The first coat of finish needed some color and the gloss tamed.
Put on a coat of straight linseed oil and fired it at 350F for 1-1/2 hours.
Then patted it with a rag to dull the gloss.
It brought out some great patterns, textures and red brown color.
The camera doesn't catch all the subtleties, but I sure like it.
Mission accomplished.
