When I left the house this morning, my stairs were slick. It is about 35 degrees here, so not totally freezing yet. The weather is supposed to be chilly this week, but it looks like it warms back up a bit next week, Who knows, certainly not the weather guessers...

We had almost 80 on Saturday, then Sunday morning it was snowing where I picked up the BFF. This morning it is cold enough that the water I dumped everywhere trying to uncover the little roller has frozen again. Unfortunately the majority of it went on me, so now my pants are all damp. Didn't soak through everywhere, I was quick to brush it off, still makes a cold morning even colder feeling. Before that I filled a new boat gas tank, forgot that the fuel line port isn't truly plugged and ended up with gas all over the place, have a fan going in the back of the Blurb trying to get the fumes out. I think it will be OK in an hour or so. At least I hope so, it is too cold to drive with the windows down and the defroster is still acting out, so I hardly have any airflow. :(

We are almost identical K, I don’t think we are supposed to get above mid 40s until Saturday. At least it doesn’t look like we have any precipitation coming.

Smart to be ready, going through a cold snap without power can be a real problem for most people.

The small roller left with its new owner this morning. I got $800 without touching anything on it. If I had more space and time, I know I could have gotten more in the spring, but I am happy to see it gone. The fact that I paid $100 for it makes it sweeter too.

I did a quick look at the military tires on the Hyster P60, they look decent, the offset won’t be obscene but it will be a bit wider. I am going to look at the other rims I have and see how the offset looks with those before I make up my mind.

Helped my Cousin pick up a car he had repaired, on the way up there the ramp truck started randomly making a type of belt/bearing noise that would come and go depending on the bumps in the road. Didn’t seem to matter if you were going fast or slow, then the one time it lasted long enough to pull over, as soon as I opened the door it stopped. Made it 150 miles without breaking down, but I totally expected something to seize up or let go completely. I pulled the belt off and it didn’t seem to be the alternator, I don’t have time to dig into it further, maybe Friday. I wish I could replicate the circumstances to make the noise while I am under the hood, very frustrating. :(

Like I said, only had time for a quick look, I used a ratchet to loosen the tensioner and it felt solid. It was definitely coming from the drivers side, that really means power steering or alternator. I may have to drive it until it does it consistently, IDK.

I went down a rabbit hole on the internet this morning. I am supposed to be getting ready for the electrician, I guess I need to start that now. We are adding more outside lights to the shop at the Hill, should help with the work area as well as the stairs to the office and parking area. I wanted to use some wireless switches for the inside, but it appears that I didn't look at things all too well, the receiver/relay is only rated for 5 amps, I have to order the 20 amp version separately. Oh well, just another delay, another thing to order, seems to work out this way more often than I would like.

Yesterday I got to test fire the furnace at the Salvage Garage, it worked fine, this morning I did the same at the Hill with the clean burn waste oil furnace, it took some effort to get it fired, but it is doing its thing now. I guess I will have to go over to the house next and make sure that is functioning, don't want Chuck to catch a cold...

How many lights you want to control, Take a few LEDs to over shoot 5 amps although 20 amp would probably last longer before it cooks

I am going to order two of the 20 amp relays, that will cover all the lights in the shop. We should have all the new exterior lights hooked up except one, I want to see the other lights in the dark before placing the last one, don't want a huge overlap for no reason. We also got one extra set of outlets installed so I don't need to run an extension cord over to the grinders anymore. Then we swapped two of the overhead lights out as well, I depending on how things go, I may just swap all the lights out that I can, it would be nice to have new light, the existing ones are pretty much on their last legs.

On top of that, the internet is now with Fidium instead of Spectrum, so now I have great download and upload speeds, in fact the upload speed was faster than the download speed. I have been waiting for that for a while, tomorrow I have to meet them at my house and get that swapped over as well. I can't wait to get rid of the spectrum equipment and crappy upload speeds.

I knew this would happen, now that we swapped a couple lights out, they all need to be done. Luckily I have enough in stock to do exactly that. Tomorrow might be a bit different than expected, but things will get done and it will be worth the effort for sure.

On top of all my messes, the results from my ultrasound came back (luckily I am not pregnant), I have an abdominal hernia, I kind of figured that was the issue, now it is confirmed. It doesn't hurt and everyone keeps expecting it to, so my guess is it is a decent hernia. I have been dealing with it since just before vitamin C started wreaking havoc on planet normal. They want me to see the surgeon, I told them that is fine, but there is no way I am doing the surgery until I have a solid plan for recovery. I can't afford to be down and out all winter, not that it wouldn't be nice, but I just can't do it.

