Installed a new coil in my girlfriend's Jetta to solve a misfire, then took it for a drive and discovered her front wheel bearings were both completely hashed, so I replaced both of those and swapped her winter tires for the all-seasons.

Put the vibro pen engraver to work on the coil:

And then a friend referred this guy to me, who galled up a stainless bolt in a dough extruder at his dumpling factory. Milled out the offending fastener and chased the hole with a spiral HSS tap, good as new:

Working on the "bar" area of my "garage" Bar area ceiling is pretty much finished. Also reminded myself again how much I hate sheetrock. Never have installed it 14 feet in the air but got it up and really smooth. Working on my budding-artist-daughter for a victorian-inspired mural but she is dragging her feet.

Working my way down to the middle of the room on the tin ceiling restoration.

The wood looks great in this area but it is not period correct and unfortunately will have to go.

Finally settled on a great historic green/blue that is pretty close to original

Scraped, reparied, primed with one coat so far.

Yesterday afternoon - cleaned up my mess from cutting and grinding panels for a storage area under the workbench previous day, pondered how to make the door and found some hinges for it, then in and out getting string trimmer and blower to clean up the yard a bit. Wasn't quite in the mood to make a new mess and finish the door for the workbench after attending a funeral that morning.

Is there a thread for this project?

Today involves mostly pottering to clean stuff up & put tools away after week of tinkering. Another ******** storm this weekend so staying home. Next project is gelcoat repair on the F350 as the last of the gubbins needed for that will be here today (mixing cups).

Was tempted to run a bead of seam sealer between the truck body & body kit this week, but can't commit in case it ends up looking like fried ***.

Not yet noon, but I moved everything of the oriental carpet in my new "office space" moved the carpet about 2 ft so its not partially under the workbench, and then moved everything back - still chaos, but making progress.

EDIT - Forgot to mention I placed my personal L-top with it's arm-to-arm "desk as if I were in the chair:

One of my favorite days of the year for some reason. Got all the summer outdoor power equipment ready for the season and prepped the winter ones for summer storage. Oil changes, greased, cleaned, etc. Sort of a ritual for me but I prefer not fighting with OPE, so far so good, everything fired up and runs like a champ.

Few other items not pictured. Snow blower is 13 years old and still starts first pull every time.

Swapped the blades out no the riding mower and greased the zerks. Checked the tire pressures and oil.
Oiled the air filter for the push mower, checked the blade and deck - looked good.
Mixed up some 2 stroke fuel, use standard 91 octane and Yamalube R at 40:1 (easy math). Cleaned the exhaust screen on the trimmer, blew out the air filter, swapped the fuel for fresh. Lawn should be dry enough after some lunch to get mowing. This will be the first full mow/trim of the season.

Been thinking for quite a while about adding a vise on the end of my woodworking bench to use as a tail vise along with bench dogs. I’m dealing with a specific space so the vise couldn’t be too large.

Grizzly just had a recent sale where I was able to get this 7” ShopFox vise for $60 with free shipping.
It fits in the space with 1/4” to spare.
Yes, unfortunately, Chinese.
I have to admit though it works smooth and has very little “slop” in it.
IMG_4324.jpeg

Lined it up with existing bench dog holes. Vise is held in place with help from my good friend “Jack”
IMG_4327.jpeg

The smaller vise was designed for a bit thinner bench top so I made a wooden cheek to bring the fixed jaw face up to just a hair below flush from the bench top surface.
IMG_4328.jpeg

Board clamped in place and test planed
IMG_4333.jpeg

Another minor issue of the vise being designed for a thinner bench is that the retractable metal dog in the moveable jaw barely catches the bottom edge of the board.
IMG_4335.jpeg

I had no 1/2” scrap to work with so I slightly cut down a piece of tie down track to make a new dog about 3/8” longer.
IMG_4336.jpeg

Quite pleased with everything. Still have to make a cheek for the moveable jaw and I can call this project done!

The Nachi bearings arrived this afternoon... Got them installed in my 62-110 Delta Doerr motor... Runs like new...
Changed the oil and filter in my JD after cutting the grass (just outside my garage)... That pneumatic Holt fluid extractor from Harbor Freight makes it easy...

Tuesday night in the garage was spent replacing the DS IWE and hub on my F150.

Today was a BIT different 😎. Listening to the Phils walk-off the Pirates while having a few beers and unboxing/assembling ALL our newly aquired baby stuff.

Side note, I hate hate hate styrofoam. More than mixing lb-ft and ft-lbs.

Thought I’d steal a muffler off a parts machine to replace the one on my Ariens.

No such match.

Wonder if I can weld this up? Probably.

Ordered one, but maybe tomorrow I’m gonna see about patching this one up.

I have better mowers at my disposal now, but I’m still partial to my Ariens. I think because it was one of my “first” few free mowers that I got to run and mow. I beat the piss out of it, and always patch it for “one more season” and it just keeps goin.

Not in garage, but spring opening for lake place. Turned on water to boathouse and primed irrigation system. Will test all zones tomorrow (ran out of sunlight). Emptied and refilled hot tub, and ordered replacement filter from Amazon. Got chipper shredder started and will attack a pile of fallen branches tomorrow.

Oh man, big day here. Spent the early part of the afternoon cleaning and moving things, prepped the truck for a maiden voyage after its winter work, and dropped it at the dealer to wrap up the things I don't want to do. Caught a ride back from a friend who I then pressed into service for the rest of the day. We dug out the Jeep, reinstalled the crossmember with the new transmission mount, and charged up the extra battery while grilling some burgers and putting away some beer. Then we fired her up and I drove her out of the garage for the first time in 3-4 years! Runs like I parked her yesterday. Once outside we let it idle for awhile and get up to temp, then moved more around the garage and shot the **** until grabbing some tacos and calling it a night. Hell of a day. Jeep went back in for the night, but is no longer off to the side in its tomb. The Toyota will go there next lol

Quick small project in the shop this morning: My wife's aunt has a really neat 3 tier serving tray that the bottom threaded puck popped loose. Just needed to be cleaned up and re-glued

Sanded the old glue off

Shot a few pins thru the bottom side and got it clamped while the glue set up

Reassembled for a pic, I'll make sure she waits a day to put in back so the glue can fully cure.

Failed to take into account the "Mushroom Factor" when I began sorting the shop for my new tablesaw. This is where I was on Friday night. New saw is a little lower, and a little wider, so the outfield island needed to be redone, which means my cabinets needed to be shifted across the aisle, where I needed to make a little more clearance.
