Amazon Hazet Pricing - Updated

Updated: this is now on Amazon US for 137.12. This is a very nicely made and compact set.


We are in Munich waiting for a Christmas Day flight home to Texas (via Denver). I was looking at my Amazon account; I bought this Hazel set for $177.07 in October. It lists for $197.95 now on Amazon US. I googled the set and it shows German Amazon pricing of 111.78 Euros which converts to $123.10. I expected lower prices but not that much. Next trip I’ll have to do some tool shopping.

It's become kind of a game for me to see if I can find something cheaper than Amazon, and I usually can.

Can't you buy it on amazon.de and have it shipped?

I did that with some Stahlwille wrenches last summer because the European pricing was so good. Took about 2 weeks to get here, but otherwise no difference.

You can, but the shipping costs have went up a LOT from what they were back in 2018 last time I ordered from amazon.de.
Back then I paid 4,62 € ($5.57) shipping for a Knipex 00 20 03 V02 (4 piece snap ring pliers set), and the same set they now want $19.79 (17,97 €) just for the shipping. That's up more than 350% just for the shipping on top of the ~30% or so that inflation has added to the same item's sales price.

All that said, the $78.20 total I could get that set for today shipped from Germany's Amazon still quite a savings over the $120 they want ordering it from USA's Amazon.

If you order from Amazon Germany they will take the VAT tax off at checkout for Americans. It's 15% as I recall. So look at the Euro price, then deduct 15% for VAT, then add about 8% for the exchange rate difference to get your USD price.

You will have to sign up for a separate Amazon account for the Germany site, but it is OK to use the same email+password.

Amazon Germany takes all major U.S. credit cards including Apple.

I've found great deals on Knipex, and if you have a Bosch sander (doesn't everyone?) the sandpaper cost from Amazon.de is like a third of the US price (the last time I checked).
