Going peg board, mainly hand tools from tool chest. Any ideas on sturdy bracket pieces? Thanks

Not sure what you mean by bracket pieces. I use several things from Triton Products to organize my pegboard. Their hooks are the best, they will not come out when you don’t want them to. You can get them from Amazon and a few other places.

I was thinking this would be a thread full of musings on pegboard mishaps and mistakes, not a call for accessories. :)

What sort of brackets are you looking for? What ones are you unhappy with?

I use something called peg locks on all my peg board hooks.

They are small little bracket things that lock each peg board hook into the peg board. It is hard to describe, so here are two pictures of what they are. The first picture is the pack of 100 I get from Amazon. The second picture is a generic shot of a peg board hook with one of the locks on it.

I use them on every peg board I have (garage, basement, shed, closets) and they keep the peg board hooks from coming out when you remove your tools or other items you have stored on the hooks.

Thanks c j , locks sound good and I'll look up Triton. Stand corrected hooks = brackets now and just tired of searching for that one tool that's under my nose. Peg board seems like a neat and cleanway to try. Especially if it holds up?

I use those too. I don't use them on every hook but, yeah, they work really well.

Ohhhhh that's how those are used. Thanks for the pictures!

Those Triton Durahooks look like the bee's knees! I wish they were around back when I was implementing shadow boards for all the tools on an assembly line during my first internship. I ended up using small zip ties to hold the hooks in place because those push-in clips kept working their way loose. Zip ties only make sense if you have access to the backside of the board and you don't intended to reorganize very often (which was my case).

I like the idea of a pegboard system for frequently used tools. When I was still renting, I setup a small workshop area in the basement using pegboard, but was quickly reminded how much I didn't like it, even when I made sure to get the correct diameter hooks for the pegboard I was using. If there is a hook that will actually stay in place once installed, I might have to give pegboard a second chance.

First recommendation, buy 1/4" peg board not the cheaper 1/8" ****.

Secondly, buy decent quality hooks and such, ones that are actually matched to the size of the holes. Possibly try to find used commercial pieces.

1/4" pegboard is definetly hte way to go. It will eliminate lots of tear-outs and allow for more weight on the hooks. I can hang 6' wooden step ladder off of 2 long hooks w/o issue.

I bought hardware from mcmaster (years ago) and has served me well. These were the type that interlocked to the pegboard and prevented the hooks from falling off. IIRC, each had a 1/4-20 nut to accomplish the locking action between the 2-piece assemblies.

I helped clean out a 30-year-abandoned commercial workshop and got 10 gallons of old school hooks and loops. Each hook fits tightly in the holes and the anti-rotation tab leaves a square hole when removed. If I didn’t have these good hooks, I probably wouldn’t have so much stuff on pegboard.

This company has some nice stuff, I have a bunch of their shelf brackets and other items. Do a search for pegboard.

Edit; I also have some Durahooks which are really nice.

I second the use of peg locks for the single stem peg hooks.

Anywhere you want to mount some non-hooks to your pegboard, or a single screw to hang something with a keyhole, use a 1/4" plastic drywall anchor.

Great imformation, appreciated. Haven't had much time this week to look at all of the peg board products yet, way more than I would ever of thought. Looking at the products that I'll get a long life out of. Thanks

Another vote for Triton Durahooks, best I've used. Tossed every old hook I had and converted to these. I keep a drawer of different types and lengths to add or rearrange my pegboard occasionally.
