I just acquired this New Britain tool cabinet on wheels. I ended up putting my Craftsman 10 drawer box on it. I found a date stamp on it of 07-68. I find it odd that I can't really find any info about it online. Is it a common tool cabinet??
It's not a super common cabinet but I also think people dont post about them when the find them because of brand recognition. I can however, tell you this cabinet is made by Waterloo who also made a very similar roller for Sears.

In a way, it is very common. Waterloo made these cabinets for New Britain, S-K, Proto, Master Mechanics, NAPA, and other house brands. The only difference was the name plate. I’ve had some maybe twenty years ago or so. I didn’t really like them.

I found what I think may be a New Britain valve rotating tool at a sale today. It’s unmarked but the knurling looks early NB to me. Opinions?IMG_3094.jpeg

I’ve not seen that style with the adjustable part, but the valves had either a slot or small indentations and those protrusions would fit in the valve head so you could lap the valve. Probably before 1940.

Thanks for the info. It has an odd way of locking & unlocking the drawers. The only way to open the drawers is to open the bottom door which releases the drawers. Then close the bottom door to lock the drawers. Way different than any of my other tool cabinets.

I took the keyswitch to a locksmith today to get a set of keys made. I've had them make keys for me before on other toolboxes with no issue. When they looked at this keyswitch it baffled 2 of their employees & this is a locksmith that's been around for 80+ yrs in Cincinnati. You know, the ones that have a million keys hanging on pegs behind the main counter. I wasn't expecting that. I usually wait 10 minutes & leave with keys. So, they are currently studying this keyswitch to figure out how to make keys for it. Everything about this cabinet seems different.

IMG_7923.jpegIMG_7924.jpegHere is a 1/2 extension I believe it’s 6 inch. NS24 is the model number on it. Got this from a coworker on Friday who brought in a bucket of tools for me to look through. I haven’t had any luck finding New Britain lately so two new additions this weekend is nice.

I was stoked to turn this over and see the New Britain logo staring back at me at the flea this morning. You guys have seen my hammer drawer. There aren't many brands I don't have. This is the first NB hammer I have ever seen in the wild. H-8-1 is size of the head in ounces (8). Weighs 11.7 ozs. with handle. Prominent concentric circles from the machining is very unusual in my experience.
Lugz, I stumbled onto this NB hammer-head (sans handle). It's an H-48-1, and in surprisingly good shape. At first I thought it was a "40" but it's definitely a 48. It's 6" long.

On the hunt this morning, dodging the SoCal rain, this caught my eye. All the pieces are marked made in USA. Turns out it’s a mostly complete New Britain set including the infamous knurled socket.IMG_3325.jpgIMG_3326.jpgIMG_3332.jpg

Good evening. Looks like you found the 1938 #1219. I have the #1119 which has the deeper machinist 1/2" drive sockets. My set is completely missing the 1/4" drive upper part sockets. Any way you could take a picture with your 1/4 sockets out of the metal case? Most specifically the 1-4 socket. Thanks also for including the pic of the knurled socket as the No 38 catalog doesn't show what that looks like.

I just recently acquired this early New Britain socket set. The metal box is in good shape & the set seems to be complete. All the sockets & tools are stamped Made In USA. I believe this is the earliest NB ratchet. The 1 or 2 socket sets before this one was a small hex set. This set is early (pre 1938) because the t-handle is female. I noticed on the inside of the box lid below the logo is the socket set number 522F. I seen that AA lists a 536W socket set on their website. Completely different set than mine. I've not done an extensive search yet, but so far I can't find any information on the no. 522 set online?? Anyone know anything about this set?

Yes, your link is to the first ever NB ratchet. I mentioned the previous ones before mine were hex. I wasn't very clear 😊 Mine, I'm guessing, is the first square drive (non-hex) ratchet & socket set by NB.

This may be a stupid reply but did you check the ITCL?

I searched NB no. 522 socket set on ITCL & there was nothing. I might have to try & look through old NB catalogs to see if I can find the no. 522 set. But so far, not finding anything. Not even on Google Books.

Anyone have an online resource for None Better Tool catalogs pre 1938? The '38 catalog socket set numbers are higher than the no. 522 I'm looking for.

I did find this article on Google Books. It's the only thing I've found, but it only shows a couple of sentences when you click on it. Any Google Books pros out there that would know how to open the whole article? The main description sounds interesting just can't bring it up.

I've had this little New Britain 1/4" set for years. I seen one on eBay for $495! Am I missing something here? Is this a rare set or maybe the person is asking for an unreasonable price?

The new britain versions of most craftsman sets usually go for quite a bit less.
^ This.

My hunch is the seller is conflating the sets they made for Sears branded Craftsman with the in-house sets. Other than the branding, they are identical. But the branding is everything.

You guys can probably help me with another one. I have another 1/4 set. Years ago when I got this it had a Craftsman BE, a Chromium Vanadium & a little Armstrong 1/4 ratchet. The sockets are only marked with size & the knurling. I've always wondered which one went with the sockets??

The sockets go with the Chromium Vanadium breaker. They are Indestro made.
-Don
Thanks Don. Your right. These sockets look just like the larger Indestro sockets I see on AA. Unless I'm missing it, they don't show any 1/4" sets though.

I usually never take good patina off tools, but some of these sockets were so bad you couldn't even read the size. So I ended up cleaning everything.

Plucked this handful out of a bucket of old sockets yesterday. I have an early None Better logo CHROME VANADIUM C-series socket set, in box, shown upthread a few times, and they are in much better condition that these examples, but they're too uncommon to leave behind and someone may need them.
