Found an Oil leak on my F250. Oil feed line to the turbo leaked. Make a freaking mess. All the way down the back of the motor. Replaced Feed line as well as upper and lower fitting.

Started on the lift installation on my CX30. 1-1/2" front, 1" rear. Was a bit more of a pita than I anticipated, first front side took over 2 hours, other side was about 1 hour. Got the front and one side of the rear done. I was getting overly tired and since my Mrs was helping with the rear springs I decided it was best to wait for a fresh mind after work today before someone got hurt.

I finally had a need to set up the Alpha tig welder I bought last year. I googled some aluminum settings, sharpened a tungsten, and made my first ever aluminum welds. Also first time ever using a tig. I'll need more practice for sure. I felt like my practice welds on the aluminum plate were fairly presentable and I WELCOME ANY INPUT. Then I cleaned up a piece of cast aluminum.......must be pretty decent cast cause it welded up ok.........for a total newbie!

Solar installers showed up. The guys were great.

There was a lack of communication with the customer (me) and the design group. So my install proceeded but it now has to go back through permit. I told the pre-inspection person that I didn't want the batteries in the garage. Not to mention it wouldn't fit.
They submitted the plans with the all the equipment in the garage without discussion with me.

Once we decided on locations. There was a number miscommunications between Design and the installers.

The installers mounted the control box.

And a shutdown switch.

Then they found that they didn't need either one. Then installed this.

What the ....

The batteries were installed on the side of the house. They didn't have to remove these.

Conduit installed.

Panels installed.

The guys told me that it could be done in a day but my paperwork was really janky.

They will be back tomorrow to pull wires and finish up.
Not sure how they do it by you but when I got my solar installed I had 4 pages of engineer stamped drawings that listed pretty every part for the job that the installers followed to the T, no field deviations allowed. This was after the engineer and me sat down and discussed exactly what was needed and where I wanted it. Also permit was issued based on those drawings.

I had plans but I had no communication with the design group. No one came out to verify locations.
They moved the battery outside because there was no place in the garage to put it. They finished the install today but it has to go through the permitting process again.
This was badly handled.

I hope and am sure it will get worked out.

I was thrilled to see my new carpet came in and it looks great!!!!
20240401_083716-jpg.2086900

then....I realized I have to install it...EEEEK! So I pulled the seats, matts and console.....
20240401_094034.jpg
These S197 Mustangs are pretty well engineered and easy to disassembled. Except when they made the locking clip for the electrical connector upside down....those RAT BAS*A#Ds!!!!
20240401_094044.jpg
I found enough change between the console and trim to buy a nice lunch...back in 2019....today, it barely buys cat food. I am looking at all the orange paint peeking out through those holes. I have to cut out all these holes "PERFECTLY" without any mistakes!!!! I will have only one shot at this! GULP!!!!
20240401_094113.jpg
Got the old carpet out and this old man is hurting as I have arthritis and pains I never had 5 years ago....don't get old folks!!! I need a nap!
20240401_101734.jpg
Car doesn't have a speck of body rust...never seen winter street salt. That's saying something for a 17+ year old, 108,000 mile upper Midwest convertible! My only new car I ever owned. Now to cut out all the holes in the new carpet and put the carpet in...UG! They should say on the box, "DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!" *SIGH* Stay tuned!

More van work.... roof is set and all screwed down. About 60 screws total.

20240321_101513.jpg

This is a 3rd gen pop top and I'm putting it on a 4th gen.
Third gen has raised roof ribs, and 4th gen has recessed ribs. They happen to have the exact same spacing...

18822-albums1662-picture48995.jpg

So I have the gaps to deal with. The corners are even worse, the frame of the roof lines up perfectly with the depression of the roof.

18822-albums1662-picture48996.jpg

The wife and I carved up these little filler blocks from closed cell foam.

18822-albums1662-picture48992.jpg

They fit OK...

18822-albums1662-picture48993.jpg

close enough to cover with sealant anyways....

