Long time reader, first time build tread writer. I wish I had the writing and picture skills of some of these other builds (Gregor haha). My wife (after June) and I started our build this spring and it’s still going. We both like and have 70s ford trucks some running some works in progress. So we need a space for that with a 2 post lift ( not getting any younger). We also have freinds with similar hobbies but none of them have good spaces to hang out in so we will have that too. Our shop is sunk into the hill so we decided to make it with logix ICF. 12ft tall with vaulted ceilings. It is 36 by 60. 70527903740__0D91BE7D-C34E-41BF-B2F2-1EFF043D7F7B.jpeg
May 8 2023 armed with my father in laws s590 bobcat I started digging…. It’s like bringing a shovel to a gravel pit

May 9th I found the limit of the s590 and had to call the neighbor with a gaint tracked unit to move a gaint rock. My neighbor to the north is a rock quarry. IMG_4333.jpeg
The supervisor was there to make sure it all went well

A few days later we trenched in water and sewer. Part of the entertainment area we needed a full bath, and since we race mud trucks, a shower and washer and dryer…..

During this I learned expensive lessons on dry ground and it’s strength, had me asking if all this is worth being able to poop in the shop….

Around this time, I discover that the John Deere 140 lawn tractor that I had to have ( thought I was going to mow around the house with) is great as a mobile tool box, load the trailer up and drive it in and out of the attached garage.
Beets taking 30min to get out and put away tools

Looks like a great start. Sorry, about the rental tool crash. How did you get it out and how much damage was there??
Are you getting concrete before the winter or do you still have more to post??

I hooked it onto the mighty s590 and my 79 f150 mud truck and pulled plus used the arm and bucket as a counter weight

Update as of yesterday most of the roof is on (most because our lumber yard person must not know how to do math) man doors and windows are in. Power is trenched in, and my Amazon string lights are ran so we can work on garage doors after work ( stupid daylight savings time)

So I've heard a bit about mud trucks but haven't seen any evidence so far :dunno:

That'll be a really nice space when you get it "done" ! If it's like my shop it'll never truly be done but once it gets useable and you move your stuff in it'll be a sweet space !!

How ya planning heating it ? You're practically in the deep south so maybe just open the door and let the heat in once in a while :lol_hitti

Having a FIL with equipment is a nice perk !! Don't feel to bad about trenching that Kubota. I've got a couple thousand hours in excavators from my Bobcat 331E up to a Cat 336 and it's bonkers how easy it is to get in a tough spot if you're not careful. They're crazy powerful machines and sometimes you get a little too comfortable and it lets you know !!

I will definitely be following along with your progress !!

Haha the Deep South…. We are planning on using forced air like the house so we can ac it too since we are in the Deep South…. Lol
The worst part about throwing the kubota in the ditch is I was moving it to not do that when it happened….
As for the the southern Mn mud drag truck here she is

Small update, pics to follow got ceiling insulation in and the end walls above the icf ls insulated. Hope to start hanging ceiling tin this weekend but the holiday may change that plan. I would love to get the ceiling done and have working garage doors. They are saying rain all weekend so that’s going to add a challenge as it’s all dirt around the project. December in Mn it’s supposed to be frozen but this warm weather has been great

It sure is strange walking outside in a single sweatshirt and regular tennis shoes in o do stuff in late December. I like it but it’s strange.

Last night I filled the outdoor boiler in shorts and flip flops with a jacket on. Biggest issue I had was almost slipping on the muddy grass lol. Bonkers weather !

Shed is looking amazing !!!!!

Quick update from the weekend, feels like progress is going super slow lately. But I am learning how to do most of this on the fly.
IMG_5061.jpeg
Started hanging the trendy black ceiling this weekend, and I like it a lot, with the high bay leds it don’t effect lighting much so far
IMG_5062.jpeg
IMG_5063.jpeg
Finally have a working garage door in time for it to get cold outside
