I think it's awesome that he did it that way so the public can view the cars. Better than being locked up in some rich-guy compound. I guess if you have that kind of dough, there are worse things to spend it on.

You might be surprised how cheaply you can buy an old Walmart building for. Once Wallyworld moves out, no-one else needs a building that big.

Somebody's got to preserve history. What better than a way in which others can enjoy it.
And I thought Leno was dedicated to his cars...

and leno is. its just really too bad we cant go in and see them...

waiting for the day he passes away from old age and his cars become open too the public. ;)

im 22 so I have a better chance then most of you!!

That's a nice collection. Backer's in Fulton, MO did that years ago with the defunct K-Mart building. He recently downsized his public collection to a rotational 85 or so cars in a smaller warehouse.

Yeah, they don't go out of business, they move to a bigger facility.

I've seen cities take over old Mao-Marts and have their own convention centers. If they can rent it out enuf, they can actually make money.

A old Super K is now an exposition center not far from me. Private owner, not a city but it does bring money to the city. They even want to have a car show.

that's sounds like something a 22 year old kid would say.... glad to know you're waiting for the day of someones death to see some cars that are actually shown to the public quite a bit... :headscrat

Ok I am 42 and some of you will say I look stupid here. Oh well here goes...That looked like a junk yard to me with all those Government Motors Cars in there. Least he could have done was had the building full of Fords...Then I wouldn't miss the place.

Don't confuse the political environment of today with history and what these cars meant to alot of people.

I think that's why he made sure to say "from old age".

Sorry but I dispise GMC so much I would rather walk down the shoulder of the road carrying a ford hubcap than ride in any GMC. We have had several and each have reinforced our opinion that they are garbage. This guys collection is nice but not for me.

I have NEVER been a GM fan, but if you can't admit those are some AWESOME cars (esp the Vette's!), then you'd be in the "jealous but won't admit it" category!:bounce:

It's the ONLY way you'd get me into a WalMart too!!

Been there, got a tee shirt.

The place is amazing! Most of the cars are Corvettes and Camaros. As a 'vette guy, seeing almost every year of C1 - C3's was unbelievable, especially seeing a couple big block midyears sitting there.

If you're ever in Punta Gorda it is a MUST SEE.

It's called the Muscle Car City Museum in Punta Gorda, FL.

Thanks Syclone for posting the link. I would have if it wasn't here yet.

Yes, Super Wally World opened about a mile away. Glad someone turned the old building into a destination instead of a retail competitor.

I just can't imagine keeping 200+ registrations active and tags current. Not to mention insurance...

Wal*Mart won't sell or lease their old buildings to any competitor, so this or the churches and convention centers is typically all you'll see an old W* store made into. Many of them just sit and rot.
