Didn't get out much this weekend, and really should have. Did find this little aluminum handled pick on Sunday afternoon. Probably not really WW2-era, but it looks close enough to throw in a GMTK as as "extra" shop-made piece. No MFR marks, so I'm assuming shop-made, and no conclusive way to guess when/where.

It’s definitely the ‘off-season’ for sales in my area and I’ve been profoundly jealous of the finds posted … suckage abounds!! I did find this Matco pliers set in the local resale shop. I suspect Taiwan-made, but I like Matco tools as the main toolbox factory is literally yards away from my boyhood home. IMG_3568.jpeg

Found the cool Lectrolite, then felt obligated to give the Proto a home too when I found it elsewhere.

Dust cap pliers. Huh. One more thing to add to the need-to-find-one list. I‘ve even got a camper with dust caps, and had no idea that I needed the pliers. Until now!!!

Great haul 3bay!
Thanks Outlaw. I was quite happy with the finds despite many of the vendors being a bit miserable. I think the snowbirds had already pissed off all of them before I got there at about 9:15.

The pliers and how they help came up in a recent thread. I made good use of my Snap-Ons with my last car, although the need for them goes back quite far.
I remember those fuzzy apes 🦧 lol That’s worth a you **** on it’s own. Cool ratchet too though.
I think there’s a small hole in the bottom for a stick. Would it have been for a potted plant? Reminds me of a fuzzy Santa we had.
@3baygarage you **** for the st-50! And good finds all around
Thanks Cody. What most might not know is it only works one way, and has one pawl. Hence the ABR stamp. Otherwise built similar to a regular St-50.

A you **** goes out to 3bay. I love the billings ratchet and the st-50. I have seen those pullers but always passed them up. Think I will get one for the collection.

Pretty sure they were just toys, I had a lion and I think a giraffe too. What I do remember was they were made in the Soviet Union. There were bobble heads that were made of that same material too.

Around the same time I had a couple of those rubber hanging apes. lol

3Bay suckage vote gets a +1 for the Eldi pedal wrench. Old fashioned looking, but still far superior to the pretty Park "laser cut" sheet metal ****.

I landed this Triumph(?) lantern. I pick up the Coleman white gas types when they are cheap. I really don't know anything about these. If anyone has info on this, I'd be interested.
Know nothing specific about your Triumph, but (google says) rumored to be made by Embury Mfg in NY.

I'm looking for parts for a vintage Dietz here, they may have goodies which can help you.

I landed this Triumph(?) lantern.
One of my lantern references says that Triumph was a name/brand used by the Defiance Lantern & Stamping Company of Rochester NY, which had been started by William Embury who later left the company and started the Embury Manufacturing Company. The Embury company later (1930?) bought out the Defiance concern. But I didn't find any pictures or descriptions of the "Triumph" lantern. Does the lantern have any other names, cities, dates?

I had mine for ages, they are super handy and effective for older vehicles, not so much for modern except for maybe trailers. I first sued them in HS Auto lab.

How well do they work on soft (rubber / plastic) caps? I have a bunch of those on lawn tractor and cart axles.

I have not used them on a plastic cap but If you are careful to only grip enough to get them pulled vs. squeezing them to death, they should work. I'd guess the Lectrolite version 3 bay found would be the better choice?

For the plastic caps another option might be to fab a special use pair? Start with tubing with an ID the size of the caps, weld that to a pair of tongs you don't care about, and then band saw the tube in half lengthwise. Open wide and grind some clearance as needed.

Then, in use, you can grip the cap and work it loose, as that is what you do with the metal caps.

As usual, I'm over-thinking this. As always, there's a YouTube solution, and it's by one of the guys I trust the most (always gets right to the point as well)...

Picked up a 1942-1959 Gerstner leatherette toolbox in good condition late last month from a Facebook Marketplace listing. I think the felt has been replaced, and it's missing the label on the lowest drawer. Tools and 11th ed. Machinery's Handbook were included.

Would this style have included a mirror?

Yes! You've got a #42 chest and it would have had a mirror, just like on my #O42 chest I found late last year. Linked here is the progress I've made cleaning it up. I had to buy a 12th ed. MH to go with mine, but luckily my mirror and label were intact. You can get both a mirror and a reproduction label on the Gerstner site--but they're pricey. BTW, You ****!

Thank you. I have a 29th ed. MH at my desk at work, though I tend to refer to el Goog instead when I need info.

I did see that mirrors and labels are available on Gerstner's site, as are handles. The outer layer on my box's handle is cracked and peeling, I'll need to see what I can do about that.

Good Luck! As you can read in my link, the Gerstner handle they now sell is shorter than the one on our chests and I had a hell of a time finding anyone who would re-cover my old one--and I still haven't got it back yet.

thanks to @Kaervak for the heads up, got some nice stuff at the restore today!
You guys have way better ReStore in your respective areas than we do in SD. We have to search through crappy chandeliers, hollow core doors, and broken pavers just to find an occasional Stanley screwdriver.
