Not that it being my dad's makes it anymore valuable, but it does have a bunch of old made in usa wrenches, pliers, screw drivers etc that are probably 30-50 years old. Was just going to stick it on marketplace and sell it with all hand tools included. Tool box itself is probably late 90s early 2000. About 30" wide 4ft tall.

I use to hit garage sales on Friday’s when I was running roads. Pennys on dollar, know that’s not what wanted to hear but it’s more of a just pass it on.

That's the cheaper line of boxes from Craftsman. Notice the locking bar required for the lower box. The tools will probably affect the value more. But usually when you buy a package deal like that, you expect to get a real bargain so don't expect people to be beating a path to your door unless it is.

Pics of the tool drawers would really help us give you a better idea on pricing.

Any clue of brands in there would also help, but again- pics are what will narrow this down since took marks or corrosion will also detract from pricing even if they are quality tools.

I wasn't sure how many pics I could post on one thread, so that's why I only did one. I can post more.

To maximize the sale price; Clean it up and organize the tools. Try to find comps for the tools and box to show the buyer would save money over other options. If any of the tools are USA made or name brand mention it in the description. $200+ is not un-heard of.

Your market not these guys, looking for "you ****" Garage Journal deal. Your market guys want tools work, alternative buying HF new. Or old guys longing for quality Craftsman tools from days gone by. They pay much better than $35 or $50.

Yes, those may have sold on sale for $99; but in case haven't heard, Sears went out of tools business years ago, and you can't get McDonalds burger, fries, drink for $1.29 anymore. No comparable $99 toolbox available today. I could post stories of buying similar boxes $50, $30, $60 in past year; but I bought for that, resold much, much more.

If has decent tools, as nice condition it looks, should easily bring $200. Probably wouldn't bring $400. Need detail pictures of tools inside to guess better. I've sold several cheap boxes, not as good condition as this one, for $75 to $250 in past year, no tools in them. ycgoat right, to sell tools, clean them up and organize. Might do a lot better selling boxes for $100 to $150 and selling tools separately.

You’ll likely make more ebaying the tools as sets (wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.) in separate auctions. USA-made Craftsman wrench sets get as much by themselves as some of the prices mentioned above. I would only sell on FB what is difficult to pack and ship.

I could guess, but it would be nowhere near accurate as the contents are likely worth more than the boxes, and I can't see the contents.

Ratchets, sockets, and wrenches can be worth anywhere for 25 cents to a hundred bucks each. Depends on brand, age and quality within the brand.

I think your $200 ask is in the right neighborhood. Be prepared for lower offers and determine where your bottom is.

Are there any sockets, ratchets, wrenches? Just going by those pics, I'd say $200 is probably realistically what to expect. If it has wrenches and sockets (at least CM or better), then the price would raise.

But as is, it's mainly just the boxes that have value.

5 or 6 Older made in usa crescent brand adjustable wrenches. It's got a small kobalt socket set from lowes with a ratchet inside that roll up pouch. I might take that out and post on ebay.

Sorry but don't see much value there I would just keep them if they were my dad's. If you intend to sell them I personally think you might do better selling boxes cleaned up and empty. Maybe $1 to $2 each for pliers less than $1 each for screwdrivers at garage sale. Not sure if the hand drill has any collector value or not. I just don't see much value there. I think you'd be lucky to get somebody interested in those boxes for $100 probably $50 or less IMO. Again they'd have much more value to me personally if they were my dads. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

If you don't already have a second set of tools, I'd just keep 'em if you have the space. You can put it in the basement or shed or somewhere away from your main set of tools. For convenience, having a second set somewhere else is handy when you need a tool quick for a project or repair.

If you don't have a main set already, then definitely keep it.

Because you are going to be dealing with lowlife scumbags offering you $50 all the while saying they're doing you a favor getting it out of your place. May as well keep it for what little you will get.

Was expecting more in tools, given that; I'd take the tools out, and sell the boxes clean. Ask $150, take $125. Or just price firm at $125.

I'd value all the tools together at about $25. But, hard to sell at that. If you sell the boxes with the tools in them, you'll get a lot of $75 to $100 offers and have a hard time getting as much as if they were empty.

When it comes to used boxes and tools, its a completely regional thing. The old Snap On MBC boxes in SoCal can go for $350-$450, here in Az. I've bought 2, $75 each. Craftsman tombstone grinders in So.Cal. are going for $150-$200, here, if I can find one, goes for $20. And BTW, some of us prefer "grandpa tools" over anything new from HF.

I don't see anything worth more than a few $ a piece as far as tools. The boxes appear to be the bottom rung of the craftsman line. So, like a few others have said, don't expect to get much $ out of it. I'd guess $100 max if someone just needs a cheap box for basic tools; but realistically probably less than that.

Between the corrosion and hard life most of those tools have seen.. i'm finding it difficult to add much value to the box itself. Disappointing with as clean as that box setup is for the age.

I'm sorry but I think $100-125 is probably the sweet spot for these, and even at that you may sit on them for a bit..

I concur with the second box for the house in the basement or shed, etc.. which will provide more usage to you than the hassle of finding a buyer for this set.

I'll add that other than the duct tape and the sockets you mentioned, there really isn't much value in the stuff in the boxes. Others have suggested keeping the toolboxes around so you have a spare set of tools, but I also like to use toolboxes like these for other things. I guess technically it's still qualifies as a toolbox, but they're good for storing supplies for 3D printers in. Could also be used as a place to store barbecue grill accessories. Maybe car wash supplies. In other words it doesn't have to be a place to hold more tools that you don't need

I used to buy and sell toolboxes. A box filled with tools like shown in the pictures could compromise the sale. If this were my sale, I would dump everything out of the drawers into a Rubber Maid container and clean the toolbox. I think your cleaned toolbox may command a higher price. Offer the junk tools as a no charge bonus, after the sale. A dirty toolbox is more difficult to resell.

In SoCal you could do pretty well, but it would take weeks to parcel it out. At $200 it would be gone in a flash.

He's ^^^ right on the empty box. That's where the money is. Tools extra, but not even $100 for what I see.

The only value in that box is sentimental value because it was your dad’s.
That box combination was probably bought for less than $100 brand new. The good thing is that it still looks brand new. The tools in the box look like flea market finds.

I agree that the tools add negative value to the box, and the best thing to do would be to empty the box, clean it up and sell it separately.

You could try selling the tools separately as a lot.

Do you have any young mechanically inclined family members you could give it to as their first tool box?
They would probably be thrilled to have that and it would stay in the family.

Sounds like tool box prices vary quite a bit by region. I agree, the tools don't add much value.

At one time old tool boxes like that were passed around for free to twenty bucks. When I sold mine after I reconfigured my garage and got new chests I was surprised how fast people pounced on them, off brand a couple for $60 bucks.

Anyway, nowadays, a nice craftsman box like that with base I would list for $75-100.

Other tools I would keep what I wanted as spares and sell the rest as a unit cheap.

If you have a son or hope to (daughter and or grand children as fits) start adding inexpensive tools for them to learn with. To personalize it add a label to the inside lid with appropriate nouns ans verbage, ie; grandpa's pride and joy Hobby (wo)man II/ Jr.
Harry [this was not a legacy piece, and I had to go to 4-5 stores in two countries to get those letters! There are easier choices now]

This looks like my grandpa's tool box before I cleaned it out. Not to parrot everyone here, but there isn't much of value in the tools. Clean up the box decently and you may be able to get 100-150 for it around here. The top box would make a good road/track day box for someone.
