First haul of the year for me, not big, but it was free. 
Got a whole bunch of zipties, quite a few of them are the ones with the metal ratcheting tang.

I don't get the insulator prices but I guess I'd be a rich man if I really understood human nature. I can't recall how many times I've seen those sitting on barn and garage shelves as knick knacks.
Happy New Years all! Congrats to last year's winners and I'm hopeful for an entertaining thread this year!
I'm not excessively competitive but could we get some categories and awards for this year?
Examples:
The first threepete for an odd tool.
This happens every year and never cease to amaze me.
The best freebie or curb find.
I'm always shocked what people throw out or give away.
The spirit award.
Last year @duddly got a chair lift and refitted it so Mom wouldn't bust a hip going down the stairs. I thought he deserved more recognition.
All suggestions would be welcome and as I'm not the host, I'll help with tracking.

I love all these ideas - but I'm Mr. Award Nut (I had five in 2018, including Oldest, Rarest, Best Single Deal, i.e., biggest differential between cost and value, and Biggest Single Haul, in addition to inaugural PotY), and I'm not the host, so...

Most insulators are common and not worth the "antique store prices" people ask. A buck or two tops mostly. They had a near beanie baby spike some years back but that market collapsed. It has to be truly rare and desirable to get a big price. Many, especially at brick and mortar Antique stores, haven't a clue.
I like them as they are interesting, but not big $$ and especially stupid $$ interesting. I use them with mini LED Xmas lights for an interesting light display. have a set under the stair rail in the first run to the corner landing.

Dad was a lifetime lineman and spent a career replacing those with ceramic ones. I would have never guessed they would turn into fancy bauble money!

This weekend I picked up this Craftsman stack from my neighbor. He gave it to me. The top one (03/81) belonged to his uncle and the bottom (08/78) was from his grandfather. They both died in the early 90’s so he has had them ever since. He was trying to give them to his uncle’s son but it sounded like the son was not really interested as he already has modern boxes and is a pro wrench of some type. Here is why my neighbor gave them to me. His uncle and I were best friends back in the day. I shared some stories over time so he knew that I actually grew up with him. He probably could have sold them but didn't want them to go to just anyone. I told him that if he changed his mind or if the son ever wanted them, to just let me know and he could have them back. In the meanwhile I will be the caretaker of these old classics.

I do all my posting and viewing on my phone. My onboard photoeditor does not offer resizing. AFAIK, the GJ site doesn’t, either.
My habit has been to hit the picture icon at top and “drop image” full res into the text like this
But another way is to click “attach files” at the bottom, then click “insert” from the thumbnail and choose “thumbnail” like this

Since I use my iPad to browse the GJ, I prefer the full size images rather than having to make the thumbnails larger. I’m guilty of posting close to full size images because that is how I like to view them.

But what I AM going to do is make these only my second-ever re-jappaning project using homemade asphaltum based japanning goo (recipe lifted from HandToolRescue youtube) (first project being very successful restore of an ancient FE Wells pipe vise) (successful notwithstanding kitchen smelling like a road crew)

That is a nice roller with plenty of drawers. I picked up it‘s twin at a Tahoe moving sale a few months ago. I really like it.This weekend I picked up this Craftsman stack from my neighbor. Yes, that was what I was refering too. Just a different drawer configuration. Yours has one 2" then five 3" and the bottom looks like a 6". Mine has four 2" then five 3" all the way down. The build date is 08/78.

To be fair, it took me looking at it a few times before I got what you were saying. The one drawer removed helps me see the difference in height at the bottom.
I think both of these only came out after the switch to red/black. Otherwise, the red/gray had a slightly different layout (75/76 were the swap years?)

Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that I have a 14D Craftsman cabinet? I always thought that 12D was as many as they go. I have done a quick search here for 14d roller and came up with zero. I did a search for 12d roller and got page after page. I checked the Sears tool catalogs for 76-77-78, 12 drawer was the biggest. Thoughts? Conspiracy theories?

I looked at them for five minutes and couldn't spot the difference. My attention to detail must be really off!
Sorry for the blur, I didn't have my glasses on... It looks to say "Chicago Specialty Tool MFG CO. U.S.A." and "NO 3015 Rimster Pat No 3.178.971". The handle looks yellow in the pics, but it's actually colorless/clear.

Had to get in the door of this thread early. Happy new year guys. Had to go to father in-laws to line out his meds and he happen to want to clean out his junk drawers. But I am just starting with old police whistle which I think was involved with the arrest of Woody Harrellson who was arrested for throwing out hemp seeds in Beattyville Ky.

VERY cool! Growing up in the 70s, I loved Tonka, had some Buddy L (mostly hand-me-downs from uncles and older cousins), also Nylint. Never heard of Structo!

A local pawn shop had this in the bargain bin. Haven’t been there in a while and seems they didn’t add many new tools. This stuck out while digging.

So, I had won an online auction back in early December, but due to having to mail a certified check, and the vagaries of LTL shipping, said object did not arrive on its projected date, which was Dec. 30th, but, instead, showed up today. So, not sure if it is my last find of find of last year, or my first find of this year. Anyway:

Well, Barnett makes crossbows, and in the early eighties they made a deal with an old English company to sell their bows while they sold the air guns, or, more specifically, one model of air rifle, rebranded. So, what I have hear is a Webley Tracker, Webley being one of the grand old English gun companies, who has been making air rifles since the twenties. This is from '84, the only year they made this deal. The auction had no idea what it really was, and it needs a good cleaning and some work (and I will sell the scope to recoup the costs) but, I am pretty happy.
