Garden Hose Replacement on Retractable Reel

I need a new hose reel as my wall mounted unit is starting to crack at the mounting points. I have a 5/8" Flexzilla Hose installed on it. I wanted to switch to a rectractable reel such as the one from Giraffe Tools on Amazon. I was also looking at the Flexzilla Pro Rectractable Reel but it's only available with a 1/2" hose.

Are you able to replace the hoses on these reels? My initial thought was to get one of the Giraffe Reels that come with a 5/8 Hose and swap in the Flexzilla one I have. I don't want to disassemble a new reel and wreck it by trying to swap out the hose.

Giraffe is a cheap ****, I would stay as far away from that as possible.

I have an Eley hose reel and wouldn't buy anything else.

Well the price sure isn't cheap for the Giraffe. Over CDN $300 for 5/8 x 90 feet. Lots of people rave about them.

Eley only has manual reels so that's a non-starter for me.

I don't have Giraffe, but I do have a Legacy retractable reel which is the same as many of the other branded reels.
The reel is good, but the hose is 1/2" and junk. I replaced it with a cheap hose from walmart which also ***** but it does work. I attempted to go to 5/8" but the capacity was reduced too much for my application

How did you go about replacing the hose? Did you pull it out as far possible before opening the case or did you open it and uncoil the hose manually?

I recently bought a Gardena reel and it seems very well made. I think engineered in Germany and made in Sweden. Wasn't very expensive, about $125, but only had a 1/2" x 50' hose. Best feature are the quick connects that work like air hose connectors: you can swap out attachments without turning off the water.

I have sprinklers and nozzles from Gardena. They're pretty good. I don't like their plastic QD's though. They feel cheap to me. I picked up a bunch of brass QD's from Lowes a while back (Ray Padula or something) and they're pretty good.

I love my Flexzilla 5/8" hose and want to keep using it hence the reason for trying to figure out how to swap it onto a reel.

I also have an Aqua-Winder hose reel that I bought for $2 at a garage sale 5 years ago. It still works fine with 100' of Flexilla 5/8" hose and I leave it out during the Chicago winters (disconnected from the faucet). It uses water pressure to wind the reel. Not as high-tech as some of the more modern stuff, but my wife loves how it effortlessly drags the hose across the lawn and back into the reel.
