Maybe these are chrome?
Maybe. With the 'Motor Spec' logo, the K-1x series were Nickel-Chromium, natural steel finish (the set I am trying to build), and the K-2x series were nickel plated. I'm curious enough to want to check the cats later if only because I find it interesting that they made what appears to be the same pliers as the Motor Specs with simply a different logo and perhaps a different finish or composition.

Tally up another you **** for cmmcuist1! What a haul!

Got out for a bit today, found some sockets with potential on OfferUp and decided to make the drive. After I picked those up I figured I'd might as well hit a few other sales in the area. 5 hours later I finally made it home :ROFLMAO:

This pic is from last weekend, I ran back to sale I'd been at the day before looking for some New Britain sockets that I left behind the previous day. Didn't find the sockets to fill out the partial sets but can't complain too much about this lot for $7.

Most of it is New Britain with a bit of SK Wayne thrown in, including my first SK Wayne screwdriver if I remember correctly.

IMG_5271.jpg

This batch came from a garage sale, I believe I paid 50 cents a piece for these. I wish the Snap on drivers weren't so badly abused, the long slotted head looks like it was ground and one of the phillips is bent. The little adjustable is a Blue Point and there's a few pieces of SK in there also. My favorite piece is probably the Bonaloy DBE.
IMG_5281.jpg

Here's the batch of sockets I picked up on OfferUp, $20 for the next two pics: Most of a 1/2" Proto impact set, a few Proto deep impacts, some 1" to 3/4" adaptors, and a few more 3/4" sockets including a couple Snap on, one Wright, and a Walden.

IMG_5278.jpg

The rest of the sockets, these are all a mishmash of USA brands, there was a bunch of foreign stuff in there but I pulled it out for the pic. The two Long C female rats are the primary reason I drove down to pick this stuff up in the first place.
IMG_5279.jpg

Finally, last sale of the day was a private estate sale and the garage had been ransacked pretty good. I was surprised to find the SK metric socket tray laying on the floor and even more surprised to find all the missing pieces in a random 5 gallon bucket! The speeder is a Husky, the 3/8" breaker is Wright, and finally a complete Penncraft 3/8-1/4" socket set. The box is pretty badly corroded unfortunately so by the time I get done cleaning it I doubt there will be much paint left. No idea how the little guarantee paper survived! Paid $10 for this batch.

Picked up this cute little anvil $49. Anyone have any idea what it is or who made it? I don't see any markings

Lined up a few options for picking, but they canceled on us. Called up an old farm girl who was cleaning out her brothers place after he had passed away. Outbuildings and sheds were already cleaned out due to a previous auction, so not much of my normal tools. She was a tough old bird but needed some help airing up her atv and carrying boxes. Won't bore you with the all details but this was one of the weirdest picks in a while. Hauled out boxes and boxes of vintage clothes, pyrex, fireking, and local promotional items. Most items were still new in the box. There were numerous kitchen sets that were still in there original boxes as well as new Samsonite luggage from the 80s still in their shipping box. Never seen so much original packaging. Found a couple of cases that looked like they were for instruments or sales samples, but they were filled with old fireworks!!! No idea how old they are but definitely more than 30 years. Pickup truck was packed to the top. IMG_9331.JPG

Here are some items that you guys might be interested in. Got these for free for hauling boxes and the many trips up/down stairs.

Ace Rotary Tool 200 accessory set
Unopened new stainless steel bowls
3/4" x 16" spade bit
Misc 1/4" sockets, some Craftsman
New drill bit index and metal bits
Small drill bit index and like new bits
1974 and 1977 matching sets of plates
Ford 900 toy in box
Misc Oil cans
Mint Co-op Household Oiler for the collection
EverReady Household Oiler for the collection

IMG_9332.JPG

Final piece was this novelty Fanny-Whacker. Never seen one like it before and this will be a great gag gift later. Thought the GJ might get a kick out of it.

My online fora vocabulary is failing me. I know there's a word for placing a glaringly eyepopping item in a photo or for describing the contents of a photo without mentioning the glaringly eyepopping item - such as that late 40's Chrysler 251 flathead 6 cylinder head!, but I can't quite come up with it. :)

Hilarious!

Apologies in advance to those who have heard me tell this story before. When I was a kid, we had a similar paddle hanging from a nail buried in the corner of the frame of a blackboard mounted on a wall in the kitchen near the phone, which was also hanging on the wall. It was for messages, reminders, etc. The paddle was much thicker, though, and not just a funny prop. But my dad, an artist, and a joker, had some similar fun with it. He had painted a boy (there were five of us!) with his pants around his ankles, bent over, looking back between his legs, with a red face to match a red a&&. The inscription read, "BOARD OF EDUCATION."

Can you just imagine? Today you'd have Youth Services making a visit.

BOARD OF EDUCATION

Some of the teachers had that in school; the coaches in Jr high had one specially made in wood shop maybe 18" long, 4-5 wide and "drilled with holes to reduce wind resistance"...

My mom instituted using a paddle ball game paddle after the broke a blood vessel in her hand spanking us. - you know, wooden paddle, rubber ball, and an elastic string connecting them? She must have finally tossed it, I don't recall seeing it when we cleaned her house out. She kept handy in the kitchen pantry...

1710087094280.png

My dad used his had generally, but also this old school western belt, decorated with metal and holding plastic "Jewels" for spanking when he was serious about it. He turned it inside out, so only he flat side was used, but we didn't know that. :see: the ultimate terror! :shocking:

Funny story about my brother doing something dad didn't like, and him taking a swat at my brother's ****. My brother ducked his hips forward and dad missed. My brother, the baseball geek, called "strike one!" My dad laughed so hard he dropped the punishment.

