Modified a set of Harley handle bars...

The 1st item to get attention on my Low-Buck '87 FLH project are the handlebars. For me, the stock bars are not comfortable. They're a bit short and have way too much pull back (about 40 degrees). I prefer more of a 'knuckles to the wind' hand position. On my metric cruiser I have a set of Road Glide bars and they're comfortable. Using the Road Glide bars on this Ultra won't work because the verticals are not wide enough and would obscure the gauges. Rather than roll the dice on an online purchase without knowing I'd be getting bars that fit like I want, I opted to just modify the stock bars.

I started by cutting the bars apart so to get an accurate ID, then lathe machined some 1" diameter solid steel to make a pair of slugs to fit. The slugs are 4" overall length with 1.25" on each end turned down to fit inside the handlebars. This leaves material in the middle for a 1.5" rise.

The road glide bar hand grip is about 20 degrees back, so I made a wedge to hold that angle and used it to weld the stock bars back together. Now I've got a set of bars that are the correct width, the preferred wrist angle and a little taller. The modified bars will eventually get black powdercoat.

Finally found a use for the 11/32” wrench!! IMG_3663.jpeg

Did a lot of this yesterday actually.

I put some waterbased degreaser in the handikleen the other day ago (months ago) which helped break down the built up dried up sludge from sitting for 10+ years.

Dunno if there’s supposed to be a gasket here IMG_3664.jpeg

But I made one. I know it’s a friction surface. But flow was poor, and it seemed like the liquid was being pumped up the shaft instead of up the hose. After I made the gasket, flow improved 100% IMG_3666.jpeg

Then I scooped and scrubbed all the gunk out. That was yesterday.

So today I got some parts wash cleaner at tractor supply. IMG_3672.jpeg

The PSC 1000 couple with this flow through brush should get some work done! IMG_3641.jpeg

Also brought home anothe pile of junk. IMG_3671.jpeg

My brother came over and we buttoned up another mower. I’m time constrained, as my ex girlfriend is having neighbor/code enforcement issues, so I’m splitting my time between my stuff and hers.

No. Time. For. Nothin!

It seems to be exceedingly generous to be helping your ex-girlfriend. Have you not got enough troubles of your own?;)

Me NOT helping her this past season is what helped lead up to the code issues.

I would drive home past her house (not intentionally, just it was on the way home if I went through town for groceries, supplies, etc). If I saw the yard gettin shaggy/overgrown, I’d bring my riding mower and buzz it down.

I got busy, sidetracked, and worked out of a different city and stopped swinging by.

I was the ******* in the situation. She was probably the best thing to happen to me in my life that I fucked up beyond salvage.

Least I can do is help. I mean, she absolutely hate my ***, and reached out for help. I am an *******, but I know I did her wrong. I want to help in any way possible. I don’t mind it. She needs the help. And I’m a glutton for punishment. Perfect match?

Put my new Eley rose reel together. Pretty nice. I'm am sure no other hose reel is packaged so well. Got my 100' flexilla hose on it, reel seems to work great. So I washed my truck. But at 50° it was cold on the hands! Did get to go through all of my cleaning stuff to see what I have. Get ready for spring.

Did some yard work, cleaned up sticks on the ground, fertilized front yard, some grass seed in the back yard.

I don’t know how you made the tubes glow in different colors within the same tube, or if it’s even done on purpose, but its pretty damn cool looking.

You make it sound like she‘s deserving of your help, so good on ya for that. And the fact that you’re helping a cancer patient is also commendable.

Disassembled the old compressor pump /base /piping. Cleaned the floor under the grinder bench… 34 years of grime, but the only way to get to it was to pull apart the (former) compressor pump. Harvested the old piping components to be cleaned for re-use, well at least the brass and stainless fittings - rusty black iron fittings got recycled unless they were special.

Put stuff away and somewhere along the way I strained my Latissimus. That ended my garage time, which I traded for an ice pack and the couch. The hell of it is, I don’t recall anything that I could have done to jack myself up like that. Oh well, I’ve had worse, just a slight delay.

Van floor...
Floor has some bowing to it between the supports.

Used a jack and got alot of them out, but there were a lot above the spare crossmember that I didn't deal with. I'll probably put some foam shims in the low spots... I have some leftover from the roof shims.
As weak as the floor is, especially after it's compromised, a prybar might do the trick.

Cut some templates and foam today, shims and plywood tomorrow.

It's on purpose, and very simple. There are automatic color changing LEDs buried in each fitting, one at each end of every light guide. Due to the tiny differences in the microcontrollers buried in each LED, they change colors at a slightly different rate. After less than a minute, the colors are out of sync, and you get the effect you see.

That metal is stretched, without a brace or some heat/cold treating, it’s probably going to be pretty easy to dent again.

Turning the garage over from winter to summer. Got the snowblower drained of gas and run dry. It’ll get moved to the shed eventually. Got the car moved, and the workbenches back in their summer locations. More stuff put away from the living room project. Starting to clean up the yard. Got my truck turned around (no brakes) and backed up to the garage so I can fix the brakes on Minday.

Investigated the free parts cleaner I got last fall. The cord has a nasty pinch by the plug. The motor will spin, but whatever it uses for bearings is shot. Tons of side to side play in the motor shaft. Plastic housing is litteraly falling apart, too. Gotta decide if I’m keeping and fixing this, or passing it along to someone who needs it.

Snowed in Southern California?
Snowed in the higher elevations in the San Francisco bay area as well. they said this rain was as cold as any in winter, we got hail at my house and we are a mile from the bay; 20 ft elevation.
I know that feeling. I could pile my tools by century, 18th, 19th, 20th, n 21st.

Mostly the same for 19th & 20th - probably the fewest in the 21st! :ROFLMAO:

I had to catch up most of a week as I fell off of notifications (again) and I've been busy with LR <<- >> FR move project prep all week when not working for a living, and the W/E before - After work Friday got some tools for the LR <<- >> FR move project and taught the youngest daughter how to setup Cat 5/6 RG45 cable ends up as we needed to terminate the ends for the new Internet lines for where the TV and gaming stuff is landing in the LR. She did well! Better still its all operational !

Today it was move my new easy chair & "office" setup to the family room. Had to be done in stages and the place is mostly still a wreck. A week from tomorrow more wreckage as a couch and two side chairs get tossed outside and new ones (powered recliners) replace for the LR and where the big TV landed.

My space so far - Light spot in the chair is just late afternoon sun spot - The blue pads are old towels so the laptop board doesn't damage the fabric, -I need to pad the board ends... Footstool also needs recovered and new padding. I'm reworking/positioning the side tables for a better work space now that I have more room - My inside workbench will also migrate in here soon. The Victrola is there until I get it sold. (I have 2)

Bought a 4x3ftx3/8in piece stall mat at TSC. It's going to get cut in two pieces of 2x3ft which will then be bonded to the piece of plywood (24x63in) I cut to fit the F350 5th wheel tailgate. The rubber side will be under the wood & sit against the tailgate.
Glue (Weldwood contact cement) will arrive tomorrow & the spar varnish for the upper surface of the plywood will be here on Monday. Three coats of spar varnish with 2 days between each coat means it will be finished next weekend.IMG_20240401_165623285.jpg

Won’t fit in the garage but I finally got the boom lift converted from the non working not repairable not replaceable computer , to analog , with switches and relays , complete and tested .

Everything works .
Just gotta get the spaghetti city cleaned up and organized .

3 voltage regulators , 8 relays , 4 switches and 21 buttons later , it’s operational .

Yup, it pushes around real easy.

I'm reinforcing it and spreading the load with 1" poly and 1/2" ply, and I'm only putting a very light load on it afterwords (limited foot traffic).

I hope it's OK. I think it will be fine.

Craftsman mower wouldn't start about 2 weeks ago. Kohler MV17, no spark from the ignition coil. Ordered a new one from Amazon. It was delayed due to USPS and Easter but, got it in and fired right up. The snowblower is still on and needed a hosing off. The only time I needed it this year was a sloppy, muddy mess. Cleaned and ready to swap on the mower deck.

Well since I tend only to surf the inter webs on the weekends in the morning when I get some time to enjoy the jacuzzi…time to play catch up. It was a somewhat productive week0E565059-A0FD-4907-86F6-1313C759568A.jpeg

since we don’t tend to get much rain over the course of the year, I felt rain barrel down spouts weren’t effective around the property and cut up three of the 5 down spouts to fully feed the rain barrels. Only 3 of the 8 are filling up with all the rain we have gotten this week. only due to I am waiting on brass spigots for the other barrels at two down spouts.

2FC67461-9A9B-4D75-A11D-37DE8B190411.jpeg

got tired of trying to sell off this 35” spare off my ‘01 Ram 2500 along with this aluminum rim I brought new for another truck project. Put two n two together to have a tire I dont mind kicking around!

dug into my sniper harness to clean up and route better with some lengthening, shortening and splicing together. waiting on a couple tools to eliminate the extra unnecessary wires at the weatherpack.

now to assemble a dresser and nightstand for my moms room At her new seniors home. Then back onto wiring.

started talks with the driveline shop for the Bronco’s HD driveshafts, now to wait on how much the damage to be which no doubt will result in go ahead and build them, I need them sooner than last minute!

Performed a little maintenance and adjustments on the 74 FLH Harley in prep for a ride tomorrow.
Got my CList HFreight motorcycle dolly that I got a good deal on under my bike. Now I can roll it around out of the way. Also cut off metal where fenders used to be attached to a friends used MC trailer he just bought. Used a cut off disc in a grinder, sanded and painted the spots....turned out good for such a **** trailer.
How's that bike dolly working with the big cruiser?

I recognize that under hood

Mines a 74 with the efi from a 91 mustang and a five speed from a 01 dodge Dakota , disc brakes from a 74 Blazer and seats from a Miata , seat belts from a Suzuki Samurai.

We put a sniper on our 65 falcon station wagon but it’s been a giant pain in the *** , wish we had just used the stock mustang efi .

Throw that pump in garbage. Buy a quality Little Giant pump. Been there done that and have way too much time trying to make that type pump work again and Again in my Horrible freight parts washer. I use solvent...

Finished up the Horrible freight welding cart and it's dedicated to Cheapest chinesium No- touch plasma and the AWD "used" 200A high frequency Tig welder I scored for $85. Yeah, spent more on consumables. Tig welder actually does work. Just something to learn on and upgrade someday if I get better and can justify something better.
Wheels upgraded on cart along with adding front handle and couple extra hooks.

20240405_193416.jpg

Did One pass in some 1/4in scrap before I make my first Tig attempt on the handle. Stacking some pennies, nickels and quarters. 😜
20240404_033633.jpg

More time the other day making the Old Hobart 135 110V Mig work again. Had too may things apart and not really sire what cure it.
Has to me over 25yrs old and the was making nasty, spattery black sooty welds like no gas but confirmed it had gas on 2 Regs. It really has seen little use over the years.
Lead apart, blew out and cleaned everything.
Wire drive seemed off at low speeds and real slow, didn't move at all till 20 on dial. Had apart free'd up and motor drive oiled up.
Heat dial real stiff, DeOxit cured that.
Swapped wire rolls...
Welp, it works again. 1/4in inside corner weld. Not clean enough but looking good-nuff to show it works again.

Nothing substantial today, but a small project to help Mrs M.

She has always washed and reused ziplock bags. In an effort to keep them off the dish rack, I drilled some holes and cut some dowels that I had. A few minutes in the garage, and here's a simple drying apparatus for her plastic bags.