Fidium isn’t on my road yet, I applied and they said they have no immediate plans to make it available here so get your friends to apply. Stuck with spectrum which only came online 3 or 4 years ago

Found a circuit at the house on the Hill that had a loose and burnt neutral, breaker was damaged too. Fixed and replaced as needed. We spent a good hour tracing all the circuits to figure out what stays and what goes, looks like the best solution is going to be to run a 60 amp sub panel from the new panel right where the old panel is currently. This is about as easy a temporary solution as we can come up with and all the circuits that are staying pull a combined 40 amps (we tested things fully loaded with amp meter).

All the lights in the shop at the Hill have been replaced, still need to work on the switches, but having the new lights is very motivating. I am going to try and cancel my internet accounts with Spectrum, then call it a day, it has already been a long week and I still have a few more long days to go before it is truly over. :(

Spectrum tells me that they are going to charge me for a full month of internet because my billing date was yesterday, no prorated amount at all. I am definitely going to be adding a nice complaint with the attorney general. These guys prorate our bill when we have a service interruption for 24 hours, but they don’t when you turn in the equipment and cancel service? I have a couple more accounts to deal with, unfortunately there will still be a couple I can’t get rid of, but all my personal ones are gone!

You should pretty much be back to normal from an abdominal hernia in about a month. The surgeon will likely want you off work for two weeks, or maybe more. No lifting over 20 pounds for probably a month.

I went through this maybe six years ago. I work an office job so two weeks off work. More physical work may be off longer.

I took a bit of a lazy morning, still not completely ready to go, I needed it. Today has help, but not until afternoon, my plan is to try and clear the lift bay out so I can get the Blurb on the lift. There is a new issue, either the trans or the rear end is making noise, seems more like the rear end to me, hopefully we can figure it out today. Also need the long tilt trailer back together, I plan on using it to haul some boxes to the scrap yard.

Need to be ready for Sunday as well, going to get the tall mast Hyster H130 forklift. I hope to only make one trip, but it may end up being two if for some reason I can’t load the mast safely with the forklift. I also need to get some more things listed on marketplace, the roller took a little over a week to sell, would be nice to turn junk into wallet expanders.

I wonder who would buy it?

That is the one truck that I need come spring time, I have a plan to build a different truck that may make that one replaceable, but I have no idea how many years that will take to get to. ;)

Should I duck??

I am just getting started cleaning up the lift bay at the Hill, but I can see I am going to have to also clean up the other bay, it is just a terrible mess all around. I think I need to spend Saturday cleaning at the Hill as well, I am bringing the tall mast forklift back to the Hill so I can swap the mast around from the twin forklift. Of course I need to get the side shift functioning before swapping the mast, just another thing to do, what is one more in a sea of chaos...

I think we all need to do the same thing, but just don't want to admit it.

The trailer hubs are all off, have to go and grab some new bolts for the brakes to bolt to the spindle. seals are going, but all I had was drivers that were too large, so we are using the hack method with a piece of aluminum stock. All the brake drums look like they are new, fitting the previous owner's story that the trailer was rebuilt completely, then moth balled, last registration was 2016 I think. Tomorrow I will have to wire up Perk for the electric brakes, but the controller is already installed.

Just finished up getting the brake drum/hub assemblies back on, I have to add some gear oil and hook up the brakes, should be able to do that tomorrow when I am dealing with Perk’s trailer brake setup.

Now that it is dark, I can see that I need one more light on the back of the shop and then I will have full coverage. Getting closer and closer every time we do something. I suspect that tomorrow will be a fairly long day, Sunday will most likely be worse depends on how the mast removal goes.

On a bad note , pretty sure the Blurb needs a transmission, going to have to make some decisions moving forward, I am not sure I want to do that right this minute. I may put a hold on diesel burbs for now and fix one of the gas half ton ones. Either way the quickest fix is to get the Volvo running and see if that engine survived my GF running it too low on oil, twice. :(

As of late, the problem is having time to do what needs to be done around the place. Work seems to be playing hell with getting work done around the place.... retirement in ?? months? Maybe....
The trouble is by retirement, it takes you all day to do what used to take you a couple of hours. 😫

How long did the Volvo run with low oil? Unless it was bone dry and actually locked up, I would fill it will oil and run it. You may not get the full run of miles compared to an unmolested engine, but I would venture it will get you from point A to point b for a fair while.

Granted, there may be some piston skirt scratches and maybe the bearings are less than stellar.... I'd fill it with cheap oil, run it for a few hours, maybe 10 to 20 hours and then do another oil change. Could send that oil sample for analysis if you were really interested. Oil analysis kits are $25. We do them on every oil change on the airplane. It's an easy way to keep an eye on the health of the engine.

As an aside note. Back in college, they would sell tickets to see how long a car would run with no oil. They would drain the oil out right there in front of the crowd, run it wide open until it stopped running. Typically it would get hot, lots of smoke, then rpm starts to drop off as things really get warm, then it would eventually seize up.
It would usually take a good 30 minutes of run time at wide open!! After it cooled off, they would dump the oil back in, start it up and drive it away..... ready for the next event...
