A friend of mine got some stuff from an old building that will be demolished. He brought this by and gave it to me. I see some punches, a couple scribes, a Machine Shop book from 1941, some other doo-dads that I don't know the purpose of, a 1" mic, an angle gauge, a tap handle, couple ball pein hammers, a 1x.5x.25 steel block right by the doo-dads, a really cool handmade aluminum feeler gauge up to 1/4", some handmade drill tool maybe for cleaning threads?, an empty drill bit case, some nice rulers, a couple more doo-dads in the long drawer with the small square, and an old Kennedy box that I have absolutey no use for.

In the second picture I believe you’ve circled a fine adjustable trammel point on the right and a fixed point in the left circle.
These are used as a pair and slide along a bar to measure between two points or layout a circle or arc.

the books look pretty cool. I wonder if @cvairwerks knows anything about Convair?

The Convair books are general reference handbooks for workers in the shop. They include general information on materials and procedures that apply to aircraft assembly procedures.

The 5 cylinders look to be 1/4-28 to standard drill chuck adapters. Convair San Deigo was a sister operation to Fort Worth. They existed for many years before we did. Fort Worth came to be in 1941, long before Pearl Harbor.

As for the first picture circled pins. Worked in a shop with tooling bars, transit and theodolites. The stepped pins were homemade to help with setups of various tooling sometimes on the tooling dock, sometimes on the build plate. The pins were usually in some geometric relationship to .125" measurement. A lot of tooling was built for and around .250 pins and .500 tool balls, such as 1-2-3 blocks made to .875-1.875-2.875, and/or .750-1.750-2.750. a quick check of diameter would indicate if these were for that purpose. Seeing the IAM logo reinforces my thoughts.

I was wondering if the stepped pins were maybe some sort of checking device. The one aircraft book has a whole section on proper riveting. Maybe a hole size and depth tool before installing an aircraft rivet?

Yes. Especially for home shop machinists with older vintage machines.
I referred to an old South Bend reprint many times when I had my 1940’s vintage Logan lathe
