They are cool… but I bet they go high too…

I could always go with one wider box I guess… Are these “Yukon” boxes worth a ****?

And next time you get one of those coupons, holler at me!
We bought a dozen of the Yukon Cabinets in the Drawer configuration (they have a cabinet one too) for school library maker spaces. They do exactly what you suggested, they hold two Dremel 3-D 45 printers and the drawers hold all the associated 3-D printing supplies. We were very surprised of the quality of the boxes for around $350 about a year ago.

While they are on the narrow side, they do exactly what we needed, and as a bonus lock up so that the people managing the labs can control some of the technology as well as any sharp tools that shouldn’t be left out. I would definitely consider one of these cabinets to be a great value as long as you’re not planning on loading it with your 10,000 piece socket set and using it hard every day.

So I haven’t gotten my nerve up enough yet to hit harbor freight, but I did check out the husky at Home Depot. This one isn’t bad:

How often does Home Depot do sales on husky boxes I wonder?

Kinda whenever they feel like it...or so it seems. Saw this at one of my local HDs a couple of days ago, I was tempted to get it, but I don't really need it at the moment.

My previous employer purchased those for there laboratories and engineering areas. I thought they were pretty good for the cost.

Pay attention to the drawer latch design. Some of the HF boxes have, I believe, the crappy drawer release like my five drawer cart, although the side box that’s modified for my welding cart is more conventional.

The Craftsman, Kobalt, and Husky boxes I have are about the same, quality wise, as is the HF side cabinet. I don’t see much to distinguish one from the other, as long as you can stay away from the hokey HF latch

I set up my reloading press on one of the Yukon carts and it’s worked out great. I can roll it into a room with HVAC during bad weather when I can’t work outside.

46 inch workbench

I also bought a 26 inch roller chest to push around the shop - I prefer it over the tool carts just because of the solid top - I have a work surface and I can keep some stuff sitting on it all the time. It’s a Gen 2 and I’m not sure I’d like the Gen 3 as much.

I built mine.

1 sheet of plywood. I do admit I still need to do the drawer fronts. I also think I need to turn the two small drawers into 3 shorter ones.

If I were to buy, I would get the bigger huskey and put both printers on the same cart.

I 3d printed tpu feet to help reduce vibrations from the printer. Not sure if they do anything.

I’d totally build as that would be a fun, but I’m already in the middle of a sort of complex mobile tool cart build and need another couple of weeks on that… and I’m impatient.

But in the world of roller tool boxes:

US General > Masterforce (Menards) > Husky Commercial > Kobalt/Craftsman/Regular Husky
Agreed! I checked out the home Depot website a few years ago before buying USG 26" boxes and thought the prices looked great. For this application they would probably be ok. But I did compare the weights of the boxes to others like craftsman and kobalt and they were substantially lighter.

Well ****... I was on google earlier and their cookie tracking just got me. They served up a $50 off coupon on the 46" Yukon. So... $299 for the Harbor Freight junk or $398 for the Husky junk.

I prefer the Husky... and that's a much shorter drive... But, $100 is a $100. I dunno...

You would think, right? But I've been testing that and can't see any discernible difference between prints made on my work bench and those made on top of a rolling cart I have... The casters are lockable, but that's the first thing I thought about as well.

I have a Bambu Carbon X1 and a Prusa Mk3S.

There's a YouTuber, Emily the Engineer I think, who did progressively sillier things with her 3D printers to see what would happen. And up to and including hanging the printer upside-down from a rope, the end result was pretty much no difference. They're pretty robust.

She did get failures when she tried printing submerged in a tank of mineral oil. The heating element couldn't keep the nozzle hot.

I am looking at the Craftsman 1000 series 27” from Lowe’s. Basic, $150. Perfect for my needs. I think it will work fine for you as well.

When I first decided to do this, I went and looked at them and was not impressed. I'm sure they are fine for most people, but I think I would destroy one of those things pretty quick - even doing light duty 3d print stuff. The casters are literally just bolted to the bottom sheet steel - all the store examples were already close to failing.

I've been really happy with the Husky box I put in my car trailer. It's not equivalent to the Snap-On and Mac boxes that I have in the shop but it's been bounced around in my trailer for two years and something like 20k miles and it still works like new.

