Found this postcard, dated Oct 1941, being used as a bookmarker inside one of those old books I picked up at the flea this morning. Instant ephemera! Gotta love the hidden bonus finds. Like forgetting about the prize at the bottom of a box of Crackerjack! :)

A penny postcard! By keeping that card handy, do you think Mr. Lofland was trying to save the Mobile station some money by not having to remind him to get his car checked? ****! That reminds me--it's been at least 30 days since I had my car inspected and lubed!

Snerk. Those were the days!
A penny postcard!
Indeed. My "Find of the Year" so far, found, secondarily, in a book, even if that judgement is just in my own book. :)

According to the Fillmore Historical Museum, as far as collectible penny postcards go, just "Old".

@3baygarage -
that stamped Stanley number is truly odd.

As an observer and not-too-often contributor here in "Garage Sale", thanks very much to both @Smokeshow69 for hosting the thread for 2023, and to @RTM for being willing to pick up the ball and run with it for 2024.

I am in full agreement on the "no crotch" photos.
I mean really guys - you can't wait until you get home with the thing and lay it on the tailgate or something? RLY?

In respect to the GIGANTIC photos, in some cases it's definitely overkill, but it all too many cases, those giant images serve well for these old eyes to be able to suss out patent dates and patent numbers that I would not otherwise see.

Might get in trouble for this post! This was from a purchase about 15 years back, old library clearing out some books, picked a few and spotted this and bought it.20240106_165117.jpg
Inside at home I found these two items.20240106_165209.jpg
The booklet is this.

Which I think was a really nice find. But not relevant really to this thread as it's an old pick

Not trying to re-open a can of worms..., but for patent dates and numbers and any and all other kinds of pertinent markings (brand, COO, etc), I take and post close-ups/zooms, where the rest of the tool, which has already been posted, is irrelevant and therefore not needed in the photograph. But those close-ups/zooms are also re-sized to 725 x 500 (landscape) or 500 x 725 (portrait), edit: if necessary. Zooms are often captured by the camera in my phone at sizes smaller than that already.

I am full agreement with no crotch photo when there is a crotch photo.

Two planned stops, zero TOO's - I had hopes for the first stop and drove 20 min to get there 5 min too late for several things I had my eye on. I did manage to get the Buck 110 after the guy that had it and two other knives threw them back as too expensive (Reseller. he was at stop #2 as well, but I got there first... icon_mrgreen.gif

So a 1974-1980 finger groove Buck 110. The Abu Garcia reel does not belong on the pole its on, but I wanted the pole... It is only 31" OAL, and I think the rod section was a PO's add on. as its more like the Flexable tip of a longer pole than belonging on the vintage aluminum and cork grip. The dykes are marked Lakeside, but the grips have a cross hatch pattern and I may be able to match that to a more common MFG. The tester and 1/4 hex extension were "just because". $20 all

The estate sale was less than a mile fom home, and skimpy on tools but for $3 total I snagged the SO 10MM someone is looking for somewhere, and a SO pocket size driver. The black should come off with alcohol. The brass and leather key fobs were paid for, the matches and candles were in the free pile. I use BD candles camping for fire starting and for 10-15 min of light sometimes. I have made one candle holder for the lighting task, I plan to make some more so they are handy. Often for a power outage that's all you need.

For some reason, I've come across more Snap On 10mm combos at garage sales than any other brand, including Craftsman. For some reason, they seem to grow feet more than the other brands. I'm not counting imports, just USA brands.
Than why can't I find one when I need it? And all these new engines and tractors are going with it.

Finally got out for the first time in a while yesterday. Large CM Auto lock pliers, (X) (I know it is really (DC) DOE 15/16-1, Early Craftsman raised lettering CV DOE, 1/4" sockets are Indestro Select and Wizard (Indestro made), the three 3/8 are all metric (SK and two Kraeuters), 3/8 hex Williams and a 9/16 SO deep. The flex extension is CM =V=. Total was $6 for all.

RE: three sockets at lower left in second image in post #65:

what exactly have you got there?
I'm not sure. You probably know better than I do, oh master of all-things-1/4"-drive, lol. Here's some close ups. 12 point, but unmarked other than an unusual dot next to the size:

^ thanks. I have been working on a Carb-O-Mang set for several years. Those would complete it.
does YOURS have a 3/8" 8-point?
and are you short ANY of the sockets? (I have one set with a mess of extras.)

3M brand sandpaper, maybe 40-50 sheets of various grades, all 9" x 11". I didn't even count.

No, not the 3M "pro quality", but good enough. On a good day purchased in bulk, maybe $0.75/sheet retail price.

Also included was one of the sanding blocks you see here. But not the storage rack; that's just me being OCD.

Total was $2. And seller even apologized for maybe two sheets that had just a little wrinkling from humidity; I used them anyway and they were fine.

I have disciplined myself to leave singleton wrenches and sockets for The Next Guy when cruising Garage Sales, Estate Sales, Flea Markets, et al

Well, most of the time.....

But.....for some reason when pulling open a tool box drawer at a sale and I see what looks like matching wrenches or sockets, I have this Issue With Myself where I have to put them in order so that I can see how complete the set is....

If the set is almost complete (I NEVER find complete sets of anything) I can't help myself.....they end up in the truck

So, I bought 8 Craftsman 6-point combination wrenches at a sale. Generally it's my practice to leave C-Man raised panel combos for The Next Guy...
But, since they were 6-point combos, the price was right...what the heck....I bought them

3/8 to 7/8 with the 7/16 gone AWOL
Found a 5/16 and an extra 13/16 in one of my Give-Away boxes

CM.jpg
If you have an extra 7/16"er in 6 point, let me know.
Hey if you like, you can have the 13/16 :D

I hit three sales today, spending a total of $11.
53447935840_9a1c0c465e_b.jpg
The first sale was an Elks lodge swap, always a winner and I look forward too it every year. I found the Clock (needs a battery), off brand dial calipers, Millers Falls tap handle, hand reamer, homemade burr remover, Klein cable cutters, Pexto dykes, pin vise, counter sink, and an unused set of Lufkin pin vises.

Next stop was a barn/antique sale where I found the Ackley book, while the last stop was an estate sale waaaaay out in the country. Here I found a SK spark plug socket, Blue Point ignition wrench, tiny screw driver, Indestro ignition wrench, Master ignition pliers, and a Proto Click Stop 4" cresent.

OK, What's the problem with raised panel Craftsmans?

You **** for that pin vise set alone! Cool clock, too.

you’ve gotta realize you are in the minority here, posting useful closeups, gathering all the relevant details to help in identification.

I see so many posts, especially in other venues, where the OP doesn’t report on the marks, provide closer views, etc, and then asks who made it. I have zoomed in on their big pix, asked what the rest of the letters were. Or telling him what the patent number of h the tool was.

They are amazed. So am I, for different reasons.

You **** for that book and I didn't even know PO wrote the thing! he was a legend and IMO still is; him and Jack O'Conner.
Yeah, that was a good find. Sadly, it is vol. 2, and doing a little checking online, the matching 1st vo. is not so cheap. Oh, well, I will keep my eyes open for it.
