Some old tools I found....

Between my dad's old toolbox, an auction I attended, and some random tools the mother-in-law picked up, I've compiled a few oddball sockets.

I realize most won't be rare/valuable, but even if I learn some origins, age etc. I'll be extremely happy.

Hell, even if someone has been DYING to finish a collection, maybe I'll have the missing socket

Here we go! Not very camera savvy, so I wrote it down beside it in case the flash didn't pick up the engraving.
Dad's toolbox (He's a white collar guy, cut him some slack!)

Mother in law spotted this at a garage sale. (I've always told her to pick me up tools if they're only a few bucks) The set (or partial set) is Taiwan.

Now this socket is partial to me...it's my FIRST, and ONLY Snap-On tool!

Finally, I have a ton of Mustang wrenches, sockets etc. Of course Google didn't come back with any info on them, so I'm sure I'm in the right place!

Oh, there are some good pieces in there. The Bonney and Craftsman ratchets are quite nice, and the Mustang pile is great. A couple people seek out the Mustang tools.

I've never heard of many of these tools.
The Mustang set has a bunch of deep wells as well as standard sockets. I figured I'd gauge their "neat" factor before I post pics/sizes of the sockets

I believe that Mustang was New Britains economy line. Sort of like the Sparta's were NAPA's economy line. They were all made by NB though.

That Plomb/Craftsman ratchet is great! When I first saw it I thought it was 1/2 drive then I realized that it was laying on a post-it note. Rugged!

Might consider it, even though the Mustangs make up a large portion of my 1/2" drive SAE set

I thought Plomb was a completely different company? Could you educate me a little on that?
I'm glad I have something in that pile with a "neat" factor! How will the internals hold up to Vinegar?

Another vulture for the Craftsman stuff since that is what I collect. It looks like 3/8". It is called a U-circle. As far as I'm concerned it was made by Penens, which was owned by Plomb-Proto.

Mustang is a New Britain name. You can find ratchets like your Mustang but as a Husky, which is another New Britain name.

The 3/8" Bonney is a modern ratchet. I have one. It is a quality 2 pawl ratchet, just like the 1/4" version.

I had a Husky ratchet that looked just like this Mustang. Was it N.B. made too?

My Husky 1/2" CS41 looks exactly like that. Only differnece I can see between my Husky and the Mustang is the recess in the handle on the Husky is more shallow.

Anyone have ideas on the era of some of these tools?

Based on just this trademark information, we could roughly estimate production dates of 1927-1933 for the earliest logo examples, 1934-1944 for the underlined logo, and 1945 and later for the "= CRAFTSMAN =" style, with the understanding that the starting date for the third style is uncertain.

OK, Now I'd LOVE to clean up some of these tools (especially the hot topic U-Circle Ratchet).

I've read the Vinegar thread and would like to try that, but there will be no going back with these old tools. Opinions/Suggestions?
