I have a new shop and I'd like to build a Steevo style work bench. I have a rolling chest for automotive tools so this will be for lesser used tools and possibly parts. I have ~ 136" so I'm thinking (2) 46" boxes plus a workspace with a chair/stool. Looking for opinions on these boxes or others.

Yukon 46" 9 drawer $350 Harbor Freight
Husky 42" 8 drawer $300 Home Depot
Husky 46" 9 drawer $500 home Depot
Kobalt 46" 9 drawer $500 Lowes

Lowes is the easiest to get to for me. Harbor Freight regularly sends me coupons but they are further away.

Husky has (or maybe had??) a 24" deep version of the 46" one you linked to. It brings it up on my closest stores website (for $448) but its showing limited availability so I wonder if they discontinued them and went to a shallower 18" version that you found?

Id do a little looking if I were you.....the extra depth is worth a lot. At least that's what the women say.

If all you can find are the 18" deep ones I would just buy the cheapest one (HF Yukon) because I am pretty sure they are all the same box with a different badge on them. Use the money saved to build the rest of the bench.

I have the 42” Husky, specifically chosen because the garage it’s in is tiny, and it hugs the wall while still fitting a suv and pickup inside.

Not ideal, but it fits the space available.

For the price, it’s fairly stout. HF didn’t have anything comparable at the time. I do have a HF five drawer cart in another location, and absolutely hate the latches. Don’t know if the Yukon has that same design though.

I’d go with the husky in 24” depth. HUGE bonus in terms of storage space/ flexibility.
HD is showing the 46” in black, 9 drawer 24” deep for $448 at a local store. The white version is $398if you like white - I certainly do.

Have you look into the gray market? aka local auction house? (I've bought like 8 boxes, only need 2 when I started)
- Customer return, insurance or damaged boxes. If you don't mind a dent or two, scratches or issues you should be able to find a box for 60-80% of new.

What kind of auction house? This sounds good especially because the back and sides would be hidden in my application.

White must not be a popular color because I have a white 46x24 shoved under my bench for random **** that I pickup up for less than the other colors. Looks sweet to me. Cool enough that I have my Snap On, Mac and Cornwell guys trying to find me a nice new white tool box

I'm a big fan of white tool boxes - they brighten-up a otherwise dark space. My big Lista is white as is my little Lista (Under the extension table of my table saw) and I picked-up a 27" Kobalt in white - only 18" deep, but it fits perfectly in a spot near the woodshop door. I use it for Li-Ion battery storage and for a few misc. shop tools. When I get around to rebuilding my outfeed table, I plan on a White 46" Husky (I'll replace the casters with 3" casters - to fit height-wise.

The New series 3 cabinets from HF are decent, except they are too tall to fit under a normal work bench height - even with the casters off. Also, the series 3 cabinets have an outside depth (front to back) of 22" - IIRC, the inside depth of the drawers (f-b) is only around 18" the Husky 24" deep cabinet has an inside drawer depth of 21.75 f-b. That ain't nothing.

Try googling "online auction near" and your zip code. Open a few and search for 'tool box' 'toolbox' 'tool chest' 'toolchest' 'tool bench' 'toolbench' and any other other local name that might be used.

Good luck hunting, and if you need to buy by this weekend, then buy new.

The Yukon goes on sale fairly often. It was $299 for nearly all of December and the first week of January. Hard to beat for the price if the 18” depth isn’t a dealbreaker, especially if you’re buying a bunch of them.
