that's what I thought when buying it a while back, has the look, but P Wright's big thing (until v late years) was wrought iron and this is all cast (except screw, nut and jaws).Dannyr: Your vise has hints of a Peter Wright vise. Nothing exact, for sure.

I really like that green Craftsman back there.
Amazing detective work! Thank you for posting that.DrFeelGood: Western Auto had vises in their catalogs at least as far back as 1924. In that catalog there was a common garage type vise and a Millers Falls oval slide clamp-on vise. In 1927 there was a garage vise and a clamp--on that looks like a Victor. The same two vises were offered in 1930. In Spring 1932 Western Auto only offered a Columbian common garage type vise. By fall 1932 there were two sizes of garage vises and a new clamp-on that looks like a Stanley. By 1952 Western Auto was back to only having a common garage vise.
However, in 1957 there was a two bar bench vise, yet another kind of clamp-on, a Versa-Vise, and.............
a WIZARD 4H4836!

Thanks for the info. I notice yours has 140 stamped on the bottom and mine doesn't. Any particular reason why?I restored a 140 for a guy some time ago- he didn't want the swivel base and it's still laying in my shop with the bolts it came with. Previous owner just had a 3/4"-10 x 1-1/2" hex bolt and flat washer in it. The correct bolt would likely have a 1" dia. shoulder about 5/8" long...
Try here, great seller and member hereAnyone have the outer swivel base ring for a 1982 Wilton C3 . What other vises would have this same outer ring?
I can spot the clamping wing nut and washer pretty much copied from the Record Auto-vise (all steel model)tell me if these strange limey vices are boring you, but I'm on a roll in the refurb shop (wife's greenhouse) and here's another - due to replace my Record 74 (fine, but quite common here - I like rarities)
Usually the vise part of a multi purpose tool is a disappointment, but this works for me - solid, medium sized, with usable anvil:-
can you spot the vise in there??
The only part I'd really like is the pipe jaw inserts, but could make this.

There is a clear 53 stamped in the bottom of the woden. Im ASSUMING that is the date but maybe someone more knowledgeable could chime in if they know otherwise. adding a pic of it compared to my record no. 1 just for fun. The no. 1 has a swivel base which I thought was cool for such a small vise. I'd be interested to know if anyone has an idea on the age of that one too.Josh91RY, could you post a picture of the date marking on your Woden? That is more hilarious than a record 1 and a paramo 6!

Jaw width is 2 1/4 inch. Im not sure what I'm going to use it for other than garage jewelry at the momentJosh what is the jaw width on your B/00 Woden?Very clean for its age. Nice looking vice.
most UK bench vice/vise makers (several of them) used standard jaw widths, but sometimes variations in naming -- the 00 (sometimes called 0A) was usually 2.25ins, - the 0 size was 2.5ins.Josh what is the jaw width on your B/00 Woden?Very clean for its age. Nice looking vice.
Wow, it's crazy that was just posted within the last week. I'm new here, but I love the endless vat of knowledge. Thanks for the link! There is a current thread in the vintage section discussing the time frame of the Woden vise model numbers here. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/dating-of-woden-vice.525041/
There are several catalogues linked there including both a 52' cat and a 56'. Both catalogues bracketing 1953 as well as a few earlier and later show the 186B/** numbering system for these Woden vices rather that the B/** numbers. The question of that thread is just when were the B/** model vises made? I think the dates are still in doubt but would love to see a catalogue showing the B/** numbered vises.
Green Bay Vocational School 4" jaws, opens 5-1/2", 32lbs, stationary, stationary, replaceableSome vocational school vises for the spreadsheet....
Michigan State Board of Control for Vocational Education 4" jaws, opens 5-3/4", 47lbs, stationary, stationary, replaceableSome vocational school vises for the spreadsheet....
no its not the date, Woden didn't stamp them unlike usa made vices, its either a part number of assembly numberThere is a clear 53 stamped in the bottom of the woden. Desmond Stephan Utility vise. From 3" jaw width up to 5 inch. Swivel base. Here is a catalog page of it from 1952. I have a couple. Nice....not big. Photo of the other side will give you the model number (jaw width) etc. This is for sale locally. I'm not familiar with vise brands but it's for sale for $45.00. No other photo's in the listing.
I like a naked vise, paint is overrated!I sold my AS 79 and Wilton HD users, so i pulled a Fulton 28 off the shelf and built a stand for it. I don't think i will ever sell the Vise thought.
I think I’ve painted 1 Vise in my time, for me its WD40, BLO, and Gold raised letters.I like a naked vise, paint is overrated!
I would assume it has to do with the quick release mechanism. Can you see if the half nut is engaged without the other missing parts or is it even there?I just bought this 3.5" Grand Vise Master for $15. It's in decent shape but but it's missing the quick release trigger, the spring, and I am not sure what else is missing as there is nothing to hold the jaw from moving. Can anybody help me out?
