, its a steal.
If you are paying retail, I've bought a complete new takeoff setup for $200 with the 8' rails.

The unknown condition of the saw was the issue, at $920 as the final out the door price I wouldn't call it a steal. Especially if any Delta specific parts are required, could get stupid expensive real quick. That is if the thing hasn't been tweaked so bad it wont function properly.

I have a Biesemeyer in my garage that is unused - it has a slight bow in the center (on one side - ie. the fence isn't bent). I always debated about doing something (like shimming the sacrificial 'cover'), but never got around to it because I've been using another similar design fence (Delta) with no problem. Granted though, it's definitely not as heavily built as the Biesemeyer, but it's been fine for me.

A friend of mine also bought a Biesemeyer and was wondering why he was getting burns on his cuts. That was before I got mine and realized what my problem was. We checked his, and sure enough, there was the same bow in his too.

In his case, he didn't want to go back to his old fence, and it would have been a pain to take everything off and return, so we just shimmed the bow out and he was satisfied.

Not saying Biesemeyer ***** - they are VERY well made and really beefy with no deflection, but two out of two known samples with the same issue was enough for me (and my friend) to not consider Biesemeyer in the future.

Yeah - at that price (total), I would have passed. I've seen better deals with less risk on Craigslist.
