Tire wobble visible on wheel balancer common?

I've got a spin balancer and balance maybe 4 sets a year.

What i've noticed is that near every set I've balanced, if you look at the very top straight on, you can see a very slight hop and/or side to side movement to the tire when its spinning.

The rims are spinning straight, collet is correct, pin plates are used, and they repeatedly balance to 0 (completely remove assembly, remount and comes out to 0 again).

Not to concerned, but it got me wondering from those that have balanced hundreds/thouands of wheels if its something they too have noticed?

In my experience that’s very common. Seldomly are tires perfectly round. The same is true for most wheels as well. Assuming these are new tires you are referring to, it can help minimize the wobble to stuff the maximum amount of air in the tires when mounting and then drop the air pressure down to 35 or whatever before you balance. This helps to insure that the bead is seated completely.

Yeah, they all move a little. Nothing to worry about unless you are getting a vibration.
I wish there was a set amount I could tell you that is good/no good, but it's like that old quote - I know it when I see it :)

That’s a good point. Also, I understand that it’s a small volume of tires being balanced but as long as there aren’t any complaints and/ or comebacks then it’s probably fine.

Yes new tires. Good point around filling to max and then releasing; might even be worth driving on them briefly and then rebalancing.

Since its for personal use, I can spend what would otherwise be an unreasonable amount of time fine tuning the balancing.
