I bought myself a new Metabo Mitter Saw. It is a lovely machine but also a lot bulkier than my old no name one. Any good ideas for storing these? Could be vertical or in a folding way.

I made the following out of scrap wood. Honestly just threw it together because I needed something fast. I'm a little embarrassed to show as I'm capable of much finer work, but it does do what I need.

I had a smaller Craftsman miter saw and needed something bigger for a project, so bought the Dewalt, but it didn't fit on the rolling bench I had made for the Craftsman.

I needed something mobile that would fit under my workbench for storage. Intended to make outriggers for it that fold on the sides, but still haven't gotten around to it. I have roller stands I use for long pieces in the meantime. The casters are retractable. Piano hinge across the back of the saw workspace, old door hinges on the caster mechanism. Everything else is just wood I had lying around

It's not my greatest work, but it is very functional.

Years ago, I ran across a set of GEMTRAC storage units. Typically used to store computer tapes.
Empty weight is a little under 2000# & almost 7ft tall, They have been a godsend for fasteners storage, allowing a quick scan or detailed cataloging. Definitely a pain to move.

putting A lot of sockets into a tiny footprint. Hang it on the wall or just leave it on the bench. I used some old tubing I had laving around and skate board bearings i scrounged up. I’m thinking a conveyor roller would work also. IMG_3721.jpegIMG_3722.jpeg
That looks good.
Are the socket holders bolted directly to the tube?
What's the tube dia.?
Thanks.

I used to see those type of bypass cabinets occasionally in stores. Kind of a PITA but they held a lot of stuff that didn't need a deep space.

This may be the most original socket storage solution I’ve seen! Very clever.

Most of my socket rails are either so tight it’s a pain to get a socket loose, or so loose sockets would fall off as I rotated it..lol

I know I know, I can adjust them, but by the time I’m done using them, I just throw them back in the box.

@Bob Heine says I should post this here.
One of my spray bottles swelled a bit in the heat, and flipped over, spilling Windex on my steel bench. It sat that way for 24 hours, making a huge rusty mess. After I ground the rust off, I decided to solve my bottle problem. Made a sort of towel rack out of old copper pipe to hang them on. No more tippy bottles and more counter space.

not on my walls, but close enough, inside one of my floor cabinets. Now the only thing I need to move is the Cordless worklight to get at a battery or two. I don’t like leaving batteries on the charger when I not out there so easy for me to just swiitch the power bar off.
For some reason I thought that batteries would discharge if left on a powered-down charger. Is this not the case?

I don’t leave batteries charging up if I not in and out of the garage that day, just a good habit I developed from when I started working on cars with my dad.
Same here. All my various chargers are powered up by one long power strip and it is right by the door. If I'm charging batteries I put something in front of the door that I have to move in order to close it and that reminds me to switch the power strip off. Sometimes I can go a week without going into the shop so I don't like the idea of them being on even if there is no battery on a charger.

Interesting. My charger is plugged into a wall outlet. I guess I might plug it into the power strip that's right there by the charger. I had never considered not having it powered all the time.

I have my outlets on a switch. So when I turn off the lights the battery chargers/radio/lights all turn off together.

I'm with Kay. All my chargers are plugged into power strips and the power strips are plugged into timers. My short term memory is as reliable as my forgettery. Plug a battery into the charger, press the 2 hour button and walk away. Only exceptions are the trickle chargers for the vehicles. Those stay powered up 24/7.

I'm the same as Bob & Kay. When anything other than the car batteries are connected to a charger, it's on a timer that turns off after 2 or 4 hours, depending on the battery I'm charging. I try to remember to take the batteries out of dedicated chargers once charged, and unplug those that use USB cables to charge. I have used Battery Saver chargers for all my cars, boats, etc. for nearly 20 years, and they are powered 24/7.

Once again, good advice from the forum. I never leave my charger plugged in, so I just set a mental reminder to unplug if after charging. But since CRS syndrome set in, and with my remembery/forgettery, I decided to order a charger timer.

Just ordered an "Indoor countdown timer", that I plan to plug the charger into. Then when I need to charge, just hit a button for however long I think it needs.

Thanks to all for your great advice all year round, and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

That looks like a pretty handy timer. I added one to my cart while I think about it.

I don't read Braille, but don't all those buttons say the same thing? 🤔

I had the timer in my Amazon cart, but went another direction. I picked up the switch, and a box at Home Depot, added some wire and plugs.

Then it got mounted next to my battery storage and chargers.

You guys either made me waste $70 or saved my house from burning down. Either way, thanks.

Lee, now I feel bad that you could have bought a $70 tool.

I have chargers in a garage cabinet. There was an outlet in there already so I replaced the single box with a double and put a timer like yours in the box. One of the outlets is on all the time and the timer turns on the one with the power strip plugged in.

I know peg board isn’t the most popular here. BUT, with proper framing under 1/4” hole, white coated product, and using good quality hangers, I have great success.
This wall is an arms length from my table saw and drill press and holds many woodworking helpers.

Also, I’m sure I’ve shown this square holder on this board before but don’t remember where.
I copied and expanded this holder from a smaller 3D printed piece that was for sale online.
