I pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago to buy a small budget shop. I really needed a place to just fab on my 29 Pontiac. So I placed a call into Americansteelinc.com and placed an order. Well I got a call on Monday last week for it to be delivered and set up. I am going to frame the rest in and side it to match my shed. It will have a 14 foot garage door installed also on the front with a side access door on the grass side. Its all 2 1/4 galvanized steel tubing with a metal roof. Its 16x24.

I'm going to install one of those on a 20X20 concrete pad that's in the front of my shop.
I need to put a fence around 1/2 of it to help hide my "projects" from the view of the neighbors (mostly my pissy sister-in-law).

I can also store my wood pellets under there and my forklift. I'm widening the concrete sidewalk from my driveway to my kitchen door so I can move a pallet of pellets from storage to my home.

A 20X20 installed is $1195.00... a little more if you want heavier gauge steel...

I see variations of these offered in several places around here... how much was yours... just the basic car port... just wondering how much the prices vary in different locations... been a while since i actually did any pricing, but they used to start around 699 for a small one up to around 1000-1200 for one close to your size

Here is the brochure for any of you that are interested. It lists all the options and all the sizes in both gauges. If you want a custom size like I did you will need to purches the next one up from the size that you want.

I'm actually considering this now. Cost of an 18x21 with 8' high walls and a 10x8 roll up door is only about $600 more than me purchasing all the materials to stick build one on my own that is the same size.

That would be with full walls and all the work done.

What are your plans with the walls?

They showed up at my place last Sat. at 7:30Am and were on the road heading back to their place at 9:30Am. These guys dont mess around.

What are your plans with the walls?

I am going to use T-111 for the walls. With either metal or wood studs.

The only reason for not getting metal walls. Is that my kids are soccer kids. And the ball is always on the move in the yard.

So I could just see all the dents if I had gone that route.

I actually paid for an 18x26 and they just cut it down when they manufactured it.

Plus I wanted to match the shed and color as close as I could. So it would all look the same.

I had to rip all the studs to 2 1/4 inches so that it would all match the metal uprights that supported the roof.
DSC00829.jpg

I then made a top plate to attach all the studs to just at the bottom of the metal roof line.

Then started framing it out.

Then came all the shething for the walls.

I added a 16x7 foot insulated door with a opener and ended up with this.

Nice work, -but I should mention that if you do this again you can buy Simpson A21 angle plates for about $0.39 each. I know making your own is fun also!

Looks like a great use of the space. You may want to just put some type of powered roof vent or gable top vent and use that to help with the heat. Moving the hot air out and getting cooler air in makes a big difference. Also any insulation to prevent the radiated heat from the roof will help substantially.

Nice job on the siding ! I was thinking of getting one of those and doing something similar, but with maybe some 2'' foam on the ceiling.

I am seriously considering a shop from the same company. Did you go with the 12 ga or 14 ga? We get snow here, so I am looking at the 12 ga and an A-frame style roof.
Great ideas for studding it out for the T-111!

I did one of these for a utility building, but put osb on it until I land some more metal from a friend, mostly for looks. It has really paid off for storage, and is already full. I poured a pad and raised the shell on blocks for overhead door clearance, as I already had the building that I moved from another property.

I went with the 12 gauge. I ripped all the studs to match the 2 1/4 frames that it was made with. Did all the work myself except installing the garage door. I have a buddy in the garge door business and he hooked me up with a 2" thick industrial insulated door with a opener. The door is standard height. 7 foot high and I had a custom width made of 14 feet.

I did the siding that way to match the shed right next to it. Plus both my kids are soccer kids and I did not want the sides of my shop all dented up from ball hits.

These metal sheds are really a great value if you need storage space quickly.

About 2 years ago my wife and I moved from the city back to the farm where I grew up. Many of the old buildings were falling down so I needed to clean them out and someway still keep the useful equipment under shelter. So ... I purchased 3 of these American Steel buildings with 6 ft sidewalls and with 3 sides closed.

My cousin delivered, graded and leveled the gravel pads before the sheds were delivered. On the scheduled January morning of delivery, I got a call from a guy who, in broken English, asked for directions. Ten minutes later at 9am he and a helper (who spoke no English at all) showed up with a pickup pulling a flatbed trailer of sheet steel and square tubing. I showed them the pad locations and they jumped to work. They took about a 15 minute lunch break and by 3pm they pulled out of the driveway with all 3 sheds finished!! Yep, all three sheds up and finished in 6 hours!!

I don't have a specific photo of the sheds, but in the first of the following photos you can see two of the three (one at extreme left in distance and one in center of photo). Ignore all the cables, come-alongs, MF tractor, etc. as this photo was taken about three months after the sheds were installed and I was doing some work on an old barn that is behind me in the photo. The second photo shows the third and largest (18’ x 22’) shed that I’m currently using as a garage.

If you could post a few pics of the header you made, and the framing for the front/door area that would be great. Excavator coming in 2 weeks!

Header was just basic framing. Its 7 foot standard height for the door. I think I used a couple 2x6 then T1-11 on the outside and 5/8 plywood on the inside to sure it up nice. It is a false header. Not load bearing at all. Then built the two columns on either side. Door is 7x14 foot. Just nake sure the opening is square for the door. I will look. But I dont think I have any pics of it.