Thats it for today, but the roof install is now complete. I still have things to do to the roof, but it's mostly driveable at this point.

I think next is floor.

Made some stout ramps for the F350 from 2x12's

Rick, I ran into a slight problem with my 2x12 ramp. It would slide when the tire touched it. I put a couple of pieces of 1/4" plywood on the bottom that extend out far enough for the tire to hit. The ramp doesn't slide and a hole in the plywood makes a nice handle for carrying it,

Noted. I'll add that mod to mine. Pretty sure I can employ parts of two off cuts I have left over from the this weeks F350 plywood project.

Finished up the lift kit install on the CX30. Only bled me a little bit. Definitely have another round of heat gun clearance work to do. Came out to be right at 1-1/2".

I'm hoping to do more in the garage today than I did yesterday.

Yesterday I intended to finish up work on a car I'm working on. At 6:30 am I ordered parts and fluids from Napa online where they were supposed to be ready at the store within 30 minutes and then proceeded to finish prepping to use everything once they became available.

I finally get a text at 12:30 that my order is ready. I head to the store only to find that only part of the order was ready and that "maybe" the rest will be there tomorrow (today) after 9:30am. WTF? I get home and receive an email saying my order is ready - NOPE.

Dang inconvenient that they advertised 30 minutes, delay most of the day, send faulty status updates, and then cause me to make unnecessary trips to learn that they are sending bogus status updates. Hopefully I'll get the parts today and with any luck have time to finish today.

My NAPA is suffering severely from an employee shortage. Yesterday I watched another customer going through the same kind of thing as you. They used to be extremely reliable, with awesome customer service.

Might have something to do with the fact that management still thinks $9 an hour is appropriate starting pay.

I've been burned by this a couple times and have given up trusting parts store automatic updates. I've learned to follow up their texts and emails with phone calls, and even then I quiz them with a hot poker. I won't disable a vehicle until all the parts are on the bench.

I use the OTC #- 6502 18 pc master brake flaring tool. I do the first half of the double flare & it makes a nice bubble so the hose & clamp can't slip off the metal line.
I have this one

And this one I’m pretty sure

Don’t remember which without digging it out and looking

I bought one and used it and then had another situation where I had to do one on the car and had to buy the different one that would do it on the car in a tight spot

Way cheaper than paying to have the car towed to a shop and paying someone else to make a new line .

I use em a lot more for making the little bulges on fuel lines and trans cooler lines etc than for brake lines.

The new nicop line is very easy to work with .
And I will be making more I’m sure , my expedition sat next to the ocean for 15 years , and rust in weird places where the salt air settled on the car and then the morning dew washed it down to the lowest place on the car , which so far has taken out a power steering line and a brake line and the cowl where the hood hinges bolt to .

We had one open here & close within a few months. The only time I went in there I was told "they don't make copper washers" when I needed a few for a project...

I've been going to this one for nearly 25 years because they've always been good. I'll give them some time to work things out.

Went through my parts-unit pile to find a fuse holder for an old power supply.

Contemplating moving is prodding me along to button up these projects I have had sitting around for a while. Get this **** sold, and get it outta here so I don't have to move it, lol.

Absolutely. It really ***** to have to sell or give away stuff that you just moved. All that wasted effort.

I love working with the Nicop line. Besides the fuel lines on my Mustang, I made several brake lines on my old 2000 Ranger that I had when I lived in NJ where they love to cover the roads with salt in the Wintertime.

There's a few around town. The big one used to be an independent parts shop that was used by just about everyone in town for at least 30 years. Then it became a NAPA & the staff stayed on. It's still the go-to for people who fix/maintain their own stuff.

Sanding and more sanding. Discovered I should have put masking tape down to keep glue drops from landing on the resin. I had to sand the drops off. I still have some more sanding to do before I can glass the coaming.

I also noticed that I may need to coat some of the boat in thinned resin. It's getting thin in some spots where I had to sand the glue drips.