I have bought and sold many of these SIMPLICITY pattern cabinets The company replaced these cabinets with a newer version that allows only one drawer to be opened at one time.
The drawers are on easy moving roller slides. The cabinets come in 30" and 36" widthsl I bought and kept the only five drawer unit I have seen.
How much? These cabinets are high quality. I bought quite a few for $40-$50 each and others for $100. I paid $75 for the five drawer. Check Craigslist and Market-Place. Maybe even call a few sewing stores.
I painted the 5 drawer red.
The dividers are held in with a few spot-welds and are easily broken loose and removed. Each drawer should hold a hundred pounds. The drawers are about 8 inches deep and front to back about 32 inches. I think f these units as a less refined LISTA cabinet. I have one Lista.

I just bought that exact one on clearance for $188. It was clearly a store specific clearance as no other store locally had any at that price.

Don't do it. Buy a US General they're light years better (I've had both). I was trying to support US jobs (Craftsman is US made) but I was disappointed in the quality.

@nicks78camaro I have a US General in the shop and love it. I will either Facebook Marketplace a new tool box under $200 or buy the Craftsman. I will check it out tomorrow after work.

Yesterday, I embarked on a perilous journey into the abyss, a place some call Harbor Freight. The air hung heavy with an unsettling nostalgia, as if I had stumbled into the time capsule of K-Mart circa 1985. Now, I won't pass judgment on those who find solace in that peculiar establishment, but by god, I can't help but despise it with every fiber of my being.

In the midst of this chaotic retail odyssey, I found myself drawn to the Yukon box. A glimmer of hope in the vast expanse of mediocrity. Yet, as I caressed its drawers, a gnawing discontent crept in. The tactile experience lacked the visceral satisfaction akin to the mighty Husky, and the depth, oh the depth, was but a shallow mockery of what I sought.

Alas, the Yukon failed to seduce me into its metallic embrace. Today, my quest for salvation leads me to the hallowed grounds of Home Depot, where I hope to unearth a storage sanctuary worthy of my discerning standards. The saga continues down the aisle of cheap *** tool boxes...

Interesting...your prose reminds me of an AI-generated message that the guy that took third place in our Fantasy Football League posted.

Are you real, or a bot from our future?

I try really hard not to bash on places (nothing is as good or bad as it seems :)) and Harbor Freight has its place with consumable and one-off stuff, but its just not a "feel good" place". I find myself there every once in while but I'm never happy about it. Not sure if it's nostalgia for cool old tool shops, this board, or just stubbornness. I say holdout for some used boxes (matching Kennedy's seem to match your shop vibe) or just pony up for what you want, you'll only regret it once!
I had suggested the Husky because I was also looking for a "cheap tool box" not long ago and came really close on the Husky. I ended up with a Milwaukee Packout drawer stack because I wanted to try them but I wouldn't classify that option as economical.

So is there a real German, or just an AI bot?

Ironically, the German and I have been working on an AI spam detector for the past 6 months... And when I say working, I mean working. Probably the largest project I've ever worked on for myself. It launched on jalopyjournal.com yesterday and testing begins today.

I just hooked up the trailer. I will post as soon as it's loaded up...

Probably too late for this, but when I was looking I liked the Craftsman 2000 series a lot better than the standard duty Husky. The Husky seemed flimsy compared to the Craftsman, and I liked the soft close on the Craftsman a lot better.

My wild goose chase is over... I started at my local Home Depot. They had two of these boxes this weekend, but they were long gone. So, I then went to the Home Depot about 15 miles away. They had one and I bought it, only to notice it was all kinds of fucked up - paint chips, dents, etc... So, I turned around and returned it after being denied a discount.

On to my next Home Depot.

I braved the traffic in Austin and went right to the center of town where I found them entirely out as well... I asked the manager if he could check stock at the local stores and mentioned they had a beat up one in the back that he would sell me cheap. I took a look and both bottom drawers were bashed in.

For $150 plus the king's tax, I accepted the challenge. I figured I might be able to fix the drawers and if not, I could do something weird to replace them. The money was just too good.

On the way home, I stopped by a buddy's shop that does paintless dent repair hoping to get some pointers. Instead, he just fix em both. Took all of ten minutes... and now, I have my ****** 3D printer tool box for pretty dang cheap!

What did Lou Reid sing? "Walk on the Wild Side" or was that . . . . the dark side?
53 years ago, I worked for a catering company. We were catering to a house warming including a large swimming pool. There were may 50 persons at the party and the booze was flowing freely. The owner of the new house offered each one of us a $100 to serve naked. It took about a New York Minute for the party to really "amp up" as many of the guests joined us.

Those Husky boxes look very similar to the ToolShop boxes that Menards used to carry, albeit red in color, which were made by Edsal here in the US. If they are built by the same, I believe you will be very happy for your intended purpose.

After a repaint, it serves me well at the fire station.
