Back in July 2020, I was seeking information for rebuilding a Craftsman Emerson Gen4 113 15.5” Drill Press. I quickly found FrankLee’s Classic Craftsman Drill Press and Garage Journal. This discovery led to my desire to acquire one of these Classic Craftsman Drill Presses and I have now rebuilt 7 of them and still own 4 of them.

Somewhere along the line I discovered the King Seeley develop an entire line of pedestal tool stands for their incredible cast iron power tools. I recall seeing an advertisement illustration of a workshop with these tools and I have been unable to find the full color image ever since. Here is a poor quality black and white copy of the illustration.

It quickly became my intention to collect most of these power tools but in Georgia, finding these tools with pedestals is very difficult. Regardless, to date I have collected a lot of them and over the weekend I picked up this 3-wheel band saw.

This band saw was sold by Craftsman between 1950 and 1956 under this mode number.

I paid $100.00 for this band saw and I was told the motor did not work. The motor on this saw is a General Electric ¼ HP 1725 RPM model 27468. I know nothing about this motor so if anyone can provide some information, it would be appreciated.

I really do not need another band saw but I do want to collect all the pedestal tools.

Anyway, I will be rebuilding this thing in the future.

BTW, I also saw a vary rare tool at an estate sale this weekend. This is the Corvel built Craftsman Power? Electric? Reciprocal? (It has had several names in the catalogs) Hack Saw. With band saws widely available, I am not sure why this thing was built but it is very cool. The sale wanted 130.00 for it and I honestly have no need of it, so I passed but it was very cool to see in person.

Hey! I got one of those old 3 wheel bandsaws too.
No pedestal though, didn't even know that it was missing.
It's mounted to a board and the motor sits on the board.
Haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet.
How does yours do at cutting?

And these are the pedestal tools I am still working on:

Craftsman 103.20660 6” Jointer

Craftsman wood lathe. This one has a 113.23802C lathe on it but I will be replacing the lathe with a 100 series once I locate one.

Craftsman 103.20720 80 series 18” Jig Saw

And then this 103.24300 3-wheel Band Saw

Of course these do not include the 4 Drill Presses I have rebuilt and keep in my shop.

Moldyjim, the pedestal stand was an optional item and hard to find where I live but you may more available to you wherever you live. As for how this saw performs, I honestly do not know, I just got it and I have not done anything with it yet. However, my 12” 2-wheel band saw cuts like a dream. I converted it for metal cutting by adding a reduction worm gear and metal cutting blade and love it.

I have been hunting for a 12" 2-wheel band saw for a rebuild series of videos but nothing has popped up that was reasonably priced or had the pedestal base. I really don't want to rebuild one without the pedestal. I am sure one will come up sometime this year.

Your work is AMAZING! Well done!

I have a 103.24300 that I'm going to do a freshen up on. I'm worried about replacing the tires. Did you change yours? I've heard it was difficult. I'm also on the hunt for a similar 2 wheel saw. I used my 3 wheel a bunch and I had a lot of trouble keeping the blade from jumping.

The tires are not a big problem. I have replaced mine on the 3 wheel and my 2 wheel. I used the blue max set from ebay on the 3 wheel and found them to be outstanding. Check my YT channel for the series on the 3 wheel rebuild. I show the process for the tires in one of the videos. For a 2 wheel BS the process is the same. The key is to soak the wheel in hot water then mount them.

Hi there, just joined the Garage Journal. I have one of these bandsaws 103.24300 and would like to built a stand for it. It came mounted on to a table. Have you ever built one?

I just took possession of my grandfather's 103.24300 bandsaw. It was mounted on a huge wood and metal stand that I didn't keep. Were these originally to be mounted on a pedestal or an open metal frame table?

Both stands were available during the time when this bandsaw was produced.

Yep, both stands were available for most wood working tools. I have seen a big variety of mounting these tools but probably the most common was to make a wood stand. I assume most people figured why buy a stand when you could make one for fairly cheap and make it fit your work space and needs.

Next question .. cleaning is well underway. The original color is blue-gray. There doesn't seem to be anyone making anything close to this color any more. I've been looking all over for a gray that has some blueish tint. Any suggestions? I can't believe no one makes a blue-gray and I don't want to get too crazy with custom stuff.

Took some better shots of mine today. You can really see the blue/gray hue. I love this saw. Mine was missing the guard, so I bent one up… close, but I’m going to make another. This has the original table, and a very period motor. I’ve been running a 1/2” sst blade I welded up on our Do-All at work. No issues at all. My Pop’s cousin bought this new, I got it from him over 30 years ago..
