I have inherited a Craftsman series 100 drill press. It is model # 103.23130 manufactured Jan 4, 1948. I have been following several members who have provided a great deal of detailed information on restoring this drill press. I have started disassembly and I have already screwed up. While removing the motor, 1156962 I managed to destroy the motor pulley. I have searched Ebay and can only find the Spindle pulley. Can someone give me a source for this pulley? Part number is 18026.

A 6962 motor has two 1/2" pulley shafts.

A generic 4-step cone pulley IS easy to find and will work. However, an oe 18062 pulley that matches the spindle pulley is not. Keep checking ebay if you want original.

Curious... how did you determine that date of manufacture?

How is your pulley destroyed?

If you start a new thread for your refurb, you'll get a lot more help and suggestions.

Regardless, please post some photos here or in a new thread.

Please add your general location to your profile.

Thanks for the reply, I determined the date from the motor tag which is stamped A4 48. The motor is a Type CNB K8, Model 1156962. I was able to achieve this feat of stupidity by dropping the motor and mount while disassembling it.

Also... If your plan is to use it for drilling into metal... The big end of the pulley won't be needed...

January 1948 is correct, but not likely the 4th. I've never seen that second digit greater than 5. It could be the week of the month, but I really dunno.

Don't feel bad... I did the exact same thing a couple weeks ago taking a drill press apart at an estate sale. My pulley was not dented as badly as yours, but still...

Exactly!

I've never raised a belt higher than the second step from the bottom. IMO, those larger motor pulley steps are for routing/shaping speeds and not generally needed otherwise.

As long as the pulley still spins true otherwise, I would just lop off the top half of that sheave and smooth/file/finish the top edge.
IIRC, that's what I did on one motor pulley. I also cut off the smallest step of a spindle pulley once because it was dented badly.

That's a basic step pulley, readily available at places like Grainger, McMaster-Carr, etc.

You'll need the motor shaft diameter, the outside diameter of both largest and smallest steps and number of steps (In your case, 4).

Yours is a die-cast model.

Thanks for the great advice. I think I will cut the top off and check to be sure it’s balanced. I really appreciate the info, I was really worried that I had messed up a part that is un obtainable. This forum is a fantastic asset.
