How does Tekton warranty discontinued items?

Got an email this morning about the Tekton outlet site. There a couple ratchets I might like to try that they've dropped from their lineup.

Question is, are they warranteed at all? I didn't see it mentioned. They can't hardly replace them if they no longer have them made.

Sometimes just because they don't sell it anymore doesn't mean they don't have any. I got a replacement socket once because I lost one out of a set. 1/2" 12 point impacts. I was just going to buy one but they weren't for sale anymore so I contacted them off their page and they mailed me one.

Sort of like the Jonsered 046sp (?) chainsaw piston I got many years ago.

The piston was discontinued, with none in the system. Mahle was a vendor of diesel pistons for us, so I asked the rep to see what he could find. About a month later he returned from Stuttgart with a piston. He asked around in Product Engineering and, lo and behold, one of the engineers had a brand new piston for my saw sitting on the corner of his desk.

still have the saw, although I haven’t fired it up for years. It was a good firewood saw in its day.

Same here on credit or the current. I will say the nice part was the gave me a credit of the similar current tool instead of what I originally paid for it! When it comes to warranty, not many companies can beat Tekton!

Snap-on does the same thing. I wanted to warranty a 3/8” drive quick release and got a 80 tooth back from the dealer. Nice ratchet, but I miss the quick release feature of the old one.

Did they discontinue the quick release model you had?

I don’t remember, specifically. It was a 3/8” drive common ratchet I bought new in the late 1970s, so whatever they made then. The dealer that exchanged it said they no longer made quick release. He had no problem exchanging it for the 80 tooth, extolling the virtues of it over the older ratchet. At the time I did not have a Snap-on guy, so ran one down to get the ratchet repaired. It had started skipping occasionally. I had had a 1/2” drive quick release also that got stolen.

That *****. He might not have had one in stock. 10 years ago they definitely had the FR80. I bought mine about 11-12 years ago.

The 830 series from the 80s/90s possibly didn't have QR. But the 710 from the 70s, 720 from the 70s/80s, and the 936 from the 90s all had QR.

F713, F723, FR936, FR80 are the respective QR models.

You know your stuff! To me, it was just a quick release. I liked it, and I like that feature. I have a Craftsman in 1/2”drive now that’s pretty good, but haven’t had a 3/8” drive since then. I had tools stolen while on a road call back in 1983, second theft, so quit buying much Snap-on subsequently.

Just to follow-up. Got these three ratchets for $38 after discount. I've never had a roto-head ratchet and wanted to try in 1/4". For the price just got them all.

Then I got this discontinued 1/4" socket set for $60 after discount. The only differences between this one and the one they currently sell is; new one has 15mm sockets, the spinner handle is different and the bit holder is magnetic. Of that, the magnetic bit holder was the only thing I thought I cared about, so I sprung five bucks for one of those separately.

I don't know about discontinued items, but the few times I have had to contact Tekton for parts, they were very easy to work with.