A few auction scores that arrived this week. 2 pairs of Quickset calipers / dividers, 18" and 24", from Reiner & Campbell. These are patent 1731954, from Emil Tjurnlund. As noted here, they don't have the microadjust, but do have some seriously beefy pins, about 1/4" diameter. IMO, I don't think they would work well below about 3", or above 20", because the pins may not stick. The pins are threaded in, and will be pulled out for a quick touch up on a sander, to get a sharper tip.
Also in the lot was a 12" pair of Unmarked outside calipers, and a 10" pair of Union Tool Co inside calipers.

Clever.
And Brock has been doing that at least a year.
Yep. He's not the only one. (Guilty as charged on occasion! ✋) But there really is a word for it among the younger social media set that I am blanking on. Not ghosting and not photobombing. It'll come to me. More likely someone else fresher of mind first.

No pics this time but late yesterday an ad popped up on Facebook Marketplace and I was able to grab an SAE set of Craftsman full polish wrenches in the 45000 series ,which is Armstrong/Danaher made, and a nearly complete set of metric that may/may not be USA, The pics on my phone were horrible and I’m out of town all week and the wrenches are safely in my truck at home.

Michigan And Florida too!
Couple pics from today’s cleanup on the “farm”. Came out of a shed that is now in pieces on a trailer headed for the dump. These will go in the barn for future projects. All of the tiller attachments were found and a rotary sicle attachment.

You really need to start a Rainemans Garage Sale Ranch in the Garage Gallery.

Every pic you post looks intriguing!

OK a late Sunday sale I nearly missed -nothing this AM, but I needed to go to the PO, so I re-checked. It claimed tools, and some were right up my alley!

I started with Wood Chisels and the wood handled drivers. Not sure of branding on the chisels, the two larger drivers are Stanley and add to similar I have. the smaller drivers are unmarked for brand. so are the steel chisel and punch. The nibbler is an Adel Tool Company, and I have a couple now, so now I can have them where I'm likely to need them instead of chasing. The "penlight" is a Quantum USB rechargeable, claimed 5-1/2 hour use time, and has Pen light, Low work light, bright work-light, and Black light modes. Not sure why the average Joe needs a mini black light, but OK, If i'm ever following a blood trail after dark...

Quantum-Stanley-unkn-Adel-TC.jpg

Vaco Plierench, Indestro 1/2" ratchet (I like this handle style) 2 plastic face hammers -one needing new caps which I have; Crestalloy Nippers, jaws are shot, more on that later; Blue Point 4" adjustable, small Cincinnati C clamp, and a small Barcalo 1/4 - 5/16ths DOE:

co-Indest-PF-hammers-Crestal-Bl-Point-cinc-Barcalo.jpg

The Nippers jaws - Why buy junk tools? to make specialty tools. with some angle iron welded into the jaws (after some grinding) they make great sheet metal tongs, so I'll make a third set, with specialized jaws. my others are 2" and 4" wide.

Crestalloy-front.jpg

The Vacos need some cleanup but they are very powerful grippers; and how many tools will open this wide and still be parallel? That's a full 3" wide!

VACO.jpg

And mostly consumables - Brass Grommets (and the tools -these are tiny so can go in a camp setup), small CO2, a NOS brass stopcock - US made - 3 new Vermont American bits (consumable if only from losing them...), A coke bottle opener (angle all wrong, see Pic 2) a 1/4" stereo jack cataleptic; and lastly, a NOS Ford starter solenoid - I know exactly where his one is going - into my T-van for the planned second battery, and used to jump myself with a switch if needed.:

Coke-1-4-Ford-Gromets-Vmt-Stop-****-CO2.jpg

I had to shoot this upside down, and rotate the pic to get the shot angle:

I've been wanting a metal lathe for a long time. A buddy called and told me he'd found a guy who was selling everything out of his late FIL's garage. It was about 2 1/2 hours away.
Long story slightly shorter, I bought a Sheldon lathe, 13 by 36, I believe. It has a quick change tool post with several tool holders, tailstock live center and chuck and a steady rest. Also included was the 3 phase converter. $250 total...

@Outlaw, Those Vaco pliers are actually Eiffel Plierench. More jaws were made and should fit, but there were two styles of jaw mountings, discussed on the Eiffel thread.
And @i7083, you **** for that lathe deal.

Vaco acquired the rights to the name many years later
Lugz is right Jim, I have three pair of Eiffel Plierench, and this is my second pair of VACO made Plierench.

Someday I hope to find, from either era, a full set with all the jaws.

But today is not that day!

Nice finds guys.

Brockmub- I like the Wear Ever salesman’s? Trunk. I’ve seen a number of their cookware pieces in my travels.

Picked this up from a second hand store today. Craftsman 5796-7 7” needle nose pliers. If Alloy Artifacts is correct, this handle pattern and part number configuration would place it early 1930’s. Pre-long C logo.

It was pretty greasy and rusty. Couldn’t see the markings at all. I got it looking a little better with some elbow grease.

Any thoughts on maker?

From the story I got, it was the man’s father. The couple running the sale actually lived closer to Galveston. The father passed, and they were sorting out his estate. I first saw just the plastic case that was clearly marked Snap On. The guy had to tell my myopic *** that, “those other three metal cases have Snap On in them as well.”

Fortunately, I was the first one on the scene. I basically ran to my truck with those pieces and went back for the fishing poles and other items. I’m still sorting through everything. There is a lot to go through. Almost all 1/4” drive. Everything in pretty good condition. There are five ratchets, several sets of sockets, Allen sockets, screwdriver sockets, two sets of universal sockets…

Not likely to ever hit one like that again.
