I have no interest in router bits, but followed a deal thread link to amazon anyway and started poking around, ended up doing a 3 hour, 150 page browse from low to high of items in tools and home 70% off or more and free shipping. That $25 free shipping gets me into more trouble.

100 items ended up in my cart, total shipped $84.

From 16 to 40 cents or so there were a bunch of 25 to 50 packs of nylon screws, which I have no idea what I will do with, but in a week I will have them.

PB Swiss had a number of screwdriver type things, several with wrong pictures, and I ordered about a dozen replacement plastic heads for a hammer I don't own. (yet).

Beta bit sockets, but I didn't buy any.

Some Wera and Wiha bits and drivers.

Lots of number sized drill bits, like $2 to $4 for 10 or 12 bits, showing close to 90% off regular prices. (not my thing, just passing it on)

Lots of router stuff still, saw a lot of Freud items, but I'm not into it.

With exactly 100 items in my cart, amazon reacted slower than normal. Took like a full minute to select the free type of ground shipping. I carefully looked over my whole order, well I did double check a couple items, clicked on place order and Amazon glitches and says sorry please press back and try again.

Cart is empty. 3 hours of clicking through 150 pages of items, and cart is empty. Had an email waiting for me though, despite the error message the full order was placed. Now I just hope it doesn't show up in a 100 boxes.

Your UPS driver is paid on a formula based on package count, so at least one of you will be happy if they do ship 100 count!

How do you perform a search on Amazon for hand tools that are 70% off in the "Tools & Home Improvement" section?

I check the above links frequently (bookmarked them) and then from there I will then check the 50%+ and 25%+ sale links from the left hand side of the search results. The product selection changes fairly regularly.

Tip: just going on Amazon and clicking "70% off or more" is a waste of time. It will lead to nearly 20,000 items "on sale", most of which are full price but with highly inflated and/or inaccurate list prices. Conduct a search for something specific (say, PB Swiss Tools), and then click on the "70% off or more" link.

Also the Amazon search will show items where "some" vendor has it 70%+ off, but not free shipping, and where "some" vendor who is now out of stock had a low price etc., so many pages will have zero items actually cheap and free shipping.

Haha, Small Parts was my entry as well. BUT, bear in mind that they've since been absorbed into Amazon, so many SP items won't even say "sold by Small Parts" anymore.

At one point I searched for drill bits manually, and got very decent prices. At one point I considered buying a 1-60 wire gauge set bit by bit, but the search results were too convoluted to be worth the time.

Oh really!?! My numbered drill set is missing all over the place, this may be the ticket for me. Can you clue me in on how you searched, did you start with a brand name and then look for the % off, or what ?

@Bolster - do a search and then on the left there should be a section for "discount" where you can pick one to refine the search.

the 70% off is cool but when i'm bottom-feeding for parts, I just enter in a search term, pick 'eligible for free shipping", sort by price and just ignore the discount setting first. this returns the really cheap items; after a couple pages of this, i'll click the discount item and see what's on deep discount....

I just did this. For $25 I was able to complete a mostly missing A-Z set, and a partially missing 1-60 set. Cool. 26 bits of my choosing for $25 and free ship. Thanks . :thumbup:

Brand was Precision Twist. I was assuming offshore, but it's coming up as an Illinois company? USA bits would be too much to ask...

Yep, it was mostly Precision Twist. I would find a style I like, and then search for just those terms. e.g.:

Precision Twist # Jobber Length Drill HSS TiN Coated

Sometimes link-based navigation pops up on the left hand side, but it doesn't always work nicely.

Also, items in "industrial supplies" don't sort according to savings, so I navigate according to price.

Some of the bits are Dormer labeled.

Also, some of these bits have been sitting around for a while. I ordered a G bit last year and received an I. One year later I ordered it again and again received an I. The baggie said G the bit said (and was measured to be) I. I complained and was refunded for one of the bits.

UPS drivers are graded on stops not package counts. There have been days where I had my UPS truck loaded front to back and still was under the company stops. So I actually had to go back to the plant and pick up more packages at lunch. For example if Friedman electrics orders 100 boxes of stuff, it counts the same as if they ordered one box.

Now Loaders, unloaders, sorters (warehouse workers) are graded by packages...

That is a great price! It's for their smallest model, though. I have the #4, and it's also on the small side but comes in handy.

You might want to check on Felo tools at the 70% and below.

The nippers and the two 'Smart' boxes aren't a bad deal. I wish they built a Smart box that was all hex ends, the t-handle is a clever idea.

Hmm. Not how it was described by our career driver when I was working shipping for a Fortune 500.

He said he had a typical package count and was paid on the percentage of that count. Now this was a corporate stop and we were consistently high-volume outbound and inbound, I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

I've never worn the brown so I'll have to trust your experience!

Well, not really. Amazon's pricing is very sophisticated. It seems when a sale item gets some traffic the price goes back up.

These discount premium tools are like crack. When you get the first batch home and start ********* the quality, you start wanting more of it.

I love the quality of these premium tools, the PB Swiss screwdrivers, Wera bits, its a real strain not to just buy and buy. You know that do it once, do it right thing, but you end up with a full set of Torx security bits in reg and extended shanks, and you don't actually use any Torx security bits.

Damn you!! I didnt need a pair of needle noses, but $7 for a pair of kleins was too hard to pass up! Just bought the last one :beer:

EDIT: eh, what the hell. picked up the torx drivers too. Also hard to pass up USA made cushion grip drivers at HF prices! :beer::beer:
