Hello, i recently picked up this old yost vise to clean up and use. I was wondering if anyone happens to know the age range of this vise as I can't find and info on it.
Is there a particular way date these vises or is there only guesses?I'm guessing aprox 1950 - 1968
Yost moved from Meadville to Muskegon, MI in 1968.
I previously sold castings to Yost in Holland, MI
Most things we are doing guesses on. Some more educated than others. Not every maker was as nice to collectors as Wilton and Snap-on, putting a date code on most things they made. Most other things, like Stanley plane timelines, were constructed much later, by interested collectors poking thru all known catalogs, and detailing the descriptions. Is there a particular way date these vises or is there only guesses?
I would try but I don't have the money nor the time unfortunately nor do I have the resourcesMost things we are doing guesses on. Some more educated than others. Currently, we don’t have enough Yost literature, or enough interested collectors, who are interested enough to put in the effort. So we guess, based on manufacturing locations, catalog descriptions, trade literature announcing new features, etc.
Other things, like the Workmate type study, was initially put together by a bunch of guys, sharing their collections. And it sorta died their, until @wolfcj really put his head down, dug into the data, and figured out the code to say, down to the week, when one was made.
